Interesting matchup early in the season

Both teams are at similar points in their rebuilds or at least having simliar results a big difference is it has taken Benning 6 years and Detroit has been at going into their third.

Detroit should have had even worse cap issues with all those long term front loaded contracts that gave out, Zettrnberg, Fransen, Daysuk, Nielson, Daley, Ericsson but somehow they are able to get around almost 25 mil in salary and cap hits without much outrage from fans or the media. They have found ways to get extra draft picks.

4 games are nothing, every team is close to a playoff spot, every team is pretty healthy.

Two weeks into the season and the Canucks have had to sleep in a hotel once once.

This is a team the Canuck must dominate if they want to compete for a playoff spot, the Canucks are all healthy, rested and had time to prepare for this team.

Detroit has like just under 2 million in cap space, but bumped up to over 11 due to IR guys. They were one of the worst teams recently but yet right up against the cap because of said bad contracts. It's arguable that Benning has been "rebuilding" from the start of his tenure, but he has acquired picks during this time (and yes has traded some) for those that care to remember. Detroit picked Zadina over Hughes.

The difference in outrage from fans or the media is the different markets. Whether Canucks win or lose tonight has no bearing as to whether either team is building a team the right or wrong way. You simply play each game and you never know what the result may be (may a goalie is hot that night or a team is having and off night, etc) and that's why you play the games.

Detroit won their cup and went to the final in the late 2000’s....last kick at the can with Lidstrom...they’ve been rebuilding for close to ten years but good try...in fact they already giving up on some of the guys from the beginning of their rebuild in Tatar...cap wise a complete mess a few years ago

If Monahan is shut down, he isn’t effective at all. He only got those points because he get spoon fed the puck in front of the net by Johnny Gaudreau. In the past few seasons when he wasn’t with Gaudreau, his offence take a big dip. Gaudreau is the driver of that lines offence.

Another example one should look at is Lindholm. It is not coincidence Lindholm’s offence take a big leap and had a career year the moment he was put on a line with Gaudreau.

If you take Monahan off the Gaudreau line he is going to have a dip of at least 20 points.

Meanwhile, if you look at Bo Horvat. He has never had any consistent elite winger on his wing throughout his career. Last year defines how good he was. He played with 30 different pairs of wingers last season and still put up 61 points. The majority of his wingers are not your typical skilled wingers.

Monahan to me is one of the most overrated players in the league.

I'd give them the same ratings if I worked for EA:bigblush:

Whatever happened to Zetterberg?

Canucks can beat these guys. Go out and destroy them early. No mercy.

If they play a cutsie kind of safe game where they're satisfied winning 2-1, then they'll probably lose lol

LTIR - "retired" on LTIR - basically what all the old guys did - except Bobby Lu  :(

Sucks how we have to wait, and have our start be so delayed between games at the first. What's worse is that teams, including ours, don't need extra time off this time of year. In fact, especially for Boeser, players need to get initial games behind them to get fully conditioned.  So other teams are ahead of us in that regard.

And on the flip side, our games will now be condensed into the remaining schedule time.  Sure not by a lot, but who knows how that extra back to back or two will affect us come March or April?  Rant off.

Go Canucks Go!!!

On the positive side, Ferland could use the rest to get healthier and bring his full game that we're all waiting for...

This sounds like Elias to me.

Elias is a special player for sure... but honestly, Bure is a legend.  When people discuss best goal scorer in the history of the NHL, Bure's name is up there in the Top 5 or 10.
