me I would suggest to Loui that the team and him mutually agree to terminate his contract and he can go play any where he wants!!!

He gets off the books and is free

this has happened before in the league so why not do it???

If he does not want that, then you do what you can so he is gone, minors or whatever

Because if you terminate a contract, you can't play in the NHL for the length of that contract.

The best case scenario or Loui would be for him to play in the NHL this year and hopefully play up his value to the point that the last 2 years (5 mil. total after his next bonus is paid) of his deal become easier/cheaper to move. Hard for him to do this in the AHL;  playing there would just make it more immovable but the geniuses clamoring for him to be demoted don't consider this.

Yup, the team can do that.  But will they is the question.  It's up to TG, and JB.

I know and to be fair Loui has PKed good, but that is it

we will see to me I would send him down to teach the younger players which would be a win win

who knows maybe he will end up going back to europe and then we can terminate his contract

From a canuck standpoint why would we do that? If he fails to report we make out like bandits.

because JB makes sure he treats the players like human beings, not just assets.  That's why he sent Gags to the Marlies and not the Comets.

He plays like a guy who in 3 years has scored 32 times and hit 21 times... those are AHL stats.

If a guy wanted to be concerned about his salary, he could say that to-date we paid:

$562,500.oo per goal and $857,142.oo per hit.

Actually those figures are wrong because he picked up his $4m signing bonus a couple of months ago as prepayment for his fine work this season.

So it’s $687,500.oo per goal and $1,047,619.oo per hit.

Id say, “privileged player” just about sums it up.

and to those thinking a 4th line role would be great for LE, give your head a shake..  we could only be so lucky that he lines up across from Ryan Reaves and his heated breath puts Loui on LTI .

... 100 bucks says phantom injuries and a great doctor try to save Eriksson from disgrace and embarrassment.

So these are the new criteria for gauging worth to the team?

On that basis, you must think QH is trash.   Zero goals and 1 hit in 5 games, for the price of his signing bonus and 1st year ELC salary

Stupid basis on which to judge value

option two stick him in the minors for the remaining time of his contract

can't buy him out would cost more so buh bye loui!

sticking him in the minors means a complete write off.  Keeping him in Van means they can try and up his value and see if they can get someone to take him.  He certainly hasn't been outplayed by anyone he's competing with for a spot

^^ Well here’s Stupid calling someone Stupid..

Eriksson has played 196 games with us..

(13 year career/ 921 games)

And Q Hughes has played 5.

What are your expectations from a 6yr 6m per contract,  vs an ELC?

All of you saying Gaudette is ' for sure utica bound ' are in for a big surprise. The kid has played amazing so far, and if he keeps it up and doesn't slow down, he will have a lock on the opening night roster.

It's a bit curious all the run they're giving Gaudette, knowing we'd need to make hard decisions elsewhere.  Perhaps they are confident they can move a body or two before the start of the season, or perhaps they get Goldobin through waivers which increases his trade value.  Really doubt Sutter is on the block as Gaudette if he's kept up will likely play the wing.

Get Goldy through waivers, then package him up with Eriksson and waivers-clear Sautner and call it a day.

are you being serious???? he is worth nothing with his contract, and even without it he might get a deal worth 1 mill at most

No, you miss understood on Motte

My question was, If we move/waive Eriksson would Motte do just as good of a job

because if the answer is yes

I move out Eriksson, way before Goldobin

why shake something that does have to be?

I am lukewarm on Goldobin

But as much as Eriksson can play...….I want him gone

So, wave Eriksson if Motte can play his spot

With the departure of Granny,  Motte and Eriksson are the 2 forwards with most PK time.  Motte already plays more pk time than Loui, so the real question is " who will replace LE's pk shifts"

Leivo, Pearson, Miller and Ferland all had miniscule time killing penalties last season with their respective clubs, and the 2 most used after Granny, Motte and LE were Schaller and Roussel.  So do you keep LE around at least until Roussel gets back?

Hey, I didnt call you stupid - I have followed many of your posts since I started reading, then participating on these boards and find you to be knowledgeable and insightful.

I was decrying the argument that there was correlation between dollar value of a contract and goals and hits.

this is why you train others as it is preseason

I have said that is the only part of his game that seems decent but does not mean another player can't take that spot and do a good job

one decent thing is not a reason to keep a player

Cheers Google, and my apologies, I may have read your quote wrong.

I just find any argument to keep a player who is outperformed by others on so many other levels.. especially if they have youth and potential on their side.

Motte is an excellent pk’r, Bartschi when healthy eats mins like the Cookie Monster, Leivo got many chances short handed last season too.. their are others who need that opportunity,. the same one that Eriksson is displacing them from.

We have lots of prospects ready to turn the corner on the upside, where I see LE in a tail spin.

I also think LE was displace by our acquisitions this Summer.. we have so much to choose from.

To keep him for a pk specialist just seems redundant.

I agree, but it's not going so well for Gaudette (as a potential Sutter replacement (he was the goat on one of LA's pp goals when he left his man to double team across the rink, only for his man to score.  But everyone starts somewhere.  I am sure Loui wasn't born a skilled penalty killer, that's why we have exhibition games, but I haven't seen anyone step up to the plate.  I was hoping for Jake (remembering the Bure - Courtnall years where PK speed absolutely deterred the opposition forwards from crossing the blue line at times)  but Green doesn't seem interested in trying that (although he did when coaching in Utuca)

So who is auditioning for Loui's spot on the PK?
