Seattle must choose a minimum of 20 players under contract for the 2021-22 regular season and those with an aggregate Expansion Draft value that is between 60-100 percent of the prior season's upper limit for the salary cap. Seattle cannot buy out players chosen in the Expansion Draft earlier than the summer following its first season.

The Seattle expansion draft is in June 2021.

That's 2 seasons away.  By that time LE is on the last year of his contract.  He might be selected, but I think Seattle will choose one of our Goalies (Markstrom/Demko) since we can only protect one of them.

Good point, but who knows if Vegas will target our goaltenders - there are plenty of other teams they might choose their goalies from. Unless Demko and Marky are both red hot and at the top of their potential, making them both rank among the top goalies of the expansion draft class. A scenario which is possible yet not extremely likely.

Especially considering we're a goalie graveyard lul ;)

seattle might take him.

Why would they when they can take someone who has a chance of actually being a useful hockey player?  We'd have to give up a first round to convince them to take him off our hands.

I would not mind letting Eriksson go for free via the waivers if there are no team interested in Eriksson even for a sweetener offers.  Chances are that the teams would claim him for free without losing their assets because other teams know that the Canucks don't have enough space for to absorb a cap hit and could stonewall the Canucks.   The Canucks got Eriksson for free through free agents and they suffer no loss in term of assets.  I wouldn't want to go with sweetener offer just to get rid of Eriksson when considering we got him for free 3 seasons ago and waste even more assets with sweetener offer..  If nobody claims him then the Canucks could send him to minors and help the farm team which is a plus.   If Eriksson ever decide to retire, it would save ton of cap space despite some bonus money remaining.

Would you take a 6 million dollar AHLer who whines about the coach, refuses to work hard, and is less likely to score than an incel in a nunnery?  There is zero chance any team takes LE off of waivers.  Marleau cost a 1st to get rid of and he is still an NHL player without any character issues.  I know Dumbass doesn't know what he's doing but even he's smart enough to try to see if anyone would take him for free.

Just stop talking about Eriksson already, seriously zero shred of truth in any of your Eriksson posts.

1. He IS an NHL player, just has a cap hit that is $3 million too high.

2. He consistently tests well in team fitness, is a solid defensive and pk player so you're wrong about not working hard.

3. His off season comments are nowhere near as bad as you make them sound and point to a frustrated player as opposed to character issues. Travis Green and Jim Benning have moved on, you should too.

Seriously your take on LE is so brutally bad I'd have to think you're an auditioning unpaid  intern for the Province or 1040.

1.  We have 15 forwards who are more capable of contributing than LE on the ice without his character issues and the surrounding distraction.  Other teams have around the same amount.  If his cap hit was only 3 million too high, Benning would already have shipped him out at 50% retained.

2.  He is reported as being one of the first guys off the ice in practice.  When you're not playing well, that's simply not good enough.  I'm also far from the only one who sees him as not putting in an honest effort:

Spoiler

3.  We'll agree to disagree here, as we've seen the same source article and you think it's acceptable, while I clearly don't.  When the coach keeps gifting him icetime while he clearly isn't earning it and publicly defending him, the garbage LE spewed is simply unacceptable.  Greener took some heat for his defense of Eriksson last year and the pylon repaid him by throwing him under the bus.  He is lucky he didn't get suspended without pay for his lack of professionalism.  LE should have kept his mouth shut, period.

Laughable take at best, heffy.

I love how someone who rages on about Eriksson having “character issues” can in turn call someone he doesn't even know and never even had a conversation with, “garbage”

Every encounter I and anyone else I've come across with has had nothing but positive experiences dealing with Eriksson. If he truly had character issues he wouldn't be as pleasant to deal with as he's been in my experience. And secondly Benning wouldn't have singed him after dealing with him in Boston.

These character issues are nothing but a figment of your imagination.

