Hindustan Smyl
Was not a fan of his writing but no one deserves this. RIP Jason. My sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.
Comeback_Kings
#Botchies botched as imperfect, like us, like our team, like predictions on cdc. Words said and understood about the Canucks, about Canuck fans, ownership, players, management. Opinionated sure, but most importantly, said and appreciated. We are all Canucks and we appreciate what you said, #ripBotch

But no family should lose a father that early, condolences to them. This is a bit harsh I think... A lot of people have stated their disliking for his writing as their opinions which I totally get. However I think most people would consider him a brilliant and totally lively writer, a change from the formalistic journalism we're so used to seeing, and was the anchor of Vancouver sports media. You could argue he was "unprofessional," but he took the stance of being just one of us, one of the fans, and would never shy away from his own opinion which made him so different, whereas "professionals" just follow the rulebook. Personally I'd rather read what he had to say, versus articles that would reek nothing but positivity all the time and would get many upvotes on CDC, and that's not a dig at CDC, just a compliment on his total uniqueness. 4 4

skategal
I think the tributes coming in from other teams and players speak volumes to his character. I know that when anyone passes, generally most speak more kindly of them than they might have while the person was alive, but to see other teams expressing condolences is perhaps a bit unusual. Many of the comments from players are with regard to how kind he was. I try to keep in mind that my opinion of him was formed only by what I saw which was truly only a small part of who he was. To that end, I liked what I saw. I think Deb made a comment earlier about perhaps being too harsh sometimes, I think we all fall into that trap. Also, I'm blown away by the professionalism of the other staff at the TSN group and his friends who knew he had passed on the weekend and respected the families wishes not to say anything until yesterday. How hard it must have been to come in to work on air and carry on outwardly as though nothing was wrong while knowing that your colleague was never coming back into the studio.
Popular Post cowboy644
RIP Botch.I am surprised at the number of people on here who didn't care for his writing or personality. How does one not like his writing without continually reading it?After several reads do you not realize it's not going to change. The same with his personality. After listening to him for a long time I know he is going to rant on a Canucks topic that has put a burr under his saddle.I loved it.Frigging loved it.I do not dutifu[ly kneel down at the trough of the Vancouver Canucks and lap up my fill. This regime is exactly the failure Botch has called out.No playoffs 5 out of 6 years.Putrid mediocrity through most of the line up except for 4 or 5 players.Anyway a rant for another day. Botch took years to develop his relationship with the Canuck organization.Time to be trusted with inside knowledge and the wisdom of when to share and when to know to keep it firmly in his pocket.Players knew he was coming after the game. Some cringed, some enjoyed. After listening to his colleages yesterday you fully understood his brilliance at breaking down games and the small nuances he saw. These are people who sat and watched right beside him in the pess box. Some plays he thought negative and some positive. He showed both thru gifs in The Athletties.Botch was a fan of us fans and gave a large and carrying voice to most of us while also giving a platform to voice our opinion.A pioneer of that.Nobody said you have to agree with all that he said, but saying you disagree with much of what he said means you truly didn't get what he was trying to do as a media personality. It was nothing more than to try to make you think for yourself as a fan.How would you improve this team if what they're doing isn't working.Say it outloud on a forum. At least venting can be cathartic. Jason Botchford said they needed an army.Well I was totally in Botchford's Army.I followed along and watched as he lead the way that was absolutely different from all who said they were reporters for the Canucks. His pen was his sword. His beliefs his shield. Those that didn't want to join stood on the roadway and shook their heads and nodded at each other. What started as a small path in a new way of taking the Canucks to task thru reporting by Tony Gallagher was turned to a wide road by one Jason Botchford. I fear to see what the future holds those of us waiting until after the game ends.Sadly we may only be left with the sincafant reporters who kneel at the trough. or worse, the ones I click over who just break down the game period by period.God help all of us that can not suffer the mundane. Kosmo Kramer
He wasn't very popular amongst alot of Canuck fans, but he was respected amongst his peers and he covered our team! Whether I liked everything he wrote or not, this is really sad news. Especially at his age, yikes! More than halfway to being retired and enjoying his family and life, and its taken away unexpected. Sorry Botchford family, deserved better.
Popular Post -DLC-
Something that really hit me when listening to all the tributes of respect pouring in. Someone on the radio who said it's sad we won't get to hear Botch 20 years from now, as a curmudgeonly old man. He won't get to see this thing through...mostly, his kids growing up but, from a selfish standpoint, to cover our team as things unfold. Because, yes, that will be a huge hole...love his stuff or hate it, it's done. My Mom collapsed at work at 52...she was lucky and survived, though not without life changing "alterations". There is so much life to be lived in the latter half...I'm just really, really sad that he and his family have had that ripped away but, also, didn't get any warning or chance to plan. Not that it makes it easier.... As a fanbase, we've lost too many young ones in the recent past. It really highlights how special life is and that all the time we spend worrying and complaining about stuff that doesn't matter is wasted. Still processing this. Spoke to my son last night...he loved Botch and read every article. I get the great joy of being with my kids Saturday...I will cherish every single second. As always, but especially so. 4 1 3
Popular Post Odjick29willkillyou
As an American who has listened to TEAM/TSN1040 and followed the Provie online since the mid 2000's, I have loved and hated Botch. For the longest time I felt like he was mostly negative and hated this team, but then I realized that he was just frustrated as a fan much like me. He has seen this ownership be so close, yet so far away due to poor business decisions and like me calls it into question. His appearances on the Patcast were what won me over. He just seemed more genuine and down to earth on those. His chemistry with Jeff was great and really kinda made that whole "angel vs. devil" dynamic work as Jeff is the soft spoken veteran and Botch the loud mouthed and passionate fan who also happens to be an analyst. I always hoped I would run into him here in Dallas whether at a game or last year's draft, but unfortunately that never happened. He has left quite a legacy in the Vancouver hockey market be it good or bad, but you cannot deny that he was beloved by many in the industry based on the social media tributes pouring in. If anything, this is just a reminder that we all need to take care of ourselves and get the ol physical check-up on a routine basis. Hopefully this raises awareness for heart disease and how it vastly impacts so many men across the world. RIP Botch. Vancouver media will not be the same without you. 2
falcon45ca
Huge blow to sports journalism, and an even bigger loss to his family and friends. He was an electric and engaging writer, passionate & unapologetic. Reading his articles and (occasionally) listening to his broadcasts, I never once felt the man was anything but genuine. Hope you had a good trip Botch, and thanks for the ride. It's been a slice.
