Another great game by Marky. Not sure it counts as a "steal" because the team as a whole played okay, even though the Rangers outshot the Canucks by a significant margin and had more high danger chances. 2. Huge game by Hughes. He logged over 10 minutes against Panarin and Strome, getting the primary shutdown role against them. He also led the team in time-on-ice, narrowly ahead of Edler and Horvat. And the winning goal was all about Hughes. He made an excellent play to keep the puck in the o-zone off the face-off win. Most D's would back up to get the puck or just would not have the quickness and anticipation to get to the puck in time. Then he carried puck through the o-zone and around the net, opening up passing lanes. Horvat took the pass and made a nice pass to Myers, who scored on a partially screened knuckleball. It was a nice play by Myers to get the puck through and onto the net in a good place. 3. As for Horvat -- another outstanding game. His line played shutdown against Panarin and Strome. He logged over 25 minutes of ice-time, and he had a positive Corsi. He also went 13-9 in the faceoff circle, winning some big face-offs, including the face-off that led to the winning goal. And of course he had 2 assists and went plus 2. I keep repeating this but it keeps being true -- the Horvat, Pearon, Eriksson line is playing great hockey since being put together, maybe Green's version of trying Burrows with the Sedins (which worked out okay). The Horvat line is playing heavy shutdown minutes and still outscoring and outchancing the guys they are up against. 4. In what has become a pattern, the 4th line struggled with possession At 5-on-5, the Canucks had 4 shots when Motte was on the ice and gave up 20, and that is in only about 8 1/2 minutes (Beagle and Schaller were similar). But I have to give him credit as he was credited with 5 hits in that time (leading the team). He is certainly playing with energy. And those three guys were good on the PK again. 5. Nice to see Myers have a solid night (in addition to scoring the winning goal). The Canucks now have the longest active win streak in the NHL at 7 games, and that is the team's longest win streak in the Benning era. Unfortunately, most of the Canucks' immediate rivals who were playing also won tonight, although it is a bit early to start scoreboard watching. Anyway, great to get the win, even if it was not a great game. Hope the team can keep it going. 2 3

Popular Post Ghostsof1915
Back in 1991, December 4. Vancouver vs. Montreal. I think the game was one of the few on BCTV. I remember watching it. Kirk McLean was standing on his head. Canucks won 3-0 in the Old Forum. I remember not only because it was beating one of the toughest teams in the League. But the fans in Montreal, gave McLean a standing ovation. I thought that was the classiest thing I've ever seen. 1 5
