Nuxfanabroad
Got thinking about this(Unicorn-sighting) Offer sheet, Bergevin went with. Is this an interesting solution? ************************************************************* Canes: allow Aho to Habs. Then send all 3 Hab picks(+ a player..say Niederreiter) to TML. TO sends Nylander & Kerfoot to Canes. Nylander after 8,000,000 bonus(Leafs pay) is only owed 25 mill/5 yrs, with 7 mill cap-hit. Him & Kerfoot combined prob under Aho's cap hit. So they dump Nieds & Aho(14 mill) to get 2 good players at about 10 mill.(meanwhile still holding the TO 1st from Marleau) Leafs get the joy of holding Hab picks, if Montreal has a tough season. Hogtown faithful stay drunk on schadenfreude. ***edit: Also, Leafs create nice cap space here. Everyone gets goodies. King Heffy
Why wouldn't Carolina just take the picks instead of taking a cap dump? Doesn't make sense for their end to do that kind of downgrade when they can just keep their player. Edited July 2, 2019 by King Heffy

You think Nylander 5 yrs at 25,000,000 (7 mill hit) is a dump?(Kerfoot too) By doing this they also avoid having to pay 21 mill(in one calendar yr) to Aho. Sure do. Nylander's lazy, soft and spoiled. Guy couldn't even be bothered to approach an effort in the playoffs for multiple years now. He has negative value until he decides to put in the work necessary to be an asset in the NHL.
Nuxfanabroad
& detractors might say: "Well Dubas promised to WN, this & that, etc..." Dubas would just have to say in his presser, "Yeah, I promised WN he'd stay put..but he promised me he'd perform commensurate to salary. Deal with it." Not his biggest fan..but I think it's true he has a lot of skill. Bet a franchise like Canes would like him, especially locked-in paying only 5 mill per yr. It's prob better than Aho, after he ran to another contract, pen in hand.

Did Colorado hold Sakic signing an offersheet against him? Hell, did we hold it against Ohlund? It's a business and he knew Carolina would likely match anyway. At the end of the day, with how Mtl structured this first yr of pay-out, should be interesting to watch the follow-up.

If Carolina doesn't match here, they're moving. For the long-term health of their franchise getting butts into the seat and convincing their fans they're serious about being competitive, they have to match. Yeah KH, I was thinking back to that time too. Philly had financial-clout, like Mtl; Canes are rather comparable to how Nash was, back then at least. After Poile had let Suter slip away, he was in quite the jam. Ironic when you consider the number of deals between these two clubs. One thing I will say on Bergevin..he's rather unpredictable with his moves.
