Really? Ours are better than theirs because they are ours and not theirs, only ours are better than anyone elses :D

Theirs would be better if they played hard defensively.  I remember Scotty Bowman telling Yzerman that to win a Cup Stevie needed to focus on the defensive side of the puck first.  The Wings almost traded Yzerman at that time.  But Stevie learned, and changed his game from being selfish to team first.  Will McDavid and Draisatl do that?  I’m glad our top players don’t need to be told to play defensively.  For our guys it’s built into their characters.

Cant you see the positives?  We are getting a really good team!

Wrong. Character and team chemistry is very important

Again, "family values" and character are not the same thing. A guy can be an absolute consummate leader & locker room saviour and still cheat on his wife on the road 5 times a month. They have absolutely no correlation.

Semantics.  Guess it says a lot about you though.

Planning for the expansion draft should take place now, just in figuring out the number of contracts coming off the books, the number that are mandated to be protected and what having cap space could "buy" in the way of picks and players. If planned properly the "others" parts are prepared for, "Plan B" then "Plan C". If the goalie gets hurt there should be another one.

Planning also takes into account how to beat other teams and to do that management has to examine other teams, estimate strengths and weaknesses, watch video, PLAN how to win.

To get the correct pieces things like past injuries shold be taken into account, it is not just the optimum that a player brings on his best day but also what is the worst that could be expected of that player, again Eriksson, the best would be he scores 30+ goals and worst for him is, he is a pretty good checker and smart player not likely to hurt the team, but not worth 6 mil. So the good and the bad.

Ferland has had multiple concussions, posters think he will fight, his last fight Backes rocked him and he was on and off the rest of the season with "an upper body injury" and "if he feels good enough". While not a absolute that he will get another, although they are easier each time with a bigger effect, do you think they should take this into account? That would be "planning" ahead or jsut be surprised if it happens. More probable for him because of his history that merely breaking a knee.

This team cannot take advantage of anything because they have put it into a corner, no cap, no players others want, not enough to sign all the players, only draft picks to give up, the future player for the team. As Boston and the Rangers have shown, 3 1rst in one year is like three years of rebuilding, JB just gave Tampa a rebuild, top ten pick.

Firstly please provide your plan and why based on your plan Benning has no plan - in other words prove your point as you have not provided anything to support your critique.

Secondly here are Ferlands games played - not missed much for a guy that plays all out.  Games missed are expected for most players especially ones that play a physical style.  70+ games per season is more than acceptable.

Thirdly if you don't believe that the cupboards are far from bare - quality prospects, that this team has legitimate high quality young players and is built for success now we aren't seeing the same team.

Your negativity is baseless and time wasting.

What an incredibly stupid way to frame this. Who cares if a guy has the worst "family values" and is a total dirtbag (as long as everything's legal...), if they perform on the ice, that's what matters.

Obviously, everyone other than you cares about that. ;)

What? Personal attacks are allowed here now?

There's actually a huge back story behind Ferland and his rise to professional hockey. The guy went through a tonne of %$ to get where he is, and his mom had to literally scratch and claw to make enough money to get him through each level of hockey growing up. Not unlike a lot of kids in hockey, but his story is worth reading up on.
So yeah, I think values in life play a huge role here. I don't think there's anything bizarre about extolling the virtues about a "good Canadian kid"

I never said anything about Ferland not being a character guy. I think he is absolutely a character guy and a great addition. And if Zepp would have said "Ferland's a character guy and character guys are important for a team" I wouldn't have said a word, but to stress that a player must have family values, is bizarre.

The big picture for this team is becoming abundantly clear. JB has been adding players with high compete level and the ability to play whatever game gets thrown at us. Speed, toughness, skill? Those who never experienced the team in the nineties are in for a treat.

Players who do not currently fit this mode? Baertchi, Goldy and Ericksson. I suspect they will be moved some time soon as did other players who did not fit this mold.

Good times are ahead. :towel:

Many of the most legendary athletes & champions of all time wouldn't have what someone would consider great "family values"...

Prove it. There will be some "bad apples" but that's not typically the majority of them.
