That all looks good on paper. But once again, if the pick ends up a top-10 pick, it's not going to look good. If it's top-5, it's a major fail.

But even if we squeak into the playoffs next year, and Tampa gets a 2020 pick in the range of #16-24, that still might turn out to be regrettable. 2020 is considered one of the strongest drafts in years, perhaps even better than 2015. In 2015 the players chosen with picks #16-24 included Matthew Barzal, Kyle Connor, Thomas Chabot, Colin White, Brock Boeser, and Travis Konecny. So the idea that Miller will almost certainly be as good as the player we would have chosen had we kept the pick is also questionable reasoning.

Getting a 1st round pick back in a trade is also possible.

It's a long way off and deals happen all the time.

This team already has it's new core.  Ep40, Hughes, Demko, Bo, Brock and possibly others are the new core.

This was brought up by both Myers and Benn.  We are coming in to help the younger players.

4 years of complied talent is coming into the system.  Real talent.

This group is the best group of young talent I have ever witnessed as a fan going back to the 82 run.

When Quinn brought in Ronning, Linden  Courtnal, Bure, Maclean and others, it was a great team.  This group is far better as a whole.

Dido for the Naslund and Sedin era's.

People talk about how much Ep40 is the best young player in club history, but we have another guy that has out scored the best center in club history at the same age, Bo Horvat has better numbers than Henrik did at the same age.  Henrik also had the west coast Express in full form ahead of him in the lineup.

We have never had a defender like Hughes, Brock could become a perennial 30g guy even 40g player.

We aren't Ottawa depending on Karlssons ankles only to have another players wife send the star packing in the year they have away their 1st rounder.

They train wrecked before the season started this year.  I am surprised that they played as well as they did.

If that whole drama had not happened, Ottawa is a completely different team and unlikely to have been in the top 10.  Real life puck bunnies...

I don't like giving up a first either, however Miller is also a first round pick that has proven to be better then his draft position (on average) and is farther in his development.  You can't ice a team with only your draft picks.  At some point you need to make a push and that point is now in this case.

FA wants the team to start moving forward so Benning is doing so.  We have a new core in place and lots of prospects and some of them will push there way on to the team.  The great thing about Miller is he can play any forward position and do it on any line.  I personally like the plan and hopefully this year or next we will be in the playoffs and in 3-5 years will have our sights on competing for the Cup.

The problem with the Salary cap is you just can't wait forever or get to much high end talent as you start losing it to salary issues (aka the Leafs, Bolts, etc etc etc).  Our last time around we waited to long to make the Push and the Sedins only got 1 shot.  Do we want the same for Bo?
