[Proposal/Discussion] Hughes to NJD

I know none of you want this to happen, but I am very interested in this situation as I think it is very possible it does happen. Is Hischier + a defenseman like Vatanen enough to get this deal done?

Hischier is a huge loss to the Devils core, but they add J. Hughes to replace him AND get who appears to be a stud, Q. Hughes in return as well. Vatanen is 27, but has played some of his best hockey in the West. Pettersson-Hischier-Boeser has potential to be absolutely disgusting.

Idk, I'm just spit-balling. Maybe it isn't enough, maybe it takes Hischier+Butcher to get it done. Which I personally think the Devils say hell no to that, but the chance to have two brothers that are projected to be allstars doesn't come along often.

Opinions?

Ya know, I don't like this idea, but I've got to hand it to you for coming up with a unique idea at least, instead of the old...hey, is this enough to pry the #1 overall away from New Jersey with?

But, No....let's keep what we've got.

Yeah, I feel the same way.  If JB were to do a trade, I would hope he would acquire Hischier and Butcher.  Keep Butcher and immediately trade Hischier + Tanev (50% retained)  for Trouba (guarantee signing).

I really doubt JB would trade Hughes though and I probably wouldn't either.

OR we just keep Hughes.   He could be really really good.  Butcher is a PP specialist which would be nice...but I’d still rather have Q Hughes then the pair of them, maybe it’s a mistake but it would be nice to find out.

What about Trouba and Butcher though?

I think Hischier + Vatanen is pretty good value and theoretically, we should accept that deal.

That said, the closest we've ever had to a Norris-winning defenseman is Jovocop and I'd like to see if we could get better. I think our dearth of defensemen is greater than our lack of forwards, so in terms of team needs, I don't think I'd do it.

I know it’s two guys.  Butcher is used primarily as a PP specialist his defensive game isn’t that good, Trouba is pretty darn good no doubt...it’s a coin toss but I’d stick with Hughes, his age is right and we don’t know just how good he is yet.

Are the Hughes brothers twins and play on the same line?  If not who cares?  Did all the Sutter brothers get traded to the same team to reunite the family?

Lots of brothers have played in the NHL on different teams.  Unless they are twins and have played together on the same line for the entirety of their hockey life it's not worth having them on the same team, especially if you have to give up important assets to make it happen.

If it's a straight up 1 for 1 trade, it will be a hockey trade.

It would certainly suddenly make the Canucks centre position extremely strong.  Pettersson as the #1, Hischier as the #2... with Bo either the "#3" or as a power forward winger.

Certainly would make players like Sutter very expendable, where a return may be a defensive prospect or a pick.

The trade would also make the team's defense corp much weaker.  So unless Vancouver is able to somehow land a player like Karlsson, the trade wouldn't really make the team actually better.  Just be 1 step back and 1 step forward.

No one cares about this.

I posted this proposal in the draft thread. When someone mentioned, what if Shero came calling for Quinton, what would it take to deal him?

To New Jersey:

Quinton Hughes

Ben Hutton

One of Goldobin, Spooner, Granlund

To Vancouver:

Ty Smith

Damon Severson

Their own 2nd
