With Petey falling off in scoring, do you think Binnington has a chance at winning the Calder? (Votes are cast pre-playoffs)

With Petey falling off in scoring the last month of the season, do you feel Binnington has a good shot at the Calder ?  The Blues' rookie goalie is 22 - 5 and has moved his team from last place to a solid playoff spot this year.

If the Blues get past the first round then Binnington gets it. If not, it’s Peteys to lose.

I hate to say it, but binnington carried st Louis to the playoffs. However Petey played more games and took much more abuse day in and day out. The length of the season really wore down Petey. I hope he gets 1 or 2  more goals.

Goalies can get hot. Remember Andrew Hammond? He dragged the Senators to a playoff spot a couple of years ago with a crazy 20-1-2 run. That was his rookie season. Ekblad won the Calder that year. 

 

Edit: the other finals were Gaudreau and Stone. So Hammond wasn't even a finalist edit: Hammond was 1 year too old to be a rookie

 

Ekblad: 12-27-39 in 81 GP 

Gaudreau: 24-40-64 in 80 GP

Stone: 26-38-64 in 80 GP

Pettersson this season: 27-38-65 in 68 GP

Dahlin this season: 8-33-41 in 80 GP

Heiskanin this season: 12-21-33 in 80 GP

 

Hammond's stats that season: 20-1-2. 1.79 GAA 0.941 SV% and 3 shutouts

Binnington's stats this season: 22-5-0 1.85 GAA 0.928 SV% and 5 shutouts

Similar but Hammond looks better

He's amazing, but I don't see a goalie winning it unless they play 40+ games. I think EP wins in a landslide. Dahlin and Binnington will be lucky to get a few votes here and there for 1st. I think even Binnington might not beat out Tkachuk for 3rd.

Playoffs have no implications on all individual awards except for the Conn Smythe.

Is the voting actually done before the playoffs? because even though the playoffs "don't" matter for those awards, voters are easily swayed by recent memory

It is done right after the end of the regular season and before the playoffs. They just hold off on the results until the awards show.

Interesting perspective, as Markstrom just won Canuck's MVP.  It would be great to see if Petey can get a couple of goals or hat trick on Binnington on the last game against the blues.  If he does, I'll lean towards your perspective ;).  I do want Petey to win, but wow, Binnington looks like the real deal as well.

If Binnington had his current numbers with 45 or 50 games, I think he'd actually win it over Pettersson, but it'd be a close vote. He's been incredible this year and I'm interested to see if he can keep it up for next year.

He's 25 and having a good run. 

 

Pettersson is 20 and had 10 goals in his first 10 games. 7 GWG. Not to mention his highlight reel passes, shootout goals, and defensive plays.

Playoffs don't count for voting. So what he does in the playoffs is irrelevant.

Should be Petey but why is nobody talking about Dahlin?  Good point totals, physical and it matters that it's harder to be a good defenseman at a young age.

If Pettersson totally dried up then the Calder goes to Binnington but he is still producing assists so he hasn't exactly fallen off the map. If Petey doesn't get the Calder then the NHL is rigged against the Canucks.

There is no chance on the god given earth that Binnington gets it. I doubt he would even garner a few first place votes. He played like 30 games
