If we nail this pick and OJ becomes what he can there are some 2000’s battles between the Avs and Canucks coming

McKinnon - Petey

Rantanen - Boeser

Makar - Hughes

Landeskog -Bo

so we match up well. But we need OJ, Try back, and to nail this pick. If we do I think we may be the better team! They’re just ahead of us timeline wise.

100 percent. Jake is Jake, and if that becomes a straight ahead 20goal 20 assist guy that can hit that's great. Tryamkin coming back would be incredible for the franchise. The million dollar question is OJ. If he pans out to  become a top 4 we are right there. The biggest if to me is OJ. He really is going to make a big difference for the better or worse.

Way over payment for Barrie.  If that was offered, Sakic checks to make sure that's actually JB and not a prank call.

I dunno Alfie, check the scoring: http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=99406

We really need that. Yeah he's smurfy but then pair him with Edler and then Juolevi for the future. Both would be great pairings imo.

We can then move Tanev too.

Puts a lot of good changes in motion.

If its top 3 protected its hard to argue that the value is whats required for a right handed pmd.

Smells like desperation to me.  Yes we need to get better but next years first for us could complete our rebuild in a deep draft.  I’d do this only if he had something else in his sleeve we don’t know about, that would almost certainly put us in the playoffs.  I get there is a bit cost for this sort of thing, but we already have two smurfs in the back end and although Barrie is a proven producer ... I hate this idea.

The days of small skilled guys are numbered IMO...history shows that you don’t win cups with this type of defense...name ONE cup where it’s happened.  I don’t care if we are the eighth seed because our regular season didn’t go so well (saying hello to LA x 2 cups).  You don’t win cups with tiny teenie players.

In other words :  Marner to Dubas.  “would you like some more lube before we sign this contract?”

:gocan:  Do you know when the teams have to have their contracts below the cap?  Can the Leafs sign Marner, and worry about getting under the cap later in the summer?  Not sure how that works.

well this would make a buzz

Hmmm well as it says " a 2020 1st" not Canucks 2020 1st, maybe JB has a deal for another teams 2020 1st that would complete this deal, so they give Col the lowest of the 1st's... It could be decent especially if JB can get Burakovsky from Washington for next to nothing who would then be Jake's replacement

Not sure what to make of this if, and I mean BIG IF, true.

Goes against JB's mantra of building a sustainable model through the draft.

But does support JB's philosophy of building from net, to defence to centermen.

Dubas says it's not a given that he will match an offer-sheet.  It's probably also a warning to Marner.

I think they are allowed to go over the cap by 10% during the off-season.

said the cap "almost doesn't count" because there is one catch for teams with big payrolls: you can exceed the cap during the offseason by up to 10%.

huh. I see him as a great addition, he's got a great offensive game and doesn't cough up the puck. And I like the future moves it triggers.

Pretty sure they have the entire summer to sort their cap issues out and they have to be under the cap before the season starts.  I’m too lazy to check and because I’m back East am already into the beer.  So I’m going by memory ha ha.  As I say I’m pretty sure I’d say 90%.

yeah its pricey, but it isn't Hall for Larsen either.

If its not lotto protected tho I can see this being a real fan-base splitter.

If it's not lottery protected - guarantee that spot wins the lottery that year.  That's how our luck is with this league.

I think the team needs some size.  Dack, Cozens or Boldy would be nice.  If the forwards are picked over then lets trade down and take Seider , Harley or Newhook.

It won't happen but get another first Jimbo.  What a shame they didn't plan ahead for this draft a few years ago.:sadno:

RE potential Canucks/AVs trade:

Too bad that last year the Canucks didn't have a 28 yr old top pair RD to trade for a package of a big, strong, fast, young former top 10 pick on the verge of being a 20 goal scorer PLUS a first round pick in this year's draft.....OH WAIT

I’m going to say IF he has something else up his sleeve it COULD be a good idea.  Something that would almost guarantee the playoffs.  Otherwise it could get ugly next draft the same way it did to OTT (although it could have been much worse).   Sakic is betting we don’t make the playoffs in this deal and we are betting we do.  I’m ok with losing JV, I’m not ok with losing a chance at a game breaker next year for Barrie services for four years.   Don’t forget he’s had some excellent players padding his stats over that time.  Yes he’s a good PP specialist and he’s on a great contract.  But he’s not a two -way defenseman his game has flaws.... let’s just say I’d rather sign Myers and keep JV and our pick...and that it does smell like desperation on JBs part to me.  That said I’d probably get over it, not the worst idea in the world and our defense does need transformation - is this is the deal that’s available then taking it makes some sense.

Yuck. It would be a mistake to give up on jake, let alone add likely another mid-high first.

This is the kind of stupidity that I was worried about. Next years draft is very deep and one D man will not get us out of the basement. I hope they would be smart enough to see to it that he has to be extended.

Owners are playing for now and it will shoot themselves in the foot. If they do this the Canucks pick will win the lotto.

Omg I love draft day! Probably my favourite NHL day of the year!!!

Not me - by far the worst - as in the entire time I have been a Canucks fan (since 1975) - they have never gotten the 1st over all pick.
