It is now 1.5 seasons that Markstrom has played top 5 calibre in the league... that is a solid body of work, especially in comparison to Demko who has effectively no body of work. Markstrom has completely allayed my worries about not being able to sustain his play. Paying him $5.5 million for a 4-5 year deal is our best bet right now. Getting rid of LE for Demko would be a great deal for us. If Demko can come in and be above average most games, and they buckle down on defence (its great that Motte is back and we got the best face off guys in the league) they should be able to ride this out. Anything is possible, but if they can avoid it, they will. I think Demko can survive a month (knock on wood). This is his opportunity to give us a hard decision on who to be the starter next year. Lots of good info and what he is saying during the presser is counter to all of the stuff media has been saying the last few weeks. Was asked about moves in the division, doesn't comment on it much, just says teams are adding pieces they think they need. Jim's approach was to be more aggressive over the summer adding guys so the group can play together (Miller, Myers, Benn, Fanta). Happy with the group, wants to see what they can do. Wants to also see young kids in Utica. Happy with what Utica has done this year. Asked about Simmonds, doesn't talk about Simmonds directly,says they called teams and asked around and to see the price. Also notes he did try to move Baer and was in discussions with teams but teams went with other guys. Will continue trying to move Baer in the summer and at the draft. Sounds like they also explored other cap clearing moves but Jim only focused on moving Baer during his presser Clarky gives Benning a list of goalies worth targetting, Jim makes calls to see what the price is. Domin was near the top of Clarkies list. Talks a bit about Stecher, says he was never shopping Stecher. Teams called and asked for him and that info got leaked. Happy with the price they paid for Toffoli, prices went up quite a bit today. Happy they got things done early. Confirms they expect Brock to be back before the season ends. Asked about Barrie, won't comment on it.
