Five Most Poorly Managed Teams(Edm, Ott & 3 more)

Rate this topic

Here's hoping this doesn't descend into an argument-thread(like our world needs That!). Figure this might lend itself to some decent hockey talk. Part 1, pls list the 5 teams(assuming Edm & OTT) you believe have been managed the worst since 2016 draft.

*Bonus* 3 worst moves(standing alone) that have been made in that time period.

Edmonton

Ottawa

San Jose

Edmonton and Ottawa are self explanatory.

San Jose has an old team, who just re-signed Karlsson while losing probably their most impact forward (who was also getting old) - and looking more and more like they're going to need to sign Marleau and Thornton at a combined age of 80 to ice a team.

Their window has shut, and they're playing like it hasn't.

Worst three moves:

Neal for Lucic. Both teams lose, badly. It's neat how that works. I'm so happy it happened to Calgary and Edmonton.

Tavares for $infinity. The leafs window opened and closed last year on that move. They won't get it done in the playoffs, their back end is not strong enough. It basically guaranteed Matthews is gonna bolt, because they can't afford the team AND him. No Matthews, no Leafs. Marner is going to take up whatever is left.

Karlsson re-signing: I was on board with a "throw all the money at Karlsson" - until I saw just how broken he is. Playing 30 minutes a night in Ottawa getting mushed, he's on his way downhill fast I think. He might very well have a good couple years, but it's going to look like a worse Seabrook contract sooner rather than later.

Agreed Gents. Was thinking should just make this 5 worst managed teams(assuming everyone has OTT & Edmunchuk, top-2)

Edmonton

- Hall for a top 3 defencemen

- Eberle for eventually Gagner

- Ruining the 1st three development years of Puljijarvi

Pittsburgh

- Winning back to back cups then deciding speed and great defence wasn’t the reason for their success... Reeves for a 1st is a major head scratcher.

- Gudbranson

- Johnson

Minnesota

- Paul Fenton, and everything he did

- Hiring Paul Fenton

- Not firing Paul Fenton after the El Niño trade

Edit: didn’t even mention wasting McDavid

- Duchene to Ottawa disaster

- When Vegas sent nice picks to Det for flop, Tatar(Wings got a 1st, 2nd & a 3rd!!!)

- Hall for Larsson

^These three stand out as pretty stinky. Imagine how haters would howl if JB committed such glaring, ghastly gaffes?!

Edmonton

Ottawa

Buffalo

Edit** Adding in

The Islanders

The Wild

The Isles made or fell in to some absolutely amazing trades but those contracts...wtf come on Ladd?

The Wild basically gave up on some solid talent and are spinning their wheels in mediocrity

1 & 2 are the Oilers and Senators, not really sure who takes the top spot at the moment. Probably the Oil due to their experience at the top of this list.

3. San Jose

4. Minny

5. Maybe LA? Phaneuf, Kovalchuk...

hate to disagree but Penguins sending Pearson to Vancouver was a great move not seeing the negatives here ;)

Edmonton, Ottawa, Columbus/Winnipeg

Its a toss up between Columbus and Winnipeg but at the end of the day I think Columbus is worse off then the Jets as the Jets still have a lot of good talent where as Columbus has Foligno to complain about all the star players leaving ;)

Edmonton - Not an NHL team

Ottawa - Ownership makes mgmt's job impossible

Toronto- Nylander extension while icing a terrible defense and a 10 ply team

Minnesota - Just a bizarre set of trades

Buffalo - Not sure what they're doing there; just trading assets for multiple RD who can't play defense.

Honorable mention - Washington.  How the hell do you let Trotz go after he finally wins you a Stanley Cup?

Edmonton, Ottawa, Florida, Los Angeles and Arizona.

Florida firing Gerard Gallant was a jaw dropper as was the Coyotes naming Chayka at 26 years old as a general manager.

Edmonton's a tire fire, in the far east Ottawa is a dumpster fire.

The Kings hiring Desjardins, signing Kovalchuk so Desjardin can bench him.

Laffs

- wrap 40 mill of cap up in 4 offensive pieces?!(IF Marner can ever get signed)

- Marleau stupidity(why 3 yrs, not a 2 yr?) forces them to absolutely squander a 1st to an eastern rival

- Brutal D-core who all become FA's at the same second

- Billion $ entity puts an untried, gullible kid in charge?

- All they seem to do is use financial wherewithal to take on others' useless(LTIR) contracts. So creative!

Inexplicable arrogance from a fanbase that's won a single PO series in the past two decades. Won't mind watching this overhyped outfit crash like new Boeing sales!
