Dumba is not available.

Minnesota had more points than Vancouver.  They have every intention of making the playoffs.  They think Dumba is going to be a huge factor.  Fenton talked so often of how much they missed him last season.

Also their future core is just as young as the Canucks' core.  He's a 24 year old RHD who they think is only going to get better.  He fits their timeline perfectly.

Every team in the NHL has intentions of making the playoffs. Whether or not it's an attainable goal is yet to be seen. It's clear we have serious intentions of making the playoffs this year as we have brought in Myers, Miller and Benn.

Who on their current roster would be a part of their "future" core aside from Dumba? I see lots of veteran players (Stall, Koivu, Parise, Suter, Zuccarello). All of those players are 30+ in age; makes me wonder t

Young players, Erikson Ek, Fiala and Greenway may have promise but are no world beaters when it comes to their present impact in the NHL. As prospects, they should progress given more experience and opportunity.  They are an old team at the moment who don't have much 'youth' throughout their lineup, just sprinkled.

Just cause they may not want to move Dumba at the present, doesn't mean he cannot become available should their season turn disastrous. Of all their players, he would fetch them the best return. Price would be steep, no doubt.

*Any player can be moved. Just depends on the motivations behind the seller and buyer.

In any case, it was just an example, as was Pesce. Canucks still need help on D. Benning's signings this off season should help in this regard but we are still lacking young impact Dmen. Edler is our best one and is 33. As time goes one, hopefully Hughes and Juolevi can live up to expectations or even surpass them.

This is the reason why he is not available.  They are an ageing team that needs youth - not trade them away.

They are trying to transition to their new core and get younger/faster.  Dumba is a key part of their future.  They don't plan on starting over.   It's the vets on the way out - not the youth.  They want mentorship and competition to help that new young core take over - they aren't ready yet.

They've already identified their young core at F with both Fenton and owner Leopold listing Fiala, Donato, Kunin, Greenway, Eriksson Ek and Kaprisov.  On D they have Dumba and Johansson.  Obviously Boldy gets added to that group.

Leopold had a video message to season ticket holders explaining that their moves makes them a "better and more ambitious team" - 'so that we understand this is not a rebuild.  Look at our team we are ready to play now.  We are building on the fly'.  It's on the Wild's youtube page.

Zuccarello by the way said he signed because he thinks they can be a playoff teams and anything can then happen.

Minnesota has one of the best top-4 in the league.  Last year Dumba was injured early and they believe it's a key reason they struggled.  Fenton talked about how it affected their transition game.  Leopold says the only good thing is that he will be back healthy this coming season.

They are one of the best defensive teams in the league - they are the team that allowed the least shots from the inner slot and were tied-6th in shots against.  Their Ds can also produce - with everyone healthy they had 200pts a season ago with league average production from the blue line being some 162pts.

Very insightful. Thanks for the info. Now I see what you were getting at when you mentioned Dumba is perfect for their timeline.

Cheers!
