Popular Post Kanukfanatic
**title was modified as I was advised it did not fit with the actual topic very well** I put the below info in the MacEwen thread as I re read a bunch of the last pages on MacEwen's thread. MacEwen progressed very nicely in the Q and then in a two year span developed quite well in the AHL. JB was said to be looking to get another top 6 winger but that plan kinda fell off after the Luongo re capture penalty. So how about the following (as I put in MacEwen's thread): MacEwen's first year in Utica he got 33 points in 66 games in 2017/18. His next year in Utica he got 52 points in 69 in 2018/19. Maybe JB does not need to get another top 6 forward. How about we slot MacEwen on the 2nd line with Pearson and Horvat. I would rather that than putting him in some plug 4th line role when he comes up. This all assumes he does very well at camp. JT Miller Petey Boeser Pearson Horvat MacEwen Roussel Sutter Virtanen Motte Beagle Leivo That is a beefy line up. We would have added two big guys up front in Miller at 218 and MacEwen at 211. Then two more big guys on the back in Myers at 230 and Benn at 205. Talk about going from a soft small team to a big team in one summer. None of these guys are Reaves but they have size and pushback. Team toughness ftw. In MacEwen's last year in the Q he had 74 points and he showed a big improvement in scoring in just his second year at Utica. It seems he could continue to develop at a strong pace. I would love for JB and TG to give him a try up front to start the year. Let Gaudette start the year in Utica and get some points and his offense going strong before Sutter gets moved and Gaudette comes up. Edit: Alternatively if you don't like putting him up with Horvat right away then put Virtanen with Horvat and start MacEwen with Roussel / Sutter on the 3rd line and let him get some NHL experience. Roussel is out till Xmas so whomever fills his spot. Popular Post Johnny Torts
Personally if we are having this conversation, bite the bullet, sell hard on LE (can barely spell his name ffs), trade Sutter for what value may be left and sign Ferland while he's available. MacEwen looks good but at this point we would still be gambling/rolling the dice on an unproven player, giving him a top 6 role right away, while we are trying to make the playoffs. 10

I am inclined to agree with this stance tbh. If it costs something to get rid of LE, it might be worth it just based on what they can use that cap to replace him with. A different way to look at it is if the sweetener asset to move LE is something a reasonable GM would trade for the player he is signing with the cap, then you make those moves all day every day. No man I said LE I think you kinda misread. Im talking about biting the bullet (salary ret./asset) to sell LE who BY THE WAY is not just a contract. He would be playing for the given team unlike Marleau. I wasn't talking about Bobby Edited July 6, 2019 by Johnny Torts Loui Eriksson 1
naslund.is.king
Didnt we get one in JT?
MeanSeanBean
Seems like a bad idea to throw him in the top 6 when he has minimal NHL experience and doesn't even project to be a top 6 forward in the first place. Would rather we set him up for success instead of Edmontoning him 1

Popular Post -AJ-
Honestly, if that penalty made Benning say no to another top 6 forward, then I have even more faith in him. At this point, I'm wary of adding more big deals to our plate. We will have an incredible cap crunch hit us in two years when EP and Hughes need to be re-signed and I'd really like to avoid signing any more long-term deals so we can handle that better than Dubas is having to right now. 2 2
Popular Post kenhodgejr
MacEwen should be brought in to play 4th line minutes and be moved up as he earns his ice time. Not fair to other guys on the team to start him on the second line. Horvat needs a playmaker and hopefully the Baertchi's brain injury has subsided and he will be able to play productive hockey again. Pearsons Horvat Baertchi Could be ok until better options arrive from our prospects. 3

Personally I have no interest in keeping goldy. He was given lots of opportunity and yet he continues to play a weak and soft game. Schaller can be waived for all I care - he played like crap. Loui - doubt it would happen but try and trade him. If not, do what Alf keeps saying and send him to ride buses in Utica. Baer is the only one I think could stay but his health concerns are a major issue. If we only get him for half a season then move on from him to. Just my opinion of course. Honestly, if Baertschi is healthy and Pearson is his old self, that 2nd line is probably better than most 2nd lines in the league. You've got two 40-45 point wingers and 55-65 point centre. 3 2

Devron
Whoever wins the job come fall will be there to start. Honestly there’s a few candidates that would probably do just fine. Having JT and Pearson now makes a huge difference. You could sneak Leivo, Virtanen, Bear and the line will be fine. I really don’t think we need to do anything drastic. Love MacEwen but he’s a bottom six forward. Most players in the NHL have had good offensive numbers in Junior, Ahl etc
Popular Post BeefcakeBo
People are lowkey underrating Baertschi. If he comes into camp recovered from his concussion then he's easily a solid second line winger imo. When he was healthy this last year he certainly was playing at that level. He was on pace for 20+ goals and 40-50 points if he had a full 82 games. 2

We will have alot of contracts that are off the books so it is timed nicely. Sutter, Pearson and Baer is about 11.5 off the books. Edler and Benn equal 8 off the books. And I assume Tanev will either get traded or wont be resigned after this year which is another 4.5 off the books so Im not too worried with our cap space. Popular Post DeNiro
Getting a top 6 forward added always came down to shipping out Eriksson or Sutter regardless of the Luongo penalty. Until that happens the roster is what it is. Edited July 6, 2019 by DeNiro 1 4
MattJVD
SN650 and NHL Network radio (Sirius/XM) have said that Benning was aware of Luongo's intention to retire months before it happened. He went into the offseason knowing he had to have room for the penalty.

There are probably still teams that are looking for skilled scoring wingers. He might not return much but he clears cap space.
