Now that the 2019 draft has come and gone, I think it's time to look ahead to next year. The 2020 draft is being compared to the 2003 draft early on in terms of quality and depth, With Lafrenière leading the way.

This year's class is very intriguing at the top end. For me personally I'm excited to see how Lundell tracks throughout this year. He played almost his entire draft -1 year in Liiga, something Kakko wasn't able to do. Obviously Lafreniere and Byfield will be exciting as well.

Pods will be second best to whomever we draft first in the 2020 draft.  (With our second round pick, of course) 

 

Seriously though.  What is the difference between Pods and Lafreniere?  Very similar players, except Pods is mean too.

Lafreniere has been tracking closer to Crosby and McDavid than Podkolzin.

I don’t see McDavid or Crosby in Lafreniere.  He’s clearly a very good young player, but he doesn’t skate anywhere near to those two.  He’s more of a straight ahead power forward type.  I like that in him, but I don’t think he’s going to be a dynamic player at all.

I kinda agree with that assessment but Lafrieniere is definitely going to be a dynamic player. He's extremely talented, that cannot be argued.

I guess dynamic in a different way than McDavid or Crosby.  Those guys flay with the puck all over the ice.  I see Lafreniere being more dynamic inside the blue line, and down low.  He’s very good for sure, but not the same type of player as McDavid or Crosby.  I read a comparison to Gilbert Perrault too.  Again, not at all a good comparison.  As an old time comparison I’d say Frank Mahovalic.
