Sutter/Roussel and Stecher would be my guess We could definitely afford to re-sign him My worry would be messing with team chemistry this late in the season. Stecher and Roussel are quite popular in the dressing room from the sounds of it. Agreed the chemistry matters and that would be a tough trade for the players but if we could move Roussel and stecher id jump at that opportunity. He was on fire last night against BOS, and could be good depth in the playoffs. I'm on board with getting Barrie, only if: to VAN: Barrie (will be UFA) to TOR: Benn (1 year left at $2) and Palmu If Barrie comes here, he'll need to be paired with a solid defensive player (Edler or Tanev) Then you just simply won’t be getting Barrie. I don’t know why people look over the fact the man scored 59 points last year and is still having a solid year with 35 points in 63 games.
zduck14
I'd love to see Barrie with Edler. Over his career, Edler has always played his best hockey with offensive guys like Ehrhoff, Salo, Karlsson (international). It would also give the Canucks more than one d pairing that can actually move the puck taking some of the pressure off Hughes. Only potential downside I can think of may be the cost.....

Edler can be that guy. 2. We need more 5 on 5 scoring - despite last night we are barely middle of the pack on that. 3. I think he'll take a hometown discount. 4. If Quinn goes down, we're &^@#ed. That's all good, but he's not as good as Stecher defensively, and TOR wants to trade him. He's also a UFA at the end of the season. TOR is desperate for a defensive Dman. Benn is gritty, experienced and cheap. They would have him for next season as well, plus the prospect. Barrie is a rental, and I don't get it. If Barrie is hurting TOR's chance of playoffs, then why would Benning try to get Barrie? I sure hope these are TSN (Toronto media) rumours. Or, if there'\s a deal, I hope Benning doesn't give them much.

hammertime
PP1 Miller Pete Toffy Hughes Barrie PP2 Pearson Bo Brock Edler Myers D pairings Hughes Tanev Edler Barrie Fanta Myers I think it could work in our favor. if the price is Stetcher Baer + B prospect I'd do it. Lots of player need complimentary d partners, even Hughes still needs Tanev e.g. Gudbranson was actually good beside Campbell. Edler could easily be a great partner for Barrie. 10pavelbure96
I'm on board with this. Barrie would lighten the load for Hughes and Edler plays well when he doesn't have to carry the offensive load on a pairing. Just think back to the Edler/Ehrhoff days of 2011. I dont know who would be going back but if we keep all of our D we would have a lot of depth on our back end. Stecher and Benn in the press box could slot in for an injury and we would hardly skip a beat. I think Barrie is a lot better than he has played this year, he hasn't been a fit on Toronto. So if the price is good, have at er Jimmy

I’d bet Edler-Barrie would be a killer 2nd pair, cause Hughes-Tanev is clearly our #1 pairing.

So who goes the other way? thats my basis here. If we were legit cup contenders I’d listen. But I don’t see the point in mortgaging future prospects for a Hughes-light.

So again....all this points to the team (specifically our d) not being ready to be real!!!! be patient! Let the prospects develop and sign the right guys over the next couple years. just seems to be forcing a situation and everyone here is on board and or trying to find reasons to justify every move jb makes. and I’m a fan. Just saying this makes no sense right now imo.

Benn could step in as their 2nd paring LHD right now. We'd have to retain on Rooster but that works. Roussel hasn't been showing that part of his game much this season. Plus they just acquired Clifford. They have to be looking for a defensive top 4 D.
higgyfan
I would think that, by now, JB knows whether Tryamkin will be joining the team soon. If so, I certainly wouldn't mind picking up Barrie for Stecher. I think TO will be holding out for more, which I hope the Nucks hang up the phone.
48MPHSlapShot
If this does go down it better be a hockey trade and not a "let's trade picks and prospects for a rental" type trade.
