Popular Post AV.
Going into the 2009 NHL off-season, the Dallas Stars were tasked re-shaping their team. After a poor season, which featured a goaltending saga and a bottom five finish, the changes needed were always going to be massive. The Draft: At the draft, Dallas selected six times. They used their picks to select Tanner Johnson (9.0C), Ryan O'Reilly (8.5D), Braydon McNabb (8.0D), Jeremy Maurice (8.0D), Jac Fisher (7.0F), and Steven Anthony (6.5D). Unlike other years, Dallas was not a factor on the trade front, although the team did trade Enver Lisin to Tampa Bay for a third round selection in the 2010 draft. Free-Agency: The busiest part of the off-season for Dallas came in the free-agency. Dallas set out to improve their depth, shore up their defence, and replace the goaltending of Marty Turco. On the first day of free-agency, Dallas signed veterans Andy McDonald and Jaroslav Spacek. Dallas was ecstatic to land these targets as they had previously had major success on their past organizations. Additionally, through trade, Dallas acquired forward Antoine Vermette from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for prospects Jaromir Kriz and Tyler Cuma and Tampa Bay's third round selection in 2010. On the second day of free-agency, Dallas was relatively quiet. While they pondered deals for other players, they ultimately settled on simply offering veteran center Kevyn Adams a contract, which he accepted. On the final day of free-agency, Dallas capped things off by signing former Boston starter Tim Thomas, as well as forward Jesse Schultz. The Season: *Bold denotes new acquisition* Dallas goes into the 2009/2010 season looking like this: Brendan Morrow - Mike Ribeiro - Loui Eriksson James Neal - Andy McDonald - Jesse Schultz Jere Lehtinen - Jason Arnott - Antoine Vermette Steve Ott - Kevyn Adams - Jon Sim Darryl Sydor - Sergei Zubov Trevor Daley - Stephane Robidas Jaroslav Spacek - Matt Niskanen Tim Thomas Hannu Toivonen On paper, the team appears to be deeper and more balanced than they were just a season ago. The team has added more scoring to their ranks, have added sound defensive-minded players, and goaltending shouldn't be too far off to where it once was with Marty Turco. Of course, many teams have also strengthened their sqauds so it may be hard to predict how or where our teams ends up. One thing is certain, this line-up will be supplemented by the integration of many young players such as Tom Wandell, Rusland Bashkirov, Angelo Esposito, and Stefan Legein during the season. 3 2

Popular Post Otis
Been an exciting off-season in Minnesota after a heartbreaking game 7 loss to Vancouver in the 2nd round. We made a risky deal during the draft, moving arguably our 2nd best forward last season in exchange for Kevin Shattenkirk and Andrew Cogliano. This move was done to clear some cap in hopes to acquire a center upgrade in UFA. Day 1 of UFA was huge for Minnesota as we were able to require a legitimate running partner for Marian Gaborik in signing Peter Forsberg. This move gives us the best center depth we have had in years and help lessen the pressure on Marian. We were also able to add exciting youngster Mason Raymond to boost our top-9 forward group and PK, Mason will start on the 3rd line but could work his way up to the top-6. To finish it off we came to terms to bring back long time Wild defender Derek Morris on a 3 year contract to stabilize our D core. We will look to compete for 1st place in the west once again this year, Vancouver having lost Luongo will help out in this, and Calgary is terrible, we should be able to push for a division title at least. Opening night lineup: Pascal Dupuis - Peter Forsberg - Marian Gaborik Chris Kunitz - Mikko Koivu - Michael Ryder Mason Raymond - Andrew Cogliano - Lars Eller James Sheppard - Marty Reasoner - Colby Armstrong Brent Burns - Kim Johnsson Kevin Bieksa - Derek Morris Nick Schultz - Martin Skoula Niklas Backstrom Cristobal Huet
Popular Post Master Mind
MM's 2009-10 Standings Predictions (using the latest analytics) West 1. MIN 2. CHI 3. SJS 4. NSH 5. LAK 6. ANA 7. DAL 8. CBJ Strong Central division pushes DET out and keeps STL from getting in, will be a close race. Weaker Northwest division could allow the Canucks to sneak in even without Luongo. LA and DAL appear to have improved enough in offseason to make a jump. East 1. PHI 2. BOS 3. ATL 4. WSH 5. PIT 6. BUF 7. TBL 8. CAR Strong Southeast division could force CAR and/or TBL out in favour of MTL and NJD. WSH the safe bet to win division, but offseason by ATL may be enough for a big breakthrough. Only locks to make it are PHI, BOS, and WSH. OTT and NYR could also take spots if OTT's top line or Lundqvist carry their respective team in. Cup Prediction CHI over PHI or SJS over BOS Should give out a non-tradable 91st overall pick to whoever can make the most accurate predictions
Blue Jay 22
Going into the offseason, the goal was to improve goaltending, defense, and team depth. On paper, this looks to be accomplished with the trade acquisitions of Hainsey, Vaananen, Rinne, Kaberle, Grebeshkov, Kulimen, Komarov, and Radulov, and FA acquisitions of Anisimov, Modin, and Brylin. On paper, this is a strong team. Only sims can tell the story though. Atlanta Thrashers Opening Season Roster: Ilya Kovalchuk - Pavel Datsyuk - PA Parenteau Johan Franzen - Artem Anisimov - Alexander Radulov Leo Komarov - Matthew Lombardi - Nikolai Kulimen Fredrik Modin - Tony Martensson - Sergei Brylin ex: Trent Hunter Tomas Kaberle - Paul Martin Ossi Vaananen - Ilya Nikulin Ron Hainsey - Denis Grebeshkov Pekka Rinne Jose Theodore Edited April 30, 2020 by Blue Jay 22
