He wasn't coming here to stir the pot, he is a fan of this team, and this board. A couple posters like Donald Brashear said some stupid things today, and others just confused a bunch of his posts for no reason. The bottom line was, he was right and a couple members of this board didn't take it well. Loosing him is a blow to the meaningful conversations had on the board, again, something that couldn't be said about many posters. It seemed that most of the controversy was around the reviewed non-goal that was shot over the net and there were differing opinions because Sportsnet did not provide a proper angle on the shot until later in the discussion. I was not involved in the GDT but I did go and read it after. Overall I didn't think it was overly heated but Sabrefan was trolling the board to a degree and fans responded as you how you would expect fans to respond. I know Sabrefan claims to be a Canuck fan but he was clearly cheering for the Sabres as depicted by his Sabre goal light on their goals and mocking the Canucks in the non-goal, calling Canucks fans homers and mocking Canucks goals. The forum rules do clearly state that this site is for Canucks fans and the evidence is against this for Sabrefan. His resulting tantrum really appeared to result from his team losing and not taking it well. I for one would escort Mr. Sabre fan to the door if he is not willing to adhere to forum rules.

It's no different than say you were a fan of any other team, but when they play the Canucks, then the Canucks are your primary team. It's not really a surprise considering his name is "SabreFan1". That doesn't mean he isn't a Canuck fan as well. He is a regular contributor here (not just in hockey talk) and provides a different viewpoint. Don't agree on everything, but then there wouldn't be a point of a message board. He's hardly a "troll" and I've seen some "Canuck fans" that troll their own team much worse. I didn't read the GDT, but I already know how some are on here and I don't blame him for not feeling welcome (although there are a large portion of us that wishes he wouldn't leave). Be passionate about your team and dish it back without any name calling and rude remarks (which apparently is also against forum rules). There are many other posters I would rather escort out before @SabreFan1 We should be welcoming of all fans from other teams as long as they are respectful. If they like to dish it out a little on game days, then it's all in fun until it gets taken overboard. 4
Popular Post skategal
I hope @SabreFan1 didn't get banned for his comments or has not chosen to leave CDC permanently. I wasn't on the forum during the game, came home to read the PGT and then had to go back and read the GDT for context. Things got a bit heated I suppose with the emotion of the moment from both sides. I'd say there was a fair bit of baiting from others towards @SabreFan1 as well. He gave as good as he got. I have found in the past that generally speaking @SabreFan1 provides a balanced view, inside perspective of things Buffalo, some good hockey knowledge and I'll miss that if he's gone for good. It's that balanced view that adds to the discussion on this forum, if everyone was of a like mind, it wouldn't be much of a discussion but rather 50 pages of everyone regurgitating the same points. That happens now too much, one person expresses an opinion regarding what is happening, and soon its become gospel. Pile on's of whipping boys, certain plays (dump and chase, drop pass) It gets a bit uninteresting to read at that point. I love it when there are well reasoned dissenting views. Gives me something to think about, and also to look for in watching the game. So many people on this board are long time fans, and also well rounded in hockey play. I'm a long time fan of the Canucks, but I'm also a hockey fan. Is there room on this forum for being both? 2

He has clearly respected both teams and brings a lot of thought behind what he posts. I respect intelligent discussion on this board and as long as it doesnt become a personal attack on anyone i will debate with all. Sabre fan may have taken it a bit too personal, but in hindsight he was correct. I am as big a homer as they come. I cheer for the Canucks because they are my hometown team. but i can respect other teams fans as long as we don't get too stupid about it. I am hoping Sabre Fan comes back and we all continue to get along even though we don't all have to have the same opinion.
spur1
Emotions run high during games. I do believe that is why we invest so much time and energy watching them. Posting in a GDT as an opposition fan is very much like walking through a minefield and not a recommended practice. I think the results speak for themselves. It was sad and pathetic to see him referred to as a "guest" when he's got more rep points than many have posts. bishopshodan
I like that poster. He has actually mentioned in the past that it's silly to let what people say online get under your skin. He has also admitted to stirring the pot a bit. I'm surprised he got so upset and hope he comes back. I was following a few heavy convo's he was having in other threads and can only guess that some of the Iranian/ US conflict was on his mind and perhaps adding some stress. That said, this is the Canucks site. Get ready for the heat if you are going to walk in the fire.

Everyone's entitled to their opinions. There are a lot of rules on these boards, I can think of other posters who start 50 percent of their posts with some sort of childish backhanded insult and they seem to swim by just fine around here. Sabre called some fans homers, who were currently in the moment being homers. The bottom line is a bunch of people drove out a respected member of this community. As one of the more senior members of this community, I'm allowed to express my opinion of that being a real friggin shame. 2
Popular Post -DLC-
Time to get back onto hockey talk please/thanks. Rehashing who did what just keeps us stuck there. SabresFan was not banned or asked to leave...he made a decision based on what he experienced here and, hopefully, will return. He is welcome here as a longstanding and clearly well respected board member and must also extend that respect to others as well. If he opts not to return, that is a choice and wasn't forced upon him so please refrain from blaming others. We all contend with stuff here at times when the board gets heated...it wasn't about being a dual fan...it was directly related to being a fan of our opponents in the moment as a questionable call was made. And using that platform to call others who weren't in agreement with him names...which is not acceptable. We are all Canucks. All involved played a part and there's no point in rehashing it because this is derailing threads and is a new day. Let's all hope he rejoins us but, if not, it's something he's decided upon and respect that and move on. But there is no us versus them here...let's get back to that as the general rule. Even mods. Please know that I take this seriously and went away to really process how I can do things better/differently. And I can and will. I apologize for any role I played in this drama and am open to feedback (that's presented to me constructively, in pms so others can get back to hockey talk). I am not the be all to end all here and really know that I can do things better. So I apologize for any role I may have played, but the rest is water under the bridge and it's time for us all to move past this and back to hockey discussion now. If you feel there was unfair treatment of someone, the report button is/was there to use directly in those posts (in real time). That is the most effective way of dealing with issues. Not to pile on and drag them around from thread to thread. Thank you. 1 3 1
-DLC-
Removed/hid the above posts...back to talk of the game, not what unfolded in thread. Thanks. Last warning to do so before it gets shut down for a cool off period. There was a lot of drama...but we're here for hockey and it's time to move past it in support of that. Thanks. 1
spur1
Great resolve by the Canucks to bounce back from Florida even after giving up the first goal.

SabreFan1 was stating that the shot that everyone saw go in actually went over the net (which it did), and called some posters “homers” for saying that it was a goal. Someone then called him a guest, and that he should watch himself on these boards, even though he’s been a member of these message boards for years, and he decided that was enough. I think he’s left the CDC.
