this is all so stupid. We're talking about 1/10th of the amount of containers that fit on a ship.

I do love the idea of the little fool standing at the bow of a ship with angry face sailing all the way here tho  that would just be awesome and worth taking it back.

If only....still, I could see a shark taking a bite out of him and then spitting it out before saying, "This tastes like ass!"

Except "Canada" didn't do that. A Canadian company did. Do you think Trump would take responsibility if Dow was responsible for a chemical spill in India?

That being said, JT should probably cowboy up. The unnamed company is probably defunct, or will be if they're ordered to do something about this.

Also, I can take Duterte seriously. The only "invasion" I can see fro Filipinos would be all of the Canadian Karaoke bars...

Canada goes and picks up the garbage and sues the company for their mistake, pretty simple outcome

Except the company is no more. They could sue the principals, I suppose, but if they've declared bankruptcy....

Saw this in an older article - The company is from the Philippines. A shipper (possibly 1 person in name only) was from Canada.

In February 2014, the Bureau of Customs filed criminal charges against a firm based in Valenzuela City for importing 50 40-foot container vans loaded with tons of waste materials from Canada.

Charged with smuggling before the Department of Justice were Adelfa Eduardo, owner, and proprietor of Chronic Plastics, a firm based in Canumay, Valenzuela City, and the company’s licensed customs brokers Leonora Flores and Sherjun Saldon.

Then Customs Commissioner John Philip Sevilla said the respondents violated Sections 3601 and 3602 of the Tariff and Customs Code of the Philippines (TCCP); Republic Act (RA) 6969, otherwise known as the Toxic Substance and Hazardous Wastes and Nuclear Wastes Control Act of 1990; and Article 172 in relation to Article 171 of the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines.Republic Act 6969 bans the importation of hazardous materials into the Philippines while the TCCP holds an importer criminally liable for unlawful importations.

“It is very clear that these waste materials were shipped to the Philippines illegally. There were violations in the process for importation and misdeclarations made on paper. Moreover, we must be mindful of the threat to public health and safety that these wastes could bring to our people,” said Sevilla.

The container vans arrived in six batches from June to August 2013 at the Manila International Container Port and were subsequently seized by Customs Police and operatives of the Enforcement Group after a spot inspection revealed that these contained used mixed and unsorted or “heterogeneous” plastic materials, including household garbage and even used adult diapers, and not homogeneous or recyclable plastic scrap materials as declared by the importer.

The importers even declared a total value of P3.9 million (roughly $100,000 CND) for 19 of the containers.

Chronic Plastic is a 150-man operation in Valenzuela engaged in the sorting and selling of recyclable materials shipped from Canada.

Customs officials identified the shipper as Chronic Inc. of 95 Regency Crescent Whitby, Ontario, Canada.

They said the shipment had no written approval from the Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources or his duly authorized representative as required by law.

Those 4 countries aren't part of nato and South Korea would annihilate North Korea.

I know, but if the US can't even honour it's NATO alliance agreement, they're probably not going to honour any existing agreement regarding the ROK, Japan and Taiwan.

I do agree that South Korea would destroy North Korea though... but if nukes are involved.... it's a toss up.

True, but Seoul will be a smoking ruin with millions dead, so no real winner.

Oh man Rob, before you "whip out" the Trudeau meme's you might want to check the history here before assigning political responsibility. Your guy Harper declared it a private company issue back in 2015 and left us all with a mess to clean up: https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/containers-of-canadian-garbage-languishing-in-philippines-port-1.2289671

I could have been by Sir John A and I would still whip out a Trudeau meme.   The guy is a cancer to the country I was born in and I will take every opportunity to blame him for anything inclusive of things done by others....it is my right as a defender of all things logical.

I would be more concerned with ring of fire that NK has around Seoul. They have deployed 170mm SPG and 240mm MRLS. According to miltary sources they have 175 batteries, thats lot of ammo to be fired off. Especially in a very densely populated area.

Ah but a cancer prevents any other diseases from infecting us as how that disease attacks other parasites that seeks to take control of the body.  Have to look at the bright side of things.:P

I am Filipino and lived in The Philippines (until a few years ago) and I can say I am not part of that 80 %to 85%. Problem with Duterte is that he's setting a precedent in the country where ethics is being compromised. He's not a dictator yet but does exhibit some traits of a dictator.

He's already attacked the news media, arrested his political opponents, and has succeeded in making half the population support illegal killings by law enforcement.

What's worse is that his character is permeating to the population especially with his supporters. His aggressive and angry tone is basically how his supporters are behaving in social media sending death threats and bullying people online.

I am not saying Canada is absolved of any wrong doing but as a Filipino, I am ashamed of being one right now because of Duterte and the culture he is creating.

Attacked the news media? How so? Rappler was guilty of tax evasion, and by law, aren't allowed to operate in the first place since they are owned by foreigners.

Whos are these politcal opponents that have been jailed are you talking about? Theres only been one, Leila Delima, and she was jailed because shes guilty of aiding the drug lords. The maximum prison in the philippines have been turned into casinos, with satelitte tvs, internet, jacuzzis, hell even concert venues for the head inmates, thats all under her watch

As for the bullying, theres a crap load more anti duterte trolls out there getting paid by the LPs

I personally am not Filipino, but my friend is cousins with Aquino and he has told me all the dirt about the Duterte administration.

He is a horrible person, and is not that much better as a president.

Aquino, the last one NoyNoy is probably considered the worst president of all time. The same guy that OKed a vaccination that killed thousands of children, and padded his bank account with the Hurricane Yolanda funds that millions of people in the world donated to. Why don't you ask you supposed Aquino buddy how wealthy their family is,The Aquinos are the worst and single reason why the Philippines is still a 3rd world nation. Duterte still stays in his quaint home that hes owned, and drives the same pickup truck for the last few decades. The Aquinos live in gigantic mansions with numerous maids and drivers. Whos corrupt now? Get your facts straight
