Twilight Sparkle
to put it in to perspective, the canucks that year scored 285 goals, and this year, this team will be no where close to that

kloubek
This is a spectacular feat. He did in 60 games too, which is 4 games faster than Bure hit 60. I think it is pretty clear his new record by the time he adds points from the remaining games wont be likely beaten for decades.
crazycry
we seriously hit the jackpot with EP...he transitioned into NHL very nicely. Keep it up!

It will still be a pretty modest rookie scoring record.
wildcam
With 9 games remaining and breaking record with 61 points now....Should be another 6-9 points left in EP -- should get 67-70 points Amazing only 20 years old...
fanfor42
Two years ago in 16/17 Auston Mathews scored 69 points in 82 games in his rookie season and the Eastern media went bananas. Petey has 61 points so far in 62 games and has a very good chance to score more points in his rookie season than Mathews - in 11 fewer games! Eastern media will no doubt give him even more coverage than they gave Mathews when Petey passes Auston! Lol. Ya right.

Goal scoring is more exciting than playmaking and so gets more hype. Petey had more hype when he was scoring like crazy and was on pace for over 40 goals for much of the year. Tiger-Hearted
3 hours ago, Kevin Biestra said: Bure AND HLINKA. Put some respeck on the name. Guy's a legend. Disagree. Hlinka was only here for 2 seasons. 60 points in 72 games for an "old" rookie spoke volumes about the club's terrible drafting history when other clubs from that same era had 80-100 point rookies. When people talk about forwards from the '82 Canucks, names like Smyl, Gradin, Boldirev, Williams, Rota and Nill come to mind. Where's Hlinka? He may have been a great player on the world stage but not on the Canucks. Anyway, so glad that Pettersson has broken a record that was so long overdue to be broken. Hope he can be the first 70-point Canucks rookie with 9 games left.
Pears
1981-82: Ivan Hlinka sets the team rookie points record in points, Canucks go to the SCF that year 1991-92: Pavel Bure ties Hlinka’s rookie points record, Canucks make the SCF 2 years later 2018-19: Elias Pettersson sets the Canucks rookie points record. Outcome TBD
