He's a fantastic talent and he should adapt eventually, not ever #1 sets the league on fire in his first season. His size was always a concern, but everyone was saying, oh look at Kane, he’s small but can put up points. While true, Kane has the experience and skill to make up for the lack of size. Jack has skill and skating on his side but needs some experience first I think. Kakko seems to be adjusting better. I hope for Jack’s sake, that NJ doesn’t try and rush his development. Not every #1 pick can make the jump immediately, and needs to get pro experience first. The Devils are prone to rushing prospects though, like Hirschier. Hope it works out for him. logic Posted October 15, 2019 Share Posted October 15, 2019 I've been comparing this past draft to 2011, I see a lot of RNH in Hughes in the sense that they aren't ready to be first year NHLers, both small skilled playmaking centres, and that if they are rushed their ceiling will dramatically decrease, consensus #1 throughout the year. Yes, they play some exhibition games against the NCAA, but most of the points that Hughes racked up were against USHL competition. It will take him some time. Kid is a good player and will fond his groove eventually, but the size and pace of the NHL is much greater than he has seen before. I didn't like Jack Hughes going #1 for this reason, and felt that Kakko should be taken #1. Jack Hughes was more of a popularity pick IMO, rather than a smart hockey pick. Watching Hughes in those USNDT games, he was brilliant at times, but I had a feeling he would struggle against the big boys in the NHL. Kakko looks pretty good though. It'll take Jack some time, but hopefully not too long for his sake. Once the confidence goes... But, it's all about money, and making lots of it for the Devils org. Send Jack to the farm to develop? And then there is the physical capacity. Slick, smooth, polished skills on a body with electric agility, speed. Vision, anticipation, deception. Hall and Hischier have special chemistry and Hall says he hopes to play every game with him. Hischier is very responsible defensively - he's not sheltered and plays in every situation.
