Popular Post theo5789
There were a few calling this the biggest game of the year or whatever. Myers stepped up with a 3 point performance. Has anyone complained about him tonight? How about the defense coach with us giving less that 30 shots tonight and perfect on the PK? Or did the players just stop listening to Baumer?

amplified0ne
Thatcher's still got lots of work to do, both goals he was overly aggressive and that got him out of position. The 2nd GA was crigeworthy, something that happens in beer league lol. He was pretty solid otherwise. Hopefully he continues to get better as he works with Ian Clark. Start to finish probably one of the more solid efforts this Canuck team has put together in a number of years.

There will be more time to rub it in later. There is never any let up to the team bashing after every loss. Even on the current win streak, people are harping on the coaching still (just the focus has shifted to the defense coach). Unfortunately they have take it as they like to dish it out whenever they can. Perhaps Pat O'Neill didn't hand out the towels well enough tonight though.

And we're only going to get better, if JB can package and maybe sacrifice someone then could be packaged with LE as a trade off.. getting the salary off us is what we need the most.. especially keeping Petey in mind, he's not going to be cheap.. With Hogs n Pods on the way and Tree back, just for starters makes us better and a healthy dose of competition and depth. So it will take a lil while longer to be a powerhouse team but finally JB seems to be putting together a team resembling that of the B's that beat us but see how he finishes it off.. he's learned he needs that toughness factor with a lot of skill too... Meh we're getting there but as it stands, we're in 12th place overall and still in the playoff picture, and the worst of the season (Nov) with being banged up and still managed .500 against the league's best.. much better of a team now than last year, by far! Atta boy Jimbo.. keep it up...

I remember him in Junior followed by his first few months as a Flame. I was concerned that the flames got such a good player, and now he’s trending towards full plug status. and how about JG and Monahan? Flames will never win anything with those guys as their primary offence drivers. Soft as butter and fold like a tent when the going gets tough. I’d take our core kids over theirs. flames spent heavy to build that D and they look like they are going nowhere. They're in big trouble. They did a patch up rebuild there and are a team of pretenders.

spook007
Cracking game to end 2019... Unfortunately had to listen to Tkachuks mum commentating (or whoever Cassie Campell is...) It was weird/hard having to listen to how good everything flames were, all while Canucks kept putting the puck into the net... Did enjoy it though Great to see our secondary scoring getting on the board... Think this team will be hard to contain offensively for anyone. Fun note. 2 weeks ago there was lots of tears on this board about Canucks once again being out of it...fire everyone with a heartbeat, etc etc... Maybe a little premature???anyone??? Happy New Year to you all on CDC... let the good times roll Edited December 30, 2019 by spook007 2

Huge improvement over the LA game. This time the Canucks started strong and were the better team overall. 2. The Canucks had the edge in the first period -- but not a 3-goal edge. The Canucks benefited from questionable goaltending by Rittich. The first goal was a solid goal -- a good shot on the PP from Myers at the point with traffic in front. But the second goal was soft. The third goal was a good play by the Canucks but a fortunate bounce. The second period was fairly close as both teams had some good looks and Calgary scored late. But the Canucks had an excellent third period and did a great job of shutting down Calgary. Natural Stat Trick credited Calgary with only 1 high danger chance in the 3rd period. I guess that was the Calgary goal. 3. Have to give credit to the Horvat, Pearson, Eriksson line again. They had the primary shutdown duty against the Monahan line and did a great job against them -- and provided a lot of offence. I have been negative about Eriksson this season, but since Green put that line together it is has been very good, and that includes Eriksson. He still contributes nothing to the physical game but his defence is solid and he actually looks faster than he did earlier in the season (although obviously he is still not what you would call "fast"). He made a nice play on the first Pearson goal tonight. He was also good on the PK tonight. Having Edler and Eriksson available for the PK really helps. 4. Have to say something about Myers. Obviously he had a big game with 2 goals and an assist, substantially increasing his point total for the year. He is looking more confident and he did make some nice plays. I think he was pretty fortunate to get 3 pts, but he did play a solid game -- much better than against LA. 5. Virtanen was good against LA and he was very good against Calgary. His goal but a bit lucky but it was a nice play, and it came right after he rocketed a shot off the post. Like Myers, he is playing with more confidence. It is a cliche in hockey to say that good offence starts with good defence. Personally I don't believe the causality necessarily runs in that direction. It can just as easily run the other way. Virtanen has been playing better defence since stepping up his offence. 6. On a negative note, the Beagle line struggled. I know Green likes Beagle, Motte and Scaller, but they were crushed in Corsi numbers again tonight. Beagle himself had 5 Corsi attempts for and 15 against. And they gave up the only 5-on-5 goal. And they had the LEAST time against the Monahan line of the 4 Canucks lines. They did not face particularly tough quality of competition. I was watching Schaller quite closely tonight. It seems to me that the rarely handles the puck cleanly. Green likes their physical game and their intensity. Beagle and Motte both play a hard physical game but I am beginning to have doubts about Schaller. 7. Tonight's win was huge, moving the Canucks into second place in the Division, beating and leapfrogging a good team (Calgary) that has been ahead of them in the standings for a while. And it was a quality win, not a steal by the goalie (although Demko did play well). Great way to finish out 2019.
