I would like 6x4, but it'll likely be quite a bit higher. The thing is, is that we have to either pay up in FA for a top 4 dman, or pay up in a trade for one. Or, we tough it out without adding that piece and hope one of our prospects surprises us. Very tough decision to make. Although, if you sign him for lots, at least we have him as an asset, so worst case scenario you trade him for at least something.

6 Million (he should be happy as a top 4D to get this)

4 years (he'll already be on the decline)

6 Million x 4-5 years would be ideal. He's not more than a 2nd pair D. And he's 30.

But the deal he gets is going to be longer & probably more money than that.

He made 5.5 last year, so 6 is going to be the minimum $$$ wise. And he'll be pushing for max length, 6-7 years.

All indications are that he's seeking $6-7+ x 6-7 yrs. Is Myers worth that? Absolutely not, that'll be an anchor contract. But that's the price we are going to have to pay.

4 at 5mill   no more than 6 mil or walk away   with the cap down I think prices are going down  , there are so many teams in cap trouble  so many big money rfa out there  gm,s gambling on the cap going up  , teams being mindful of expansion draft  there is gonna be lots of player movment

It's difficult because while it's apparent that they need to add a right shot defensemen , there are not a lot of opportunities to acquire one at a price that is commensurate with the players quality. What are the trade options ?  Miller in Vegas ? Faulk in Carolina ? Barrie ? These guys are going to be in demand and priced accordingly.  Look at the price Braun went for to Philadelphia. Have to think the price may have been even higher to an intra-divisional team.  Would people have been happy with this years' 2nd and 3rd for a 32 year old with one year left on his contract ?  UFA options are slim as well past Myers.  Engelland ? Stralman ? Stopgaps possibly and potentially preferable to giving Myers all the money/term but also older and possibly not interested. Myers is definitely not a top 3 guy but could be a useful 20 or so min/night guy here.  Not a terribly attractive option but when considering the alternatives it becomes somewhat more palatable...provided the money/term isn't what has been reported in the media. Fortunately , they've been wrong before.
