From transcending moments in the playoffs; to everlasting glory of regular season success. I genuinely couldn't be more proud to wake up every day and call this the team I support. The Vancouver Canucks have no "official" cup wins.... but make no mistake... this fan base has had its fair share of iconic moments and a true abundance of things to be proud of. I've shared a couple of my own below and would love to hear some things fellow CDCers are proud of... I've left out some obvious ones, so hopefully we get some good posts that highlight them! The fact that we ARE, the most influential team in the history of sports. Despite having no playoff championships - the team managed to influence more teams than any other club when Roger invented towel power. That moment has enhanced the "fan experience" for literally billions of sports fans around the world. This Vancouver Ritual is being duplicated in arenas of countless sports: Soccer, Football, Baseball, etc.., You name it! Heck... There's a good chance people are waving towels at a sporting event somewhere on the planet right now. Further on our influence... let's not forget that our beautiful province invented the "Luuu"... which again, how many thousands of fans copy it in other arenas? Boston "Tuuuu"ing... Minny "Duuu"ing... etc.I know the Lions invented Luuuing but that only happened a few times a game as Passaglia only took so many kicks per game. Doing it for a goalie that was getting 30+ Luuuu's a game truly made it a ritual that once again influenced many other teams fans to copy us and truly cement our legacy as the most influential team in all sports. That our 2 legends combined for the most "highly skilled goal" in the history of sports... You probably thought to yourself... there's no way his next one could also be covering "all sports" but it is... This moment is probably the most underrated in the history of sports. The combination of elite skill that went into this play has never been matched in sports. There has been amazing catches by OBJ, great shots by NBA players, epic world cup goals, etc etc... but since the universe has been around, there's never been more of a combination of skill involved in a single goal. Here is said moment and all that went into it which qualify what I've said1) Henrik Sedin uses a skill not needed in any other sport and ties up his man to win the face off...2) Burrows wins the battle and gets the puck to Hoff who directs it back to Henrik Sedin who has just finished fighting off his centerman and is approached by a defender perfectly and has to make an IMPOSSIBLE play... 3) Henrik Sedin makes an impossible blind pass THROUGH the legs... as he's been covered perfectly by the flames D 4) Daniel gracefully handles the pass that he shouldn't have even seen coming 5) Next Daniel Sedin is now pokechecked by one of the greatest goalies to ever live... Vezina and Jennings winner... 6) Then Daniel pulls off the final act of "impossible" as he puts the puck through his own legs to avoid the pokecheck and roof the puck for what is the most highly skilled goal in the history of sports. Popular Post -DLC- Posted August 9, 2019 Popular Post Share Posted August 9, 2019 I'm really proud of the resilience of the fanbase, that's hung in over the years despite not reaching that ultimate goal yet. I'm proud of the team character and integrity...I feel it's always been. And when there are issues with players, I feel the team handles it well. The initiatives and traditions started here have been good ones. I'm proud that, despite the incessant slamming from the league and media, that we hold our heads high as a fanbase and team and don't let it get to us. We know who/what we are. I'm proud of the leaders we've had over the years....all class. I'm super proud of our forums and all y'all. Hank then skated around....talked to his brother for a bit. Another Canuck player joined in the conversation & the refs said "alright....break it up or I'll call a delay of game penalty". After a few seconds, Hank just went back to the faceoff circle to take the faceoff. The head official looked at Hank & said.."didn't I just waive you out?". Hank just pointed at Daniel. The ref had a confused look on his face....looked towards the other officials (but they just shrugged their shoulders). Ref just then dropped the puck (where Hank won the faceoff). Team loyalty. And I always feel happy when I watchn the games, and they show the night time overhead camera shot of BC Place and Rogers, or the waterfront. Nuxfanabroad Posted August 9, 2019 Share Posted August 9, 2019 Nice one Apollo. Aren't we the first sports franchise to start an initiative like Canuck Place? Think I read that somewheres? For giving back to the community, I'd suggest this great franchise has almost always been at the forefront. For most of our history we've been locally owned by people who care about the Vancouver region. That's also represented by how JB targets prospect-youth with traits of admirable, determined, leadership. I've pretty much always been proud of the men who've donned our jersey, with an exception of that dark period(& SOME players) in the late 90's..US owner was prob just a lousy hand to play out. 3 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
