Italy is closed.

The whole country. No one in, no one out.

Full quarantine.

Now 700+ cases in the USA. Algorithms were run according to the evolution of this increase in the face of no testing and absolute US local chaos, and it is estimated that around 200,000 could already be infected but are going about their business without symptoms

Apparently kids U19 are little virus factories, but show no symptoms.  This virus lives in them, and they can spread it, but they don’t get sick.

The NHL's bottom line is going to take a beating if the playoffs have to be played without crowds. The report about the cap increase was just an estimate, the actual cap has frequently come under the estimate. This could have a big impact on next year's cap.

What if they eventually cancel the rest of the season and playoffs? If the Canucks are in a WC or playoff spot when they cancel (if they do), does NJ get our pick this year?

It is now a Pandemic.

This has a massive effect on the NHL, all their insurance is now voided. This could or will end  the season

where are you getting that info from?

The insurance thing, sorry i took that wrong.

It was discussed about the San Jose cancellations, as long as it was a community closure the insurance paid but once it was a Pandemic the insurance was cancelled.

They also talked about how the cap would be affected and how the players might have to make up the short fall in revenue through the esgrow.

I think we have to wait and see what the league says on something like that. It could have been a California-specific law they are dealing with.

With the WHO announcement this morning and actions being taken in Europe and a couple of US cities/regions in regards to cancelling large crowd events I can't see how the NHL and NBA finish their seasons unless they play with no fans in the stands. Not sure how long of a postponement each league could afford before the seasons have to be cancelled but that's pretty much where we are at.

What if someone at the beginning of the year bet money on a team to win the Cup, and then the season gets canceled?  Will bookmakers and casinos return the wager?

The NCAA just announced that none of the March Madness games will have fans. Limited to staff, media and family members. That's huge. The NHL and NBA can't be far behind...the MM games will be weird with no fans.
