Isn't it time to give someone from Utica a chance instead of Eriksson?

However.

Pearson and Toffoli are besties and that may be where the reduction In salary money may be had.

An really, PEARSON - HORVAT - TOFOLLI skated circles around the Blue Jackets. Unfortunately they were put together late in the game and ran out of time. But the energy these three brought in was exactly what Cup contenders have as a first line.

One caveat. Its an extremely small sample size though at a time in the game where desperation was kicking in. I think Toffoli would fit really well on either line thanks to a strong 2 way game. But he has been great on the top line. Hard to change that if you are Green.

Isn't it time? This post itself is a few years too late. Eriksson has been playing this way since he came here. Either we promised the players something like we wont waive them if they sign or its on the coach or GM. There is absolutely 0 reason Eriksson and Schaller is even on the bench with the level and effort they have shown. That defensive specialist BS is just something fans make up to justify the case which always happen on this board.

Baertschi is a good argument, he is a not flashy but he is a guaranteed 40 point player. How is Eriksson still playing 11-13 minutes over Baertschi in the AHL just makes 0 sense. Imagine Baertschi's play making ability on our 2nd pp unit.

Actually, nah. Eriksson IS. very defensively responsible.

Bärtschi is a concussion away from retirement. That, to me, is even less reliable than having Eriksson play an important defensive roll.

Just FYI, I believe Goldy was recently benched in the AHL for his lack of commitment to play without the puck.

Wasn't it coz it was his turn to sit under the veterans rules? In the games I have been watching he has done well defensively, even to the extent that he is now on the second PK unit

Bess is a far better driver of play with puck on stick than Tofu.  Tofu, as you say, is definitely harder on and off pucks.  I don’t see him as a play driver like Bess though.

Hopefully the PEARSON - HORVAT - TOFFOLI line plays tonight against the Islanders

I am not convinced Bo is the right fit for these 2 wingers.

Undoubtedly Pearson and Toffoli have chemistry together (does help their being besties too), but look at the origins of that success ......

With the LA farm team, the Manchester Monarchs, they were centered by Linden Vey, a pass-first player.

When called up to the big team, after a few games they were put together on a line with Jeff Carter (another pass-first player) to form the heralded "seventies line"

Bo is not a pass-first player.  He is often a bull in a China shop,, taking on the whole opposition to barrel his way thru.  If ne weren't so good at faceoffs,  he'd make a great power winger.

The best pass-first center we have in the system is Petey, but he sucks at faceoffs.  Next best (imo) is Jasek.  He was great with Lind and Bailey, but has been moved back to the wing with John Stevens return.

Carter did get a lot of goals by being a net front presence, and Bo does too, so there is that.

I think Pearson with Bo and Toffee with Petey works just fine

True, but having Loui play is passive.  It’s just another example of Green’s passive philosophy.

I'm just going with what I read here:

Veteran numbers stacking against Goldobin despite being a top 5 scorer on the team.

Trent Cull scratched him last game as well saying Goldobin needed better attention in the defensive side of things.  At this point the kid simply just doesn't get it, I know Wouldn't be surprised if we simply didn't qualify him at all and let him walk come the summer

I tend to agree.  To some Eriksson is some kind of defensive god.  He's a veteran NHLer.  And to have any sustained career in the NHL you have to learn to play without the puck.  Ask Goldy.  There are not many better than LE defensively, but on the other hand there are not many worse.  His edge is his experience. He won't take the chances that a green prospect might, based on experience.  That's why Green trusts him.

He's a kind of neutral placeholder on that line.  Not physical, not very productive.  But he holds his own position adequately for the most part.

But at what time is that just not good enough? Especially when we are dropping fast in the standings and we need more production? And more physicality? At what point is a player like Bailey or MacEwen's more dominance in those areas, and the spark they could bring to Horvat's line,  trump the defensive cautionary experience that Louie has in situations?

So why does Horvat produce more with Loui in his line? Toffoli is definately an upgrade but Virtanen and MacEwan is more risky.

So if you take up more AHL players we let in more goals. And in tight matches the difference between a win or a loss is players like Loui as you probably seen in some of the last games.

The problem now is that Green can't carve his way through defensive teams, not that Loui is inbtop 6 or not.

Baertschi would score 40 points and be a -27...

You would think a healthy scratch for a couple of games would spark this guy...I would have tried it atleast for a couple of games

But Horvat has not been very productive 5 on 5 with Louie. Not for awhile at least. The excuse is that that's ok, because he is the premier shut down line.  But a second line cannot be simply a shut down line.  I don't think Horvat is that great defensively anyways. He should not be used as simply a shut down player. That's why we got Sutter and Beagle, and Schaller when he was here.  To take that load off of Horvat.  I'd rather see the Horvat line as a secondary scoring line, with wingers that can actually score and make plays. Sometimes a good offence is the best defence.

edit:  Woo hoo  looks like Green is listening to CDC!   Eriksson out MacEwen in tonight?

Green has always changed the team after reading this forum. It's Benning you can blame Loui for. :bigblush:

I agree that the had a hard time at the end but that can you say about the whole team.