"It was like he was out there public skating"

"he wore his street clothes under his uniform to get out faster"

"I have not seen anyone less engaged in a game than Eriksson"

quotes from that vid

Character issues aside..  he offers nothing that a plug couldn’t..

Eriksson is past prime,  I would rather see Gaudette, MacEwan, even Boucher have the opportunity to rotate into his vacancy.

MacEwan especially, fast, 200ft game and hard into the grease.

Broke up at least 3 plays in the 3rd period on the back check.. got under DNurses skin and drew him away for Sutter to take Edlers pass for the goal.

Mack is a bigger presence, and harder worker than what I’ve seen out of Eriksson for 3 years.

Utica/ Retire/ Sweden..

Eriksson looks lost.. and that’s putting it mildly.

To give him any more of a chance to perform after 10 games will label him privileged,  and that is Not in the Teams Culture that Benning has created.

If you can not contribute, you do not play.

.. and lets stop with the “defensive specialist” default.. please.

This is the new NHL,. If your not performing at 31 years of age, there are retirement leagues in Russia and Sweden that will play you.

You simply needed an excuse to hate him. That's it. Plain and simple. It's really sad.

I never said “defensive specialist”, I said solid defensively, which he is. I also said he needs to start scoring. He has had a good start so far to the year which is good so A: if he can keep it up into the season maybe he ups his production or B: some other team can see value in acquiring him and maybe have a better fit.

Wadr Gaudette isn't quite their yet neither is MacEwen.

At the end of the day the hate LE is getting on here is beyond ridiculous. Their is zero reason to call him garbage or any other personal attacks.

Loui is not garbage.  He’s old.  He’s weak.  He’s lost his hands.  He can’t compete at the NHL level anymore.  It’s totally natural.  Guys age out if the league.  Loui has aged out.  Guys don’t magically improve in their mid 30’s.  He will retire before he’s sent to Utica.

I assume his retirement would not help us out though (another Luongo situation?).

This isn’t hate from me 73,.   It’s just me not getting caught up in the disillusionment, and reasoning that we have an overager in today’s market who is overpaid for his services and his NHL career is over.

We aren’t the only team in this situation...  But This player has already had 3 fantastic years of opportunity to keep his curve of production above the flat line he has ridden.

Save the ice time for a prospect who will develop and whose performance curve can rise above Erikssons numbers in a single season.

Nobody is going to give anything for Eriksson unless they are dealing with cap issues,. And even then we may have to sweeten the deal.

This is nothing but an older player who can not keep up with the evolution of youth , speed , and skill in the new NHL.. we owe Eriksson nothing for his services other than what he has been contractually paid.

ps. He looked gassed on the bench in the game I saw him in the other night,, he was looking back and forth to each end of the bench in bewilderment like he was lost.

Please, enlighten me who said Loui was one of the first guys of the ice in practise?

The poster on this forum stated that Loui was one of the first on the ice and last off the ice...

If LE retires, his cap hit disappears.  Frees up 6M.  That's why people are hoping he retires instead of riding the bus in Utica (if he gets waived and sent down).

Lol like I said before, it didn't take that long.... I had an excuse to hate him since his debut with the Canucks . You'd think things could have only gone up from there.. but nope!

How is this hate?

This player ( Eriksson) clearly has passed his prime and “best before” date.

The game has evolved passed his skating and skill set..  keeping him with the Canucks displaces a prospect or other player from developing or offering more .

His position was replaced by our acquisitions this past Summer.

This is called attrition, with a lesser paid player, this would not be an issue.

If Eriksson was making far less, this would not be an issue.

The opinions here that scrape up positive arguments for LE are trying to justify the 6 million cap space and humiliation for a player in his salary bracket being sent to the minors.

The era for 30 odd year old hockey player in the NHL is passing, unless you are an exceptional athlete of that age.

Is he being forced into retirement from the NHL because of the evolution in the game.. I think so.

Its the same cause and effect that has driven the Goon to extinction.
