This is definitely a team thing. Athanasiou is a good player and hasn't been this bad before, he's just the sucker that plays all the time on this horrid team.

Plus 2 tonight

Only time all season he's gotten better than plus 1.

He has been positive only 6 times in 47 games.

McDavid had been playing with 3rd liners.

Oilers improved a lot with adding AA and Ennis. That speed will be very hard to handle for defenses.

They'll be a tough opponent if we face them in first round.

For sure.

Their special teams are also extremely good this year. They could go far.

From what I saw last night (Oilers’ 3rd period), yeah that top line‘s speed will be extremely hard to handle.

Ennis is no slouch either.

I fear the days of really bad GMing in Edmonton is over. No way they chew Holland out of town...

...right?

When they have the puck they’ll be fast.

Not gonna win many puck battles with that line.

But then there’s the rest of the team.......

Their 2nd line Yamo Nuge Draisaitl was dominating before Yamo got injured.

Kassian will be back on McDavid's line soon after serving suspension.

Neal and Kleffbom will also be back from injury soon.

With additions of Ennis and AA they are a deeper team now. Their 3rd and 4th lines will be better with trickle down affect.

They have a good team.

They play a smart trapping system that creates neutral zone turnovers.  It’s the same system Trots plays.  It keeps shots against down, and limits opponents’ ozone possession.  They have a fair team, but are extremely well coached.

Ofcourse they are well coached. Tippet was brought in for that purpose.

Hitch also put in some work last season to get them playing defensive.

They play a very responsible game. Before this they used to play like the Leafs and it wasn't getting them much success.

Going to be a tight out in the Pacific.

Giving VGK all they can handle right now even though down 1-0 early in the 2nd period.

Don’t spread this around, but I’d like us to play Tippet’s systems.

Ya I hear you Alfie..that's the way to play, especially right now with Marky out for a month.

Defensive hockey wins Cups. Canucks are going to need to tighten up here if they hope to win a round or two in playoffs.
