Did anyone catch evander kane's elbow to Quinn Hughes in the 3rd? It was a sneaky shot to the back of huggy bears head. It was on the near side boards in the sharks end. If anyone can hookup a gif on screenshot please let me know, i need it for a friend. Ya I saw that too. Part of me wanted someone to give Kane or say Karlsson (one of their “stars”) a shot, but part of me was proud the boys turned the other cheek, and the Sharks successfully made themselves look bad.

Compared to the crop that did most of their playing in the 80's to mid 2000's .... it's not that good. It's great to see such a great crop coming up again, plus there are many others that look like they will replace the Webers and Suters of the world (players a step or two below)...Dahlin, Makar, Heiskanen, Hughes ... and also a lot of prospects coming up looks a lot history repeating itself finally ...

It was like the Winnipeg game only more so. The Canucks were the better team (in this case by a big margin) but a combination of a hot goalie, hot goalposts, and bad bounces kept the Canucks off the scoresheet. The Canucks had been completely dominant through the first half, but it was a big relief to see Loui score. I was very impressed by how the team did not let the bad bounces get them down. They were just relentless. Like FijianCanuck says, they seemed to really want this one. Everyone put in a great effort. 2. Speaking of Loui and of the Horvat line more broadly, I have to repeat what I have written a lot lately. They have been great and Pearson came up big again tonight. They are playing like the best shutdown line in the league right now. Once again they were hard-matched in a shutdown role against the other team's top line. Horvat played over 13 minutes at 5-on-5 against Kane, Beagle and Gaudette each played less than one minute, and Petey played under 3 minutes. And once again the Horvat line won the Corsi battle and obviously won the scoring battle. Loui's contract will still be a big problem as team hits a cap crunch in two years when EP and Hughes have to be re-signed, but right now he has become a very valuable player. And he is obviously feeling a lot better about himself. Although I have been critical of him, one thing I liked is that even when everyone was down on him, he always played responsible defence when he was out there. 3. There is lot of talk about Virtanen after the game. Obviously he had an excellent game. The weird thing is that if you did not know the history and watched Virtanen and Boeser since they swapped places you would think Virtanen was the better player -- faster, more physical, and getting on the board more. I am not saying he is. I am just saying that is how it would look. Things will change around and Boeser will start putting the puck in the net again. But playing with EP and Miller has been great for Jake. I hope it keeps going. I can't help thinking of the Sedins -- any guy who played with them had a career year. And it might be the same with EP and Miller. 4. On the subject of EP, he played a very good game again tonight. He make a great pass to Edler that Edler rang off the crossbar and then EP had a great shot that rang off the post. It might be a bit premature to compare him to Henrik (the best player in Canuck history), but at every career stage so far he is well ahead of where Henrik was at the same age. And he just keeps getting better. I was impressed when he made a pretty hard hit about halfway through the game when I expected him to just peel off. He is a much more complete player than Henrik and, like Henrik, makes everyone around him better. 5. Sutter also got a lot of post-game comment. He was the center of the scrum that broke out late in the game. He was quite noticeable in the game, made a couple of hits, and was 3 and 0 in the face-off circle. And he was good on the PK. He is certainly a significant upgrade on Schaller. That said, I would not exaggerate his performance. He was the only Canuck forward with a significantly negative on-ice Corsi tonight and he has not generated much in the way of scoring chances since coming back. Like I said, he is still an upgrade and I am glad he is back, but I hope he continues to improve. 6. I think the biggest story was Hughes. He dominated the game with his ability to skate with the puck and make great passes. And of course he scored a key goal. He is now 1 pt. behind Olofson and Makar for the rookie scoring lead, and he is a much dominant player than either of those guys more generally. He has to be the Calder favorite right now. The HNIC panel was certainly talking him up as well, which does not hurt. 7. Usually I comment on whatever significant negatives I see. But tonight there really were no negatives worth commenting on. Demko was very good, nice to see Gaudette get on the board with 2 assists and nice to see Roussel coming around. Myers had a good game, and Edler was a rock. Great way to go into the break -- on a winning streak (8 games in a row at home) and in first place in the Division (admittedly just 1 pt ahead of 4 other teams in what has to be closest Divisional race since the current Divisions were formed), 8. Players and fans can spend the entire break feeling good about where the Canucks are right now. And with 3 players in the all-star game that should be fun also. As always the best comments after the game... Kudos 1
EP Phone Home
Love the net front presence we had all game. The Louie, Pearson and Hughes goal all had someone in front of Dell. That’s playoff hockey goal scoring. More of this as other teams defense close out those gaps as April gets closer.First time In years this late in the season you could say we are first in the division. These are very exciting times my Canuck Fam! Hughes makes every first pass a good one. Boy I love seeing how miserable the Sharts are. And this pic warms my heart. Who would’ve thought the Canucks are the highest standing Canadian team heading in the all-star break? This kind of things just doesn’t happen since the early 2010s.

