There are now several players there that would have played on the Canucks of last year. The Comets will now be looking across the dressing room at other NHL-quality players that are not up with the big club. The competition did not end when pre-season ended; it is now permanent. Even if you are good, you may not be good enough for The Show. This is a very good sign of positive developments in the whole organization. Plus, I like the idea of the three last cuts playing together. That is, Gaud, Baer, and Goldie: a ready-made line to call on, all with NHL experience. Exactly, we have a lot of depth in all positions now, even without accounting for Roussel and Fantenberg coming back at some point. When the injury bug bites, we'll be ready. By all means, we need to move out some bodies (even with Gaudette in the minors) but it's not the worst thing for young players to be extra ready and get a tonne of development and play time in the minors. That's what good teams do. Once again I agree it just would suck to have to move out players who turn out to be top 6 forwards or top 4 d man and watch them light it up against us in the future. Its a catch 22, great to have good depth in the minors like you said and we've never had that before

Lots of teams would be interested in him and I really wouldn't blame him if he wanted to pursue a new destination.
Dats hockey
I wonder if this is a little conditioning stint because of our lack of injuries and his lack of playing

His number of "pro games in" is significantly lower than others in his age group. He's ready physically for the pro game, but there's still valuable experience to be had down there. Make the mistakes in the Dev league rather than the NHL. IMO It's the biggest mistake that was made with Virtanen. He was not sent to the AHL to 'learn to be professional' straight away. Once bad habits creep in, they're a 'karma' to get rid of. 3

However, we are now becoming a top team, so we are going to have NHL players on our farm team, and sitting in our press box up here. That's why good teams get through injuries, and still stay decent, and make the playoffs. I don't think it's wise to trade away our depth, especially a guy as good as Hockey Gaud who is so young. 2 1

This is indeed the reality. It's a reflection of how we're getting better and deeper on the big club. With Gaudette going down along with Baertschi and Goldy doing well, the calibre of our call up options is much better. The team was true to their word when Gaudette earned a spot. He deserved to be here because of the preseason play but our third and fourth lines are healthy and playing well. Just the numbers at this point. 2 1

Benning has done such a good job restocking the cupboards that we simply won't be able to retain them all. Guys will be traded, waived, walk etc and go on to success elsewhere. People best learn to start accepting that incoming reality soon. 25 minutes ago, Dombrova22 said: The kid is 23 years old!!! Are we just going to keep him in the minors his whole life? Nope, just until it's no longer feasible or the best choice for him and the organization. No player has ever been ruined by developing too long. Just because you've show you can play in the NHL, doesn't mean you will be. Particularly on an improved and deeper team. This is a 'problem' all teams want. 20 minutes ago, redhdlois said: Then they should have just assigned him to Utica in the beginning. I largely agree and said as much. By all means his effort and play warranted a shot at an NHL spot...but we're also a better/deeper team now that you need to show you're more than just 'good enough' but clearly the better choice over other, more experienced, players. Hell, with Roussel coming back we're going to have to trade or waive another guy pretty damn quick (barring injuries). Does that mean that guy doesn't 'deserve' or didn't 'earn' an NHL spot? Nope. Similar to Eriksson, who can play at the NHL level. Just because you've shown you can, doesn't mean you will get to do it here given the improved quality and depth of the team. 2
RakuRaku
Alright.. next up: Recall Baertschi and waive Eriksson... I mean it!! Baertschi can fit in our top 6... and God forbid another concussion... we also have Goldy!! Having Baertschi pop in a few goals for us whenever Ferland needs a break > keeping Eriksson around who's offering nothing!! It's the same cap relief anyway... time to wake up Management!!! Popular Post -Vintage Canuck-
"Just want him to play. It seems like every game we went back forth whether to put him in or not. Wouldn't be surprising if he's back relatively soon. Need him to get down and get playing and get reps. Last trip he didn't get a lot of practice time either. With him not requiring waivers he is a good option to go down and get some good quality practice time and game time. I'm sure we'll see him back sooner rather than later." - Green on Gaudette 1 4
alt kilgore
Would have liked to see him get a run with the big club. Not enough to run out his allotted games before he can't be sent down, but a few in a row at least. But meh, no problem. We can still call him up, and have those games saved in the bank for when we REALLY need him. More important for him to see some action. As others have said, he was there not just to be a 13th forward, in case of injury, this was more of a reward for his work in the preseason. To be around the team, learn from example of how pro's prepare, nice to be there for Bo's knighthood, and to get a bump in cash.
flat land fish
Enjoy the depth while it lasts people! Touch wood the team has ventured through the first month of the season and been able to ice the same lineup most nights. We have a line of nhl caliber forwards on the farm hungry for their opportunity. Depth @ goal and d is a little more unknown. Lots of reason for optimism.
