I agree with the first part. Disciplined contract for Myers.

The second part I don’t get. We added grit last July 1, this year not at all. Myers biggest criticism is that he isn’t gritty, Benn is but with the loss of Schenn I would call that a push. The rest are Utica fillers.

He said almost overnight. He didn't say the team became a lot grittier in one day. So you don't think the addition of Miller way back a week ago added any grit to the team? I disagree, but I guess we will see.

I would say that we went into the off season without a lot of grit.

We will likely come out of it without a lot of grit.

I am not calling for grit before skill in any way.

I just don't think we are a terribly gritty team.

That didn't change through the off season so far.

What is shocking me is the media (even though it shouldn't)...grading Canadian teams thus far in the off season. Toronto gets and A mean while the Canucks were given a B- by these so called experts !?!?

Got to love how the media constantly undervalues the Canucks.

I for one am excited to see what this group can do next year. I am hopeful for a playoff berth, but time will tell.

Seriously? A 27 year old player scores 26 goals and 56 points and had 23 goals the previous season, and you believe that all he would command on the open market is $3M per year because he was significantly underpaid on his last contract?

Because you think someone said it on the radio, so it must be true? Wow, I have a great deal for you on a really nice bridge. Don't let anyone know, cause they would all want it.

I said they were talking about it on NHL Radio, not that I necessarily believe it is true there over-reactor.  By any chance are you his agent?  And please send me a link to this deal on your bridge.  I am super interested!

He's learned his lesson - no immovable contracts. The Myers one is beautifully broken down as well.

He has transformed the team into a gritty tough team to play against almost overnight. I just hope we have enough skill to score.

Yep, drafting for skill, supporting players bring the jam.  Benning has said all along that he wants a balance of speed and skill with some physicality.  The physical guys need to be able to play as well though.

Team identity?  There it is.   Team also plays hard for the entire game.  We saw comebacks last year like we haven't seen in years.

Character team, speed, skill, can play physical.....sounds like the Bruins :P

I disagree with the identity. That’s not us, yet.

I wonder if those comments concern the team identity concerning its direction.

Are they rebuilding or challenging, is a likely question and possibly what was being bantered around in the media,,IMO.

Maybe not yet, but I think the direction they are going.

How do you define rebuilding?  Is it about adding core players, adding players to support the core or developing the core players.  I think they are rebuilding.  Recent additions are about supporting the young core.  Said another way, helping the core to develop.

I think that Horvat is pretty much developed although who can say for sure. As for other members of the core, they will be getting better for a number of years

It’s no problems I love funny stuff.

peoole need to realize Tyler Myers is no saviour, he’s barely a good/great defensemen. Watchng him in Kelowna and buffalo showed me this. On the jets he was decent at best and that’s on a great tesm that scored all the time.

miller is also a depth type player and he’s on our first line in the projections so people think he’s some kind of stAr too.

our team is too young IMO

the core guys who really matter and will make us better like Hughes ep

boeser potentially DeMko and others.

if we don’t make it everyone is going to

comllain and want green fired and IMO some need to Realize our depth isn’t the only depth chart that looks “good.”

Glad you like Big Todd.  I named one of our farm trucks Big Todd after him.

Myers won the Calder with the Sabres.

As it stands our roster looks like:

Miller            Pettersson          Boeser

Pearson        Horvat               Sutter

Baertschi      Gaudette          Virtanen

Eriksson        Beagle             Leivo

LTIR:Roussell,

Spares: Motte, Schaller, Goldobin,

Edler     Myers

Hughes Tanev

Benn    Stecher

Spares: Swede guy, Biega

Markstrom

Demko

Overall I'd give it an B+ with an A if he can get rid of Eriksson's contract and sign someone like Dzingel.

Sutter's played RW well before and I can see him with Horvat to form an elite shutdown line (since our third isn't great defensively). So we'd use 1st/3rd for offensive zone faceoffs and 2/4 for defensive zone faceoffs. Schaller and Goldy get waived I think.

That is true.   Hence the opportunity to find prospects that have not been developed fully in another organization.

Our problems last year were injuries, other then that we had a great year and many thinks to be optimistic. The moves JB made so far this off season has again improved the team, everything JB has done may have not been my first choices, but we have to remember we have to deal with 30 other teams who want to win a Stanley Cup as well. We are aa team on the uprise and I'm sure it starts this season

Uh, look around the league - it works all the time.   There HHOF players who were cut by original team.   Brett Hull didn't crack Calgary Line-up.   Marty St. Louis in Calgary.   Come to think of it, most players who start their career in Calgary (you get the point).

