-Vintage Canuck-
Quote The city of Calgary has reached a tentative deal with the Flames for a new arena to replace the Scotiabank Saddledome, reports Meghan Potkins of the Calgary Herald. City council members will discuss the proposed agreement on Monday behind closed doors. "Discussions are productive but they're not complete," councilor Jeff Davison said earlier in July, according to Potkins. "We can't give an exact date as to when we'll be back with any information (but) I'm confident if we do bring a plan back, that the public will support it." The projected cost of the new building will be between $550 million and $600 million, and the proposed arena will seat 18,000 along with retail space, a community rink, and 40,000 square feet of underground parking. The Saddledome opened in 1983 and has hosted the Flames since. https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/1799902 1

Popular Post Kragar
This just in: In keeping with the cowboy theme exhibited by the Saddledome, the new arena will be shaped like a cowpie. This will allow for greater seating capacity and creative sight-lines, while still having a distinct, Calgary-appropriate impact on the skyline. 11
Tre Mac
Will this make Rogers Arena the oldest hockey rink (among NHL cities) in Canada?

Nucker 67
The Maxi Dome is a dump. I saw a game there once and had some nose bleed seats, but these are no joke. Felt the burn climbing those stairs.

DrJockitch
I remember going to Olympic hockey games their in ‘88. Sucked then, sucks now. Stupid gimmick of upside dome makes for terrible sight lines.
Aardvark
No taxpayer money, please. Just because Edmonton was stupid and did that, I don't want other teams following suit. Because you know what's going to happen when our time comes.
HC20.0
Went to the Saddledome for a Hitmen game over Christmas. I was near the ice, and the sight lines were still pretty brutal. Inside it’s super cramped as well with narrow hallways. This is long overdue.

Clearly tax payer money, otherwise why would a deal need to be made. I still think it should be illegal to use tax payer dollars for stadiums for professional sports franchises. That being said, Calgary deserves it as much as anyone. They really do support the Flames.
