[Rumour] Canucks aggressively pursuing Tyson Barrie

They may have the same problem we do at times? CDC anyway.

Inflated expectations. I liked D Mo's point. Look what NYR's paid for their big RHD. Who is better than Barrie as a whole by a fair margin. Albeit most teams that have a Trouba, want the puck mover as their next piece? Then look at what Montreal & Nashville get for Subban? With cap leverage working against them. But the key point, Barrie a more one dimensional player with only 1 year on his pact.  And a similar reputation for not discounting his worth.

Is Barrie with 1 year on his pact worth, Alex Tuch for example? A simple hockey deal I would not make. And with Stone signed, you could argue he's available? Not that Barrie is who Vegas is after. Just a discussing value.  Barrie wont command a young, long term controlled, 45 or 55 point top 6 forward.

Minny apparently wants a D for Zucker. Don't even think they'll go for him. Same problem, do they need a rental? I don't think they make that deal.

Philly might have been an obvious choice.  But Niskannen was actually more on point with what they need. They had a PMD and needed 2 way play. And paid less for him.

They're gong to have to find a contender.  Maybe Boston would pay Danton Heinen. Is he top 6 enough?  Is Jake not still better based on speed, size...

Sakic waited out Duchene. But he may have too high expectations here.

Sakic says he is content to keep Barrie as their own rental for the season.

Timmins, who they have real high hopes for, hasn't played in over a year.  Keeping Barrie allows them to ease him in.  Bednar has gone with 7 Ds at times and even in the playoffs.  They could well go into the season playing 7Ds and 11Fs.  Remove Barrie and they play 6Ds.

Girard Makar

Zadorov Barrie

Cole Johnson

Timmins

----
Minnesota is not looking for a D in return for Zucker.  On the right side they already have Dumba and Spurgeon, who Fenton has every intention to extend and says discussions have gone well.  They've also just extended RD Brad Hunt on a two-year 1-way deal.

They are looking for a scoring right shot - they have too many left wings and only 1 right shot F in their top-9.  He again said it before the draft.  By the sounds of it they could well keep Zucker as the offers are not compelling enough.

Tanev+Baertschi+prospect for Barrie, Avs go after Panarin

Its obvious its ownership pulling the strings.  Benning doesn't have a contract extension, has to make the playoffs and then we'll see.  So it's kind of make it or break it for him.  Unfortunately, this owner is too impatient.  There were no legit prospects in the system basically after the 2011 run.  The team couldnt draft worth a damn and the core players aged after that run.

Sakic hangs up unless that prospect is someone like our 10th OA selection a few days ago. Even then he probably would say no.

I want sakic to be our GM.

I like that Sakic knows the value of his players and holds out for the best deals he can get. But that might bite him with Barrie next year.

Sakic said that he is more than happy to keep Barrie and use him as his own rental.  It buys more time for their young Ds to develop further.  Makar just turned pro.  Timmins has yet to play a NHL game.

Jim Benning was a pretty good hockey player in his day...

But he ain't no Joe Sakic.

The fact that guys like Sakic and Yzerman are so good in their roles should be of no surprise. Hockey minds are hockey minds.

Tell that to Coach Gretzky.

Sign Barrie as a UFA next year, forget giving up assets.

Edler Barrie

Hughes Myers

Juolevi Tryamkin

Stecher/Sautner/Brisbois

thats great depth

Hopefully the opportunity is there, but reality is that most top flight pending UFA's never actually get to market. They're either re-signed or traded and then signed by the acquiring team.

Also, if JB gives Myers $7M+ this year, it might be tough to throw the necessary funds at Barrie to get him (If Myers/Gardner are worth $7M+ over $7 you'd have to think Barrie is in the $8.5-$9 ballpark).

I think the ideal scenario is acquiring Barrie this season, having him fall in love with being home and the solid young core this team has, and hoping he re-signs at a reasonable rate.

He’ll want to get paid, even if he’s traded he’ll go UFA. These guys get one chance in their careers to get PAID, most are willing to explore it, especially if they are talented players

This is always said but very rarely happens. Top end talent in the prime of their careers get paid anyways because their current team or the team they are traded to value them highly (because they know how hard these types of players are to replace). Top tier talent rarely go to FA, and when they do they are generally past their prime. JT was an outlier, not the norm.

what?

if that were simply true, you wouldn't have teams like the Coil with their patronage appointment front office for former Cup Oilers crapping away lottery after lottery pick unable to build a team.

it aint that simple.

often the best minds are the ones that could not play.

Yes if he’s been with a team for a while and they have cap room. A) Colorado won’t have cap room b) if he’s traded it’s one year, he may not want to stay, may want to play elsewhere etc