It is a very common component of building a winning team.   Do you even really follow the game or just like to rant and rave about the Canucks when they are in the lower part of their inevitable cycle?

No I don't get your point.

Give me names of players who were reclamation projects who went on to being key caponants for a cup winning team. Not some 4th line plug. Not someone who was traded for to fill a hole for a cup run. A reclamation project.

Keep it current to the last 10 years.

Jim was trading picks for those types of players instead of drafting. It was done with the concept of speeding up the development time. The problem is that it didn't work so now fans are looking at those picks and thinking, " players selected with the picks we threw away would be pushing for spots right now".

How many Gaudettes could we have pushing for a spot RIGHT now? One of those second round picks that he gave would have had a shot to select Aho.

If your club drafts well it is a dangerous game to throw away picks . That is what fans are saying. Most fans like what Jim has done but we just wish he would keep to his strengths.

He did better this round with UFA's.

You’re kidding me right?

Youre telling me about Myers winning the calder with the sabres like you watched him play every game with them m, when I just told you I’ve watched every game of his career with buffalo. I know he was good in his rookie year. Had you watched the sabres and not just read off a career accomplishment you’d know what happened after which is the bigger picture as it was for a longer time and more recent.

it all fell off after that.

the guy changed and lost all confidence in himself. Believe what you want, you’ll see soon enough.

people at first may watch and HOPE he’s great but like calder winner Barrett Jackman his play fell off big time, though jackman remained soemwht credible I can’t say the same for Myers. He isn’t an awful dman but he’s not even worth four million IMo.

you could argue the sabres were trash but Myers had literally the worst plus minus in the entire NH the next two seasons is his second season the sabres weren’t trash at that point yet.

he lost confidence and while he was a standout for the rockets where I wat he’d him live and in his first year in the pros which you didn’t need to tell me which is why I daid

youre kidding me, you told me about the calder as if I didn’t already know. his play went to hell.

thats the problem with fans these they read advanced stats and look at hockey dB and hope or cheer against who they like and dislike wihout watching people for themselves.

he didn’t have hard assignments on the jets but he made mistakes there too, he’s going to get hard assignments here.

just wait.

i hope im wrong and he will improve but I know this guys game as good as anyone on here. I saw him also playing blackjack the table next to me at lake city casino in the summer of 2013, he was betting ten dollars a hand! Couldn’t believe it. Me and my uncle chuckled he was the one to come over and tell me he was there and what he was betting. I didn’t bug him he looked like he wanted to Be left alone, he was with some hot number with lots of jewelry, haven’t forgotten that.

anywAy as I said I hope I’m wrong and he can find his game.

people have blamed the injuries three years in a row. It’s true we were hurt and did well at the start of the year. It’s also true we’re too young and that was the start of the year before teams had gone over their systems look at how well buffalo did at the beginning too first place overall in early December. and then close to last. Good teams like the pens and blues also do bad at the beginning of the year too, it’s a small sample size.

im not being a hater but I think you need to realize two things.

1) EVERY team has injuries. So it doesent matter if we we’re hurt all their other teams were hurt too. Maybe not to our extent in some cases but some even worse in some cases. The injuries is what people like linden and Benning use to season ticket holders as well as owners in hope they don’t lose fand and money, it’s clear you bought it.

2) were not there yet. Even doing well wen injuries our division The entire division played like crap and first place back when we were good before injuries was a record just over .500

if that makes you think we were going to make the playoffs I don’t know what to tell you. Even when healthy do the math out team didn’t have the

offense or even close to the defense to do damage.

we may be on the rise but don’t act like those two things aren’t true either

I agree with your line of thinking but while milller is fine Myers is not even great and way overpaid. He will make gudbranson at four look good even though at his size he’s way less physical then guddy which sucks. He makes tons of mistake but he also makes good plays,

Myers is going to get hard assignments in this team and honestly fans are not going to like his play after a few months. People can quote me, bump this do whatever I watched him in Kelowna and buffalo when he was unreal then in his second year went to hell he was okay on the jets because they’re are the jets and he didn’t have to do a ton, which he will here. Hope I’m wrong but doubt it.

Agreed on JB. I think he’s trying to  save his skin which is why he doesent care about future picks at this point. Not saying your saying thaT, I am.
