Great stuff. The more action we can get, the more new rumors will appear. And we know where that will lead.

Hartman with his 4th team since being drafted, Either everyone wants this guy or there's something wrong with his character.

Either way he has fallen quite a bit since his 20 goal season a couple years ago with Chicago.

Exactly. Seems like a good guy. Maybe somethings up with him.

VANCOUVER — General manager Jim Benning says the Vancouver Canucks were looking to add a proven goal scorer when they made a last-minute deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday.

The team is now hoping Tanner Pearson can become a consistent top-6 forward.

Benning said sending defenceman Erik Gudbranson to the Penguins for winger Tanner Pearson just prior to the trade deadline adds a "good hockey player" to Vancouver’s roster.

"He’s been a 40, 45-point guy in the league," Benning told reporters. "We think he’s going to be a good fit with either (Elias Pettersson) or (Bo Horvat). He’s just another guy that can score for us."

The Canucks (26-28-8) will be Pearson’s third team of the season. Pittsburgh (32-22-8) acquired the 26-year-old native of Kitchener, Ont., from the Los Angeles Kings in November.

Picked 30th overall by the Kings at the 2012 draft, Pearson had a career-high 44-point season in 2016-2017. His production has slowed this year, with nine goals and six assists in 61 games.

The 27-year-old Gudbranson has two goals and six assists in 57 games for Vancouver this season, but his plus-minus sits at a league-worst -27.

Drafted third overall by the Florida Panthers in 2010, the Ottawa native was traded to the Canucks in 2016 to bring a level of toughness to the team.

Benning acknowledged that Gudbranson didn’t ever fully adjust to life in Vancouver.

"He had some injuries that kind of set him back. Maybe the style of game we played wasn’t a fit to his game," the GM said. "But I’ve got to give him credit — he stuck up for our guys, he fought for our team, he was a good penalty killer for us."

Luke Schenn is expected to take over some of Gudbranson’s protective role, Benning said.

Vancouver acquired the 29-year-old defenceman from the Ducks in January for Michael Del Zotto and a seventh-round pick. Anaheim sent Del Zotto to the St. Louis Blues on Monday for a sixth-round draft spot.

With veteran defenders Alex Edler and Chris Tanev sidelined by injuries, the Canucks blue line is looking thin after Gudbranson’s departure.

But Benning said he’s excited about some of the club’s defensive prospects, including Quinn Hughes, who went seventh overall at last year’s draft. The 19-year-old is playing at the University of Michigan.

The Canucks also swapped prospects with San Jose on Monday, sending winger Jonathan Dahlen to the Sharks for centre Linus Karlsson.

Benning called the trade "a lateral move."

Vancouver acquired Dahlen from the Ottawa Senators for forward Alex Burrows in February 2017.

The 21-year-old has 14 goals and 15 assists for the American Hockey League’s Utica Comets this season.

Benning said the young Swede’s agent called him a few weeks ago, asking that Dahlen be moved. Some players are reluctant to pay their dues when it comes to development, he added.

"They just want to be given an NHL opportunity right off the start," Benning said. "We just felt that there’s some development left in (Dahlen’s) game before he’s ready to be given an NHL opportunity and we felt that he wasn’t there yet."

Karlsson, 19, has four goals and 13 assists for Karlskrona HK in the Swedish league.

Vancouver also got calls about Edler leading up to the trade deadline, Benning said. The 32-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

The club approached Edler about the offers three or four days ago, but he declined to waive the no-trade clause in his contract, Benning said.

"If he would have wanted to waive his no-trade to go to one of those teams, we would have tried to figure out a deal for him. That, obviously, didn’t happen," he said.

Negotiations about Edler’s future continue, Benning said.

"Alex has been a great player for us for a long time," he said. "We’d like to continue for him to be part of our team, part of our group. And we’re going to keep working towards trying to figure something out there."

A reluctance to give up draft picks limited what deals the Canucks could make leading up to this year’s trade deadline, Benning said.

The draft is set to be held in Vancouver in June and the team doesn’t want to trade away future potential for short-term fixes.

"I think we’ve done a good job drafting. We want to continue doing a good job drafting and developing and rebuilding the team," Benning said.

"I think the message to our fans today is to continue to be patient. We’re going to continue to do things the right way. We’re going to draft and develop, and we’re going to build this thing piece by piece so we can be competitive for a long time."

Strange - fairly weak return for Hartman.

Seemed at one point that the Hawks had a pair of pretty aggressive, talented guys in Hartman and Hayden - and both of them have not only moved on, but seem like borderline NHLers at this point.

Would have liked to take a chance on either of them a year or two ago - but it looks at this point like they might not have made great acquisitions.

Pretty much a no-brainer for Dallas though in spite of it - could still turn out.

That's been the rumour since the previous trade or 2 of Ryan Hartman Ryan Hartman.

Can't verify if he's got locker room issues.  But years ago at the Hawks Conventions, I don't think I've ever met a player act more disinterested and more disconcerted towards the fans than that guy.  Both years I went he was extremely abrasive even towards the people in his autograph line.

Feel bad for Pitty. His wife just had a baby and he really seemed to love it here.  He was our United Heroes League ambassador in DFW and was well-liked in the community.  I enjoyed working with him and hope he can continue in a similar capacity in Philly.  Conversely, we now need a new ambassador and Hartsy is an American so maybe it works out lol.

Dallas trades Pitlick for Hartman. Then opts not to qualify Hartman a day later (RFA).  Curious if they will be able to get him to signed for cheaper or if he walks.
