We have 5 regulation wins in our last 23 games. Just a slump or something more?

Combination of things, I think. Alot of home games close to Christmas. The mind tends to be elsewhere and not on the game. Inability to lock down the leads we have, which could be a personnel issue or a coaching issue. The other thing is the book is out on us by now. The team is struggling to score 5 on 5. Practice and lock down the PK and you have a good chance at beating the Canucks. TBH, I kinda want Mike Babcock in here. We need some better defensive systems and our young players are hungry, teachable, and they want to win. Not sure Travis Green has that at this level.

Benning got the club through some terrible no trade contracts which is great to be through.

He just has shown zero ability to sign effective UFA's to decent contracts and his trades are dog s.....

Put Benning back to scouting where he is best at and find an experienced GM that has a better grasp of all parts of the job.

He inherited a completely barren prospect cupboard and a bunch of awful contracts. He has had his mistakes (Virtanen and Juolevi, Eriksson and Gudbranson), but the bright spots are franchise-history bright spots (drafting Calder winner EP at #5, Calder finalist Boeser at #23, and soon to be Calder finalist Hughes at #7). Throw in the trade for Miller, who is near a point per game and has far exceeded expectations and you have a contender for one of the best GMs in franchise history.

This is a young team, and at the beginning of the year were projected to be on the bubble for the playoffs, just appreciate the fact that this team is on an upward trajectory and if they do miss, it just gives Benning 1 more early 1st round draft pick to add to this rising team.

The Canucks cannot hold a lead right now. They give up the  middle ice like drunk college girls on spring break.

Drunk college girls give up the middle of the ice?

Who knew?

They don’t look like a team who are good and just “unlucky”.

This is what has me frustrated.  We finally have world class talent in Petterson/Hughes, and guys who can score consistently in Miller/Boeser/Horvat, yet we still look unskilled and outmatched on the  ice nearly every night.

It's the systems in place that are to blame. The lines aren't playing like a unit.  The forwards play too high. There's no puck support. We're too passive on D. We willingly surrender the puck too much. Line changes are often ill timed and sloppy.

Since the coaching staff are ultimately responsible for the style of play we use as a team it's on them to right the ship.  Unfortunately, based on TG's post games, he doesn't see the same problems as literally everyone else so the only course of action is to replace the coaching staff.

Not even half a season in.

With all the turnover and moving pieces the past 2 seasons it’s not a surprise the group isn’t firing on all cylinders.

Firing people and installing a brand new system mid season isn’t going to help.  Honestly, give the coaches a chance to build and correct.

Well said.  All the whining about JB and Green is tiresome.  I do respect anyone on this sites views - but give a bye to anyone who's been around during the Keenan era.   And the 70-80's.   The rest have "endured" the best days this club has ever had - even now if you start at the WCE era and go to right now we have done a lot more winning then losing.  And it's a lot harder than it used to be with 31 - soon to be 32 teams.   And as some experts have pointed out - and anyone who's paying attention- we started with almost zero.   It's tragic (Canuck Luck) given the bevy of riches we had at the peak Sedin era.  But it is what it is.  JB is far from perfect- but he's better then average too.  I want to see what he can do with a good line-up - which we will absolutely undoubtedly will have with his picks aging.  They are barely out of their diapers as far as prime time goes.  Not sure we will get to see that given the amount of impatience in the fan base...and maybe ownership

If the coaches see no problems with the current system then they won't be looking to make a correction.  This is where we stand now.

Also, how long should the coaching staff be given? Another season? 3? Until players like Miller and Petterson start requesting trades because they're sick of losing?

With regards to how happy they are with the systems, what they say to the team is going to be different from what they say to the media.

Coaches can also be emphasizing one aspect and seeing good things there while spectators are pointing fingers at areas the coach isn’t currently prioritizing.

He should absolutely be given the rest of this season at least, considering this is the first roster he’s had that appears to be playoff-worthy.

People can (or at least will) critique but calling for Green to be fired at this juncture is very premature.   It’s also in no way productive if you’re actually worried about systems.  There’s no practice time to install something new.  May as well keep working on what they’ve put in place.

This is a funny place. YOu all remember when the Oilers replaced their coach every year for 5 years? Canuck fans laughed and laughed, mocked the Oiler Org  for mis-management. The funny thing is that it seems that it affected Canuck fans more than anyone else. NOw Canuck fans have swung 180 degrees the other way, finding it neccesary to "be patient" long after it is reasonable. Why, for fear we will repeat the Oiler mistake?

ilduce, what is this /12 season you are talking about? Bo Horvat is in his 6th NHL season without an NHL coach.

Ben Hutton, Gubby and Del Z are all playing better hockey in California with other coaches, interestingly they are both ex-Oiler coaches. Hutton also has never had an NHL coach and people wonder why these players are not progressing. Meanwhile our recent free agent signings are starting to look like Benny and Gubby out on our defense.

I agree with pateince with draft picks like Virtanen and McCann, who were both rushed into the NHL, but when did coaches start needing 3 years to prove their worth?

What kind of player could Bo Horvat be if he had 5 years of NHL coaching under his belt?

Fans calling for greens head think we have more talent then we actually do.

you can see the names

on paper and think wow well this team looks pretty good. And you’d be pretty right.

heres the thing though. Almost every team in this entire league looks really good on paper and if you don’t think at least 24/-25 teams do then you don’t know enough about other players in the league.

people treat the season like it’s dome

EA sports game and if we have a good team that means we should win..No....it doesent work that way. Because with a cap it breeds parity, with parity Breeds a ton of mediocre teams close together.

just because we have mostly the right group of players doesn’t mean they’re ready

three of our four best players are in there first second or third years.

our best four defensemen is a 19 yr old kid, two past their prime iffy bandwaids and a six million dollar Myers who was brought in for offense and is being outscored by gudbanson on a bad ducks team.

that says it sll. And then our offense is bipolar we almost never score first and then we have games we score 4-6 followed by two or three with less then two. I don’t like how green cries about penalties and then after the game praises our young team and the other teams grit, heavy fast hockey but really ...they’re NOT ready. But the fans are tired of waiting.

mix those things together and you have a disgruntled fam base who is being tired of being told “yes the Canucks were worse in the 80s and 90s) we don’t care we have three playoff wins (not series wins we have zero of those) but there playoff game wins since our cup finals run in 2011, one vs la in a five game first round loss, then two in that first round Calgary loss the last time we made it in 2015, We’re tired of being told to wait, but the team isn’t ready. It’s a toxic formula really.

So People can say it’s early. Is it though? It’s literally Xmas and don’t give me the blues that core made the playoffs a lot and was gritty everywhere and deep and got saved by a goalie who played out of his mind.

And people can say we were worse in the 80s and Keenan era, but If we miss this season , there we’re literally looking at 2021 as the next possible playoff appearance and by then it will have been a full decade with zero series wins and those three I dividual playoff game wins i eluded to above vs la in 2012 and Calgary in 2015, and that’s IF we make it in 2021!
