(Proposal) VAN - CBJ Blockbuster

Recommended Posts

Rumour had it that a trade for Tyson Barrie was quashed because COL wanted Brock Boeser.  Perhaps a better RHD might wet his appetite.

To Van: Seth Jones ($5.4m x 3)

To Columbus: Brock Boeser RFA

Obviously Brock would have to be prepared to sign on a new contract with CBJ.

What Van gets - A bona fide elite right hand defenseman for 3 more years.  There are no flaws in his game and has already put up a 57 pt season and every reason to think that he has more to give.

What CBJ gets - A young pure goal scorer.  With the possible departure of Panarin, Duchene and Dzingel its hard to see where the scoring is going to come from.  They have the cap space to offer Brock a long term deal with good money if he wants.

This would be a ballsy trade by both teams, but CBJ and VAN are teams that seem to be ready to change things up to get to the next level (VAN with the Miller trade, CBJ with their deadline trades).

I like Boeser here in Van but bold moves are what is needed.

Please feel free to vent your anger and disgust.

When Poile traded Jones he predicted that he would become a perennial Norris contender for years to come.

It's easier to find wingers than Ds especially a D1.  He's also signed to a very good deal and has been a tremendous leader for them per Tortorella.

Funny how with all the talk of trading for a RHD and age of this caliber it’s only happened once in the cap era...sure Weber and Subban were swapped but even that doesn’t count because it was one perrenial Norris candidate for a one time Norris winner...and they were older.

EP is probably the only guy that would get us something like that, and no thanks.

We simply won’t get this unless we draft it, sure anything’s possible...the odds are just so far against it.   Maybe we have one already in Hughes (one can hope), BUT the saving grace is there are some recent example of teams going to the top four and even winning cup(s) without them too.   The best we can hope for is a well balanced defense that’s augmented with the right UFAs and possibly a trade.   JV is the low handing fruit (plus picks) to acquire something to help that’s decent ... without losing a core member or making a lateral move.

And JB will never draft  this because he cant see forest for the trees

Stop trading Boeser! He is a core piece and will be amazing for us for years to come. Does one better piece on defence make up for the lost offence? Not only that, how would other core players feel? So no one is valued here, guess I'll request a trade...

Burns, Yandle, Trouba, Jones, Karlsson, Subban, Weber, Hamilton, Montour, Byfuglien and others.  All top line defencemen that have been traded in recent years.  No all RH, not necessarily as good as Jones, but it is myth that top line Dmen do not get traded.  Not often, but it does happen.

I agree EP would probably get you Jones but that would be too higher price for Van.

Byfuglien and Burns aren’t that recent are they?  I was speaking of the Jones quality guy, maybe Trouba fits that mould, and yes Karlsson too.

Yandle, Montour, Vatanen, Hamilton are all a tier or two down.  It’s not easy to get a Norris quality guy trading.  It rarely happens.   Would be nice to get one our two like the above though...

Huh? Are you saying he's passed up on a #1 d-man somewhere along the way? If so, when?

But yeah, Columbus says no. Jones is worth way too much to have a one for one work with anyone less than a true #1 center. And that assumes they want that rather than a true #1 D.
