Not a huge fan of drafting overagers. Perhaps the attraction of having a player they can keep a little better tabs on, also with a quicker route to the AHL, played a part in the choice they made. There's upside of course (or else they wouldn't have bothered) but they're probably looking at a lot of factors like that they wouldn't consider in the first few rounds. By the way you missed Gaudette from your list But if 12% make it 88% don't I was only mentioning players who are at least part-time top-6/top-4. Popular Post JeremyCuddles
Listen, does he hit/fight? That’s all that matters. I wanna yell “get Focht” when he hits or fights someone. Otherwise, why even bother?

In Focht's case though, he had a big jump in production this year over last. Also, not all points are created equal. It's not like he was on a stacked team getting easy second assists by passing to a surefire stud. Nobody on the Hitmen was much over a point-per-game. Gaudette didn't look like much when they took him either. We have had luck with our 5th rounders. As for guys that went undrafted at least once, we have has luck with them too. Burrows, Tanev and Trymakin. Looks like Focht was scouted and the team knows what they are getting. Love under the radar guys that exceed expectations. Funny seeing people doubt this pick with Gaudette on our roster this year.

I would like to see the Canucks take some chances on some non overager European Dmen in the later rounds. Its a good place to find hidden gems due to lack of exposure. Need young D prospects in the system.

Yes, it would not be a total shock for those guys to become our top 4 a few years down the road. Nice mix of skill and physicality.

Popular Post Rick Blight
I don't mind drafting this kid at 19, particularly if you compare his performance to others in his 1st draft eligible year (2018). The list below compares his 2019 production against some fellow CHL forwards that were drafted in 2018 (same age). Based on points only, it would not be a stretch to say that Focht would be drafted in the same ballpark as these guys if the draft were redone. 2018 draft - Focht undrafted ..................................2019 production 64 pts in 68 games 2018 draft - Ryan McLeod - 2nd round...................2019 production 62 pts in 63 games 2018 draft - Kody Clark - 2nd round........................2019 production 46 pts in 57 games 2018 draft - Cameron Hillis - 3rd round..................2019 production 22 pts in 33 games 2018 draft - Riley Stotts - 3rd round.......................2019 production 57 pts in 62 games (also a Calgary Hitmen) 2018 draft - Riley Sutter - 3rd round.......................2019 production 41 pts in 38 games Edited July 4, 2019 by Rick Blight 3
Fred65
The only reason I showed any interest in Focht is an unknown ( to me any ways ) is now selected for the Hockey Canada summer invite camp leading up to the WJC. What that tells me is although a 5th round choice maybe just maybe this kid has been scrutinized by independents and seems to have passed the test. At very least makes you think
Deathrowe
This guy playing on the first line at the Summer showcase yesterday is the most under the radar Canucks prospect news. I know it was a blowout, but did anyone watch the game and see much out of Focht?
Popular Post Nucker 67
So, if Focht plays in Utica one day and develops and finally gets a shot with the big team. I hope this is the headline: FOCHT UP WITH THE CANUCKS lol
dpn1
I watched the game and was impressed with his work ethic. Could turn into a JB type as a good forth line center that does all the little tings right; kind of like LE but much cheaper.. Sorry Timirafan. SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
Glad to see Focht had a strong game. I didn’t watch the game, but read a couple places that he was one of the standouts today. Got a chance to play at 1C and seems to have made the most of it.
