By the way, I'm guessing one of the first things the police did was to take the evidence away, and store it in a locker somewhere where the guy can't get at it. Yes, I'm sure it was stored as evidence. I was just being silly, but I like your ideas too. Add 'em to the list!

That said those would be hacktivists trying to prove a point. These ppl are just hackers out to make bank selling stolen ID info. My guess is after months of law enforcement searching, they’ll track these fools routes all over the globe finally landing on some server in Romania or Bulgaria (just pulling these countries out of the air but it will be some eastern European country with lax laws and no extradition) and that’s pretty much where it will end and the hackers will have moved on to their 10 target by then. Dazzle
Just purely speculation from me, the fact that they had to pay the so-called hackers for access to this info suggests that a computer (or possibly a series of computers) were locked down by scam artists who have used malware and/or SYSKEY (a terrible oversight by Microsoft). Without this password, the computer is essentially garbage, but for the hacker, he/she can still access the computer because now they 'own' it. A lot of the medical field computers use older versions of Windows - and therefore are susceptible to SYSKEY type of attacks.

Wow Canadian criminal system is broken. Been broken for ages. That guy who stabbed the highschool girl to death 2 years ago just had his final hearing and they are still trying to say he didn't know better and wasn't in a good state. If thats the case you can't put them back on the streets in public, jail is the best place for them regardless.

A lot of critical machines in the world use a lot of old, outdated software because it is such a bitch to update it once in production and given the importance of such machines you also don't want to touch them once stable. This same company I was talking about ran their entire financial system on software from the early 2000s - including Server 2003 and SQL 2005. Which is not necessarily a problem as long as they don't get out to the Internet - but any discovered flaws in the software will obviously not have been patched by the vendor or MS since they have gone end of life along ago Edited December 18, 2019 by Tortorella's Rant
Whorvat
Its not like I didn't warn them about their security, or lack thereof 4 years ago or anything If the consumer knew even the half of it - this would be an even bigger deal than it is already
