Popular Post Zigmund.Palffy
Montreal Canadiens Clinch Playoff Berth ! The Montreal Canadiens are going to the PLAYOFFS! In a nail biting finish to end the season, three teams (OTT,CAR,MTL) were gutting it out for two playoff spots. In the end, Carolina and Montreal prevailed and booked their tickets to the 2009/2010 NHL Playoffs. Montreal were in the division lead heading into the TDL, but things turned for the worst as the Canadiens were 5-5-0 going into the last 7 games of the season. GM ZP had a closed door meeting with the team with those final 7 games remaining. "I just told all of them that I believe in this group, we got this far after leading the division and now every game was a playoff game", says GM ZP. After the GM gave his group the final talking of the year, the team lost two straight and fell to 10th place in the east. Fans in Montreal were ready to riot and cut GM ZP's head off if the team missed the playoffs. The players heard those roars, and then something imaginable happened, the team went on a tear, led by the Sedins, the team responded with an amazing five game winning streak and punched their ticket to the playoffs. "We wanted to play for our GM he worked hard to put this group of players together and we believe we have a great group of guys who can find and help our team to win", says Henrik Sedin. "We want playoff hockey in Montreal and the fans and the organization deserves it, and now we finally making it happen", says Henrik Sedin. For Montreal Canadiens, they will go up against a power house team vs the Atlanta Thrashers, a team that are full of some of the best russian talents on the team, led by Ilya Kovalchuk, Pavel Datsyuk, and Andrei Markov. Montreal Canadiens do matchup pretty will with the Thrashers, but it will come down to goaltending, where Thrashers could have the edge with Pekka Rinne between the pipes. Although, Carey Price showed us all season he is capable of winning big games. This will be the biggest test of Carey Price's young career, as he will be facing a heavy spek of Russian talent. Montreal is hoping that the leadership of past cup winners can be the difference in this series vs the heavily favourite Thrashers. With Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, Scott Hannan and Curtis Brown have all won cups in the previous years, Montreal would love for the leadership of these players to come to fruition. This will be one of the toughest tasks for any group of players to go against a powerhouse like the Atlanta Thrashers, but Montreal Canadiens management believes in this group, just like how they believed they got them into the playoffs. Montreal is expected to be swept from some analysts and experts, but the players want to prove all those doubters wrong that they do belong in the playoffs, just like how the team proved the other doubters wrong that they were not good enough to make the playoffs. With the core locked up and for whatever happens in the playoffs, this season is a success for the Montreal Canadiens and hopefully they continue to make noise for years to come. Patrick Kane
5 More Years of Keith & Kane! Making a combined 1.85M for the past 3 seasons, the two cornerstones of the franchise have received 5 year contracts. It is rumoured Duncan Keith has received one of the largest contracts in league history for a defender, in the $6,000,000+ range. It is well deserved, as since 2007-08, Keith ranks 2nd in points with 179 and is in the top 5 for minutes played, averaging 27:15 a season. Kane will be receiving $5,800,000 per season after recording 53, 77 and 76 point seasons since entering the league. Kurisu
All 5 year contracts on "unproven" players are not subject to the guidelines. These players will be paid according to their potential on a case by case basis and the agent will work in tandem with the commissioner to ensure the player is adequately compensated. 3
