we need refineries....and then the pipelines to get the material to those refineries.  We shot ourselves in the foot as a country by not investing in more refineries in the first place.  Then people are sold that all we need is pipelines....ugh

Its unbelievable how much misinformation there is surrounding the TMX Pipeline. So many people think there is a direct correlation between the pipeline being built and decreased gas prices. That is completely fabricated and wishful thinking. Just like everyone blamed the carbon tax for the recent fuel price hike, even though its now returning to its lower prices despite the exact same carbon tax remaining in place.

The fact is that the oil and refined products coming through the TMX Pipeline is not designed for Canadian consumption. It is for foreign export. There is no significant benefit to British Columbia, yet British Columbia has to accept all the risk. Most of the jobs for the construction are temporary. Canada would be far better off spending the money it spent on the TMX Pipeline and investing it into renewable infrastructure to create permanent long-term solutions for the economy and ecosystem.

well Alberta is spending millions on newspaper and radio ads that are complete bull $&!#. So money well spent?

Its the same thing with the "turn off the taps" legislation. Its not to turn off the taps, its to send 100% bitumen for export and totally cut us off if they could for the export market.

We need the money to get to that, which we could have gotten from the oil industry if we had invested the money received from it wisely.  Instead, boom or bust, baby!  Now we'll be left with all the clean up, none of the money, and the pain of having to transition to a differing energy platform without the benefits of having one industry quietly and smartly phase into another.  Of course, that would require leadership, insight, and intelligence.

Sure, but its differnet when its a province lying to another isn't it? is to me anyway.

Regardless, Trudeau just approved it so it should be happy days in AB. But they won't give him any credit, none.

From the Transmountain website...

  • The existing pipeline will carry refined products, synthetic crude oils, and light crude oils with the capability for heavy crude oils
  • The new pipeline will carry heavier oils with the capability for transporting light crude oils.

So again... how does a new pipeline reduce gas prices?

Cause now we have more of it when it gets built and then finished.

Still not convinced it is a done deal. Just looking forward to see the meltdown from @kingofsurrey  I'm sure it will include his usual unoriginal rants about big trucks, cowboys, etc.....

man you guys in Calgary are a suspicious bunch. This is going to kill Trudeau at the polls in BC, he wouldn't do that if it wasn't a done deal.

It's not the NDP it's the Green party.

The NDP has shifted policies from protecting workers to protecting the environment in the last 20 years.   In the past the NDP has depended on unions like the IWA and the Steel Workers.   The NDP is no longer a working class union party that focus on the trades but more a urban focused party that get its support from public unions and special interest groups.

The dichotomy of the NDP is who to serve; the intellectual elites vs the working class.  Basically the NDP is betraying its roots by stopping mega projects that hired unionized workers.   So not surprisingly, in every election, not all blue collar people vote for the NDP.
