Please don't trade for him now. Injury risk.

Maybe try for Petry for 3rd pairing and PP time

Petry is a top pairing D on several teams. He’s only second pairing in Montreal because they have Weber ahead of him on the right side.  The ask for him is supposed to be incredibly high since he has term and they’d like to keep him.  You wouldn’t like what it would cost to get him

Just read the article on his asking price, I'll pass. A RHD powerplay guy for 3rd pair and 2nd PP would go a long way for us though.

Didn't Chia and the Coilers pretty much give Petry away to the Habs a few years back?

I would not have minded JB making a trade for Barrie if it was Stecher and a small +.

But the hfleafs fans comments after Barrie just got hurt are hilarious:

What did I tell you guys - 50/50 chance Barrie goes down to injury tonight. Leafs luck. Unbelievable.

You’ve gotta be kidding me.

We are cursed this year... Jesus Christ
Guess we’re gonna find if Barrie truly is addition by subtraction    (He’s not)

My hatred for the leafs and their fans is so strong that I really laugh out loud at home when I read bad things happen to them.

Is that wrong??

Well your reputation points are currently 6,666 so it makes sense

Not worth trading away something for. I’m not down with helping the Leafs.

Canucks fans that rag on Dman like Myers have no idea. Myers is a Boss in his own end compared to Barrie. Bieksa even said tonight Stecher is a better option 5 on 5.

I have said it before,  but I don’t see the fit.  I don’t see the pairings being better

The Edler-Stecher pairing is expected to take the hard 5 on 5 minutes to shut down the best opposition.  Substitute Barrie in there and it can’t be a shut down pair anymore.

You can’t put him with Hughes except maybe on the PP, and to pay any premium just to try Barrie to play on a 3rd pairing and mainly be a PP guy doesn’t make sense.

I really think that our interest is really old news from before Hughes showed what he is.  If there was a steal of a deal, sure it is worth it... but there is more risk than reward in the short term to me.

Let’s not waste our time with Barrie. We don’t need a PP specialist defenceman and that’s about all he’s good for. If Kyle Dubas calls it’s no thanks!

Exactly...just walk away

If Benning is considering Barrie, he's looking for more scoring on the backend.

He would obviously help us there, but I think it's a gamble to expect that he's not a defensive liability.

Idk, could end up hurting us.

No matter what, I trust Benning.

Is Barrie's defensive game that bad? Or is it just bad because he's on the Leafs and they simply just don't know how to play defense as a team

Hughes Myers

Edler Tanev

Barrie Tryamkin

That could be our defence heading into the playoffs

It was McKenzie this Thursday saying that Vancouver was one of the teams that called on Barrie.  He didn’t know if the Leafs would consider Stecher as return though.  Last night was their last game before the TDL.

It sounds like they are ready to move on from Stecher whether this TDL or in the summer - Friedman has it too.  Last draft they apparently tried to get Barrie.  Getting him earlier on the team allows to test the fit and might help them convince him to sign as UFA.

TSN has a transcript of McKenzie detailing the type of return the Leafs were looking for before what happened last night.

“When those teams called, the Leafs basically told those teams that were interested 'Yeah, you know what? We would consider under the right set of circumstances trading Tyson Barrie.' But the first thing you need to know, it's not a sell-off for future considerations, it's not like a lot of the rental deals. The Toronto Maple Leafs don't want some magic beans that might pay off down the road. Listen, one of two things has to happen in order for Barrie to be traded. Either they have to get a defenceman coming back that makes them a better team right now because they still want to make the playoffs, or they have to get picks and prospects that they could immediately parlay into that mythical unicorn right-shot defenceman that they're looking to play with Morgan Rielly. And so that's the circumstance under which Barrie could move.

"Lots of teams interested, Vancouver is one of the teams that has spoken to the Toronto Maple Leafs and speaking of Vancouver, there's been a lot of trade talk emanating out of Vancouver about defenceman Troy Stecher. Whether or not Stecher could be or would be part of anything with Toronto remains to be seen, but there's a lot of moving parts there on the defenceman market even though a lot moved this week."

Barrie would be nice but idk. We are already sometimes shaky D-wise. Setcher isn't great defensively but he competes well in that regard. Acquiring Barrie would most definitely thrust either Tanev or Myers into a defensive role. Barrie would probably play with Edler which might be a pretty good pairing but we'd have to have a lot of faith in Fantaberg-Tanev/Myers in a defensive role.

If we knew Tryamkin was coming back then I wouldn't be afraid of trading Stecher for Barrie. I don't mind having more offensive D but we need more certainty defensively before acquiring this type of Dman.