Plus we have Hughes, who is a phenom, and Petey who is fast becoming one of the top 200 foot centres in the league. IMO we should be doing even better. 4

I am still tempering my expectations because our best players are still our youngest players. But if this is what they can do when they are rookies/sophomores, can’t wait to see what they can do when they become seasoned veterans. Both Hughes and Pettersson absolutely blew my expectations through the waters with their plays. I initially thought Pettersson is more likely a 80-90 points player when he hits his prime and now it looks like he is having a much higher ceiling than just that. Hughes on the other hand, I can’t believe how good he is already. I honestly thought Hughes at his peak would be doing what he is doing now and I just can’t wait to see what he can do in a few years. As of this year, playoffs is what I am I hoping for. Once we make it there, I will re-evaluate. Don’t think we are contenders yet, but definitely a lot closer to it than 2-3 years ago prior to the 2017 draft. 3
48MPHSlapShot
Pretty difficult to find anything to bitch about tonight, other than the fact that the team was snakebit for the first two periods...well, except for Louis. Go figure. Top to bottom it was one of the best wins of the season. Sure, it came against a lousy team, but at no point did it ever look like we were going to give the Sharks a chance to breathe, and we didn't. Quinn Hughes was absolutely phenomenal tonight. Every time he was on the ice he did something amazing. It is such a treat to watch this kid night in and night out. Tanner Pearson has lowkey gone from a placeholder to a core piece. A guy that's generally been criticized for his inconsistency, but he just isn't slowing down. On pace to absolutely demolish his career best. Awesome to see Virtanen taking the next step in his game. One less piece of ammunition at the troll's disposal if he's able to keep up this level of play full time. You can tell by watching him that he's thinking the game at a much higher level than he has in years past. Very impressed with the impact that Sutter has made to that fourth line. Schaller just wasn't getting it done, and Sutter just adds so much more. Better defensive play, better offensive player, and he's even playing with some bite. It's a shame he can't seem to stay healthy because having Sutter in the lineup makes the team better. Just a super solid win from top to bottom.

Shift-4
Loved the puck control dominance. Would have been nice to be rewarded with a goal or two earlier. I was getting nervous without the goals. Feels so good beating those chumps.
Canucks Curse
Only saw highlights- I mistook virtanen for Peterson on the goal he set up virt and Pearson looking like legit top 6 forwards we do need to improve our D or team ... by trade or system, I’m not sure we need to get a better system and see if our personnel can do it then if not, a trade should be pursued

A.V.'s slurp
Is anyone able to embed After Hours from last night? I couldn't catch it because I'm in Sharks territory and was forced to listen to Randy Hahn! Couldn't find it on cbc's site or youtube. Really like the Brock/Jake switch. Now Petey and Boes are the #1 trigger options on each line instead of trying to share oppurtunities. It also gives them 2 lunch pale linemates to help win battles and cycle down low. Before their line had 1 guy doing the spade work and they were both looking to weave through coverage. While Gaud's line is all spade with no true finisher. Now he and Rous can get down and dirty on the walls and find that sniper in the soft spot! Such a nice little lineup tweek that looks like it could pay huge dividends if the chemistry on that RGB line takes!
