Are we a playoff team next year?

I would hazard a guess that not only will we be a playoff team this year, we will beat out the might Maple Leafs in actually winning a playoff series. I would love to see how Sportsnet, TSN, etc. deal with that.

You and me both.   Would be sweet - especially because then we win the cup.  Bettmans head would explode handing the cup to Horvat.

No one has the Nucks making the playoffs this year, so it will take a Hurricane type year for them to make it to the dance. Too many things will need to go right for them to make it and there are way too many unknowns. Plus it will only a take a few things to go wrong for them to crash out again (injury to key players for one). It would be awesome for them and the young core to experience it but most likely not this year. :(

Wake up.....rebuild is over.

When you say that just because no one (the media) has us making the playoffs makes one iota of a difference on wether  we actually make the playoffs is just bull.

That is why they play the games. And when they do the Canucks will make the playoffs

I agree with this.  I also think that the added depth will help when injuries do strike and that both Edler and Tanev’s workload will be reduced with the additions on defense.   Myers and Hughes will end up running the first PP unit at some point, and Myers and Benn are both decent to very good PKers which will take the load off them too.   This could help tremendously, as will Sutter and Beagle taking the load off Horvat ... no way he can maintain last years load forever.   Think we might actually break the trend this year, but if we don’t at least we have way better depth.  Playoffs for sure on paper.  I think the Vegas bubble will pop a bit even with a Stone and Patches and SJ will be scraping to make the show if EK is less then 100%.

i so agree.

I think there's a tendency to neglect the importance depth (in the media, at least and specifically with Vancouver.) But we didn't have any depth on our Canucks and now we do, I think and I think that matters. Like you said, or at least implied, tired players get injured. With better depth there's less reason to get over fatigued. Even better is the fact injured players can be replaced and not just by what moves up in the lineup. If there isn't depth down at Utica now there should be after everybody gets shuffled around - but there are some that look ready to move up already and I expect good surprises from others.

Depth is key this year. If the Canucks have it as I believe they do this year they'll make the playoffs. Providing the two goaltenders hang in there, of course, and unlike the guys on the radio I think they will.

You been asleep for the last six months? Take a look at their current lineup. By the way, your logic needs some work; even if it were true that "no one has the Canucks  making the playoffs this year", the opinions of ignorant people mean nothing at all.

Yeah, his logic for a few things is so far off base! I feel like some people are living with their head in the sand and / or not using any common sense. Plus, a little research never hurts.

It's still so early and really hard to accurately gauge where this team really is even with the wins and comebacks.

When looking at the team leaders so far, our best players are leading the way - Miller, Petey, Boeser, Horvat, Edler, Hughes. This is really the way it should be and what we need to maintain. We also have Sutter, Pearson, Leivo and Tanev coming alive and contributing as well.

The interesting thing is that it still seems like our best players aren't really AT their best yet and still finding their way together. That's still with both Miller and Petey above a ppg pace.

We still haven't seen the best of Ferland yet along with Jake finding a better groove.

Goaltending has been exactly what we need to make the playoffs.

So far our D is contributing and our offense is getting it done despite not being at its best. These are good signs this early but we really need to get wins over better competition and playoff contenders.

Ultimately I'm keeping an eye on our goal differential. If we maintain a positive goal differential this season, we'll likely be a playoff team. There wasn't one playoff team last season that had a negative goal differential. It's not the whole picture but it is a glimpse into how we're tracking. Last season we finished the season with a -29.

Right now we're 30 GF, 19 GA after 9 games.

We've played one less game than the Oilers at 10 games and two less than the Golden Knights at 11 games.

The Oilers have 31 GF, 24 GA. The Knights have 36 GF, 28 GA.

Interestingly, the Avalanche have only played 9 games with 36 GF, 24 GA.

In no way am I saying anything definitive at this stage. It's way too early but we do have to keep finding ways to score across the entire roster and our goaltending has to stay this way.

Fans forget if other teams sustain injuries to their top guys we could easily get in.. especially after the TD passes, not even mentioning that this team already sits 7th overall and we're supposed to be next to last already. Think too many fans listen way too much to what the media says..

We actually have depth this year and a much better team to begin with..

It’s not even close to the same team we had last year.  Our defense especially- but also our goaltending and our top six have all been upgraded.   Don’t think that many media guys really like us that much, and the ones that are neutral just say the same things others circulate and perhaps that plays into it.  The only guy that really seems to get it is Button.  His mid summer report on us was glowing - despite the guy asking questions doing his best to make us look bad - and then again when talking about JB extension and fully supporting it despite the d!ckhead on the other side trying his best to make it seem like a bad move.  Both times he got heated about it and shut the other talking head down.  Button said absolutely we are a playoff contender or team now and absolutely JB deserved his extension.  Good videos each about 3 mins long.

Larkin too in THN, he’s predicting we are the next team that hasn’t won a cup yet to win it next....nice to see some support from the media but it isn’t mainstream YET.   JM is getting some good props lately and deserves it...if we keep it up the media bandwagoners will eventually jump onboard...like the term they used for Thatcher Demko too - “the Natural”.
