Did you see all the injuries last few seasons / a team that was still competitive / not far off anyway? Did you see all the work / changes this summer? You don't have to like everything, but you can at least give credit where credit is due! If you can’t see where this team is actually at, then I can’t help you.

AV.
Short-sighted move but he's back for now and I wish him luck that he can finally get the team in the playoffs.
Popular Post Dixon Ward
I think that people forget that picks are lottery tickets, they don't always pay off. At some point you need some solid nhl players to win some games. EP's easy transition to and NHL start, Bo and Boeser's development, and Hughes seeming readiness to play with the big boys has moved the rebuild up a year or two. This should be great news for fans, but some choose to wallow in the rebuild. We have 4 genuine top 6 guys for the foreseeable future. Baertschi, Pearson, Ferland, and even Goldobin have shown ability to play top 6 as well and will have a healthy competition in camp. Our bottom 6 is pretty solid. Our d core is solidified for a couple of years. Our goaltending is solid all the way down the pipeline. On top of that we have a bunch of top prospects that look like legit nhlers. A pick next year or the following is not worth Miller who is a legit nhl top 6 ready to play with Bo and Elias who are ready to go. The team is better right now than it has been in years. JB has filled in the top lines, the bottom lines, the d, and the crease. He has created a much better age balance and built a team that is ready to start the climb with top quality re-inforcements on the way. If Gaudette, Madden and Hoglander didn't look so much like 1st round picks, they wouldn't trade a 1st. If Hughes, OJ, and Woo didn't look like legit NHLers, they wouldn't trade a 1st. If Podkolzin, Hughes and EP didn't drop to them, they wouldn't trade a 1st. The team is faster, bigger, more skilled than in 7 years. There are solid vets and exciting young players. Gaudette, OJ, Podkolzin, Hoglander, Madden, Rathbone, Woo, Tryamkin, Brisebois, Lind, Rafferty, and Dipietro will all likely play in the nhl, so we are set for awhile. If this isn't enough for people then nothing would be. 2 2 2
Devron
JB has done a great job over the past couple years but I also didn’t expect this. I had really thought that ownership was waiting to see if he was going to make the playoffs this year. I feel more confident then ever that the 2 are on the same page. It’s nice to see. I’m sure there’s still pressure to make it this year and honestly it would be nice to get that draft pick out of the way this season. Congrats JB! Considering we were in playoff contention until the last few weeks when all the injuries caught up yes, we could have been a playoff team if we had better depth, and Benning addressed that this summer. You’d really have to be next level dense to not see that. 2

5nothincanucksohno
Wow, gonna be fun watching twitter burn!!! This is the right move and regardless of the pessimists, Benning deserves a couple more years to see things through (consistency is important at this point and Benning has shown an ability to learn and/or move on from his mistakes). I hope they bring in someone who can deal with negotiations, etc. to help navigate the next five years financially. They are ok with respect to the Cap but need to be careful. He also wants to rebuilt / get high draft picks, but not miss playoffs for a few years. Some people are daft!!
BlastPast
Why are there people who act as though the team did EVERYTHING in their power to be as good as they possibly could over the last 4 years ? I can think of a bunch of things they could have undertaken that would have made the record more impressive but would have compromised the future. I don't think the execution has been flawless (only a fool would expect it to be) but you would have to be a real glass-half-empty kind of guy not to see significant future building over that time (yes I realize picking high aids that objective). 3
GB5
This is great news. This team has a better prospect pool than it ever has before and the team is looking to be trending upwards. 1

Those people need a reality check. 1

Travis Green is making $1M USD this season and next. Edited August 16, 2019 by fecklund
