I am hesitant to move Pearson away from Bo after the chemistry they had but If that line can click I can get behind it. It would make for a top 9 with a lot of options. Rather keep Sven around than the other names rumored to be shopped.

Did you see Pearson with Sutter? They looked great, what a 3rd line.

And Miller with Horvat was a treat to watch...think that’s going to be a hard pair to play against - just have to wait and see who else gets the juicy assignments with those two and EP and Boeser...

I'd like to see him after a couple years with a top quality goalie coach, but tbh I would be surprised if he became an nhl starter.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he became an NHL starter. It seems like he has the mental side of the game locked in, been to big moment games, played clutch, while he was in Windsor he was their best player. He’s very athletic which helps him make up for his size, it might take some time at the start of his Pro career because he is going to have to work a little harder than a larger goalie would. If he has a good IQ and really focuses on where he is in the net we could probably see him in the NHL in two years.

My stupid random question of the day:

Why would the Canucks wait to cut some players? Would it be better to cut some now to "sneak" them down to the AHL? Maybe the Bulldog or Motte?

Motte's not going anywhere IMO. Doubt Biega is either.

Sure. Don't care what the names are. Insert player xyz.

Side question: Do the Canucks start with 8 d?

They waived Biega last year and started with 7 Ds.

What a wonderful schlacking of the Oilers. Gaudette making it difficult to cut him. Eriksson showing some of what he used to be. I have Leivo slowly being pushed out as other guys do well.

Baertschi - Horvat - Miller

Ferland - Pettersson - Boeser

Pearson - Sutter - Eriksson

Motte - Beagle - Virtanen

Gaudette

That leavs out Leivo, Goldobin, Schaller. Tough decisions coming.

I have Petey, Bo, Brock, Ferland, Miller, Sutter, and Beagle as sure locks in the opening roster.

How do you rank the rest of the forwards?

I have:

1) Baertschi

2) Virtanen

3) Goldobin

4) Gaudette

5) Eriksson

6) Pearson

7) Leivo

8) Motte

9) Schaller

Ferland - Petey - Brock

Miller - Bo - Baertschi

Eriksson - Sutter - Gaudette

Virtanen - Beagle - Goldobin

Pearson

Don’t see Leivo cracking the roster

What about when Roussel returns?

Thoughts?

That's a pretty big assumption. He's likely still good enough to play in the NHL...it just might not be here, given our improved depth.

My guess is that he's at least got the 13th F spot until Roussel's back. After that though, he's in a very precarious position without further injuries or trades. With everyone healthy is likely our 14th best F and that's without any of Goldy, Gaudette, Bailey, MacEwan etc outplaying him and pushing him even further down the depth chart.

Gaudette 3rd star tonight  - big assumption?

Sending a guy down for NOT fulfilling the expectations of his contract - for THREE LONG YEARS I might add - isn't enough reason?

Nobody wants a guy on their team that has been giving you the 'shaft' for three years.

Backchecking and killing penalties isn't going to cut it anymore, we got guys that can/will do that for less money - this guy needs to produce offense - period!

3rd star tonight

Very interesting way to put this. I like it.

Horvat is a lock as-well of course. (Assume you missed him). I'd also add Pearson to the 'lock' category. So Pearson aside...

I'd rank them:

1) Baertschi

2) Virtanen

3) Leivo

----

4) Gaudette

5) Motte

6) Eriksson

7) Goldobin

8) Schaller

Top 3 also being 'locks' in my mind.

Gaudette may start lower in the depth chart than some of these other 4th line/depth guys, but he's got more in him. There's more to his game.

Motte & Eriksson (contract/history aside) can bring something on a 4th line. Schaller is a question mark, what can he be? Goldobin to me is a depth offensive player at this point. Don't see him 'getting it' and becoming a legit top 6er. His future seems uncertain to me.
