RULES (WORK IN PROGRESS)

DISCLAIMER****

Spoiler

Just because a player is good or bad IRL doesn't mean the same for this game! The database has generated random potentials based off the following scale, each time I create a new game the results could end up different! A player with a rating 200 would be the best player in the game, anything over 100 is a servicable NHLer:

Spoiler

-7 Potential will be between 110-140 (quite rare, a good prospect with a decent chance of being a regular NHL player)
-8 Potential will be between 130-160 (rare, a top prospect with a good chance of being a talented NHL player)
-9 Potential will be between 150-180 (very rare, a top 10 prospect who is considered a can't miss NHL talent)
-10 Potential will be between 170-200 (extremely rare, the top player available in a draft, but not every year)
-11 Potential will be between 20-80 (intended for very young, hard-to-predict players)
-12 Potential will be between 40-100 (intended for very young, hard-to-predict players)
-13 Potential will be between 60-130 (intended for very young, hard-to-predict players)
-14 Potential will be between 90-160 (intended for very young, hard-to-predict players)
-15 Potential will be between 110-190 (intended for very young, hard-to-predict players)

The same must be followed for the draft and its prospects! I've added random generated prospects to make things even more interesting, but the well known players may or may not be as good as they IRL!

DO NOT JUDGE A PLAYER IN TRADES OR IN DRAFTS BY HOW GOOD THEY ARE TODAY! EVERYTHING IS DIFFERENT!

INTRO:

Spoiler

CSL will be simmed on EHM using the 2006-07 roster database. Rosters will be tracked on Google Sheets, while everything else will be run through CDC. I will look into creating a Discord group for the league as well.

TEAM SELECTION:

Spoiler

A team selection thread will be released shortly. The draft order will be determined by the order in which you have signed up for the game. Members who have helped participate in admin duties to set up the league will get first priority in this order.

GETTING STARTED:

Spoiler

Each teams 23 man roster has already been uploaded to the sheets. This roster was pre-determined by the game and will not change. Nail has added each team's top 5 prospects (ranked in order of listing on sheet) to the bottom of each sheet. To make things easier, each team will only start with 5 prospects. Once GMs have picked their teams, Nail will send them a screenshot of their current depth chart, so they have a better understanding of where their players currently stand (as 2006/07 was a long time ago and not many of us will be able to remember who's good!)

SCOUTING REPORTS:

Spoiler

As many players will be relatively unknown under this roster set in this sim engine, Nail will provide all GMs with 20 free scouting reports for Year 1. A scouting report will tell you basic info about a players current ability, future potential, and player type. Scouting reports can be used on players from your own team, or on players from other teams that you might decide to trade for.

As Year 1 has now passed, any GM who joins the league from now on will be provided with 20 free scouting reports in their first season as a GM.

ROSTER RULES:

Spoiler

A team must consist of at least 20 players (12 Forwards, 6 Defenceman, 2 Goalies). The maximum roster size is 23 players (with maximums of 14 forwards, 8 defencemen or 3 goalies).

UPDATING LINES:

Spoiler

You may send in your lines to Nail in the following format:

When making changes to your lines, please bold the changes you have made since the previous lines.

All teams strategies will be set to the same, there will be no changing of these strategies at any time.

ENTRY DRAFT:

Spoiler

The entry draft takes place at the end of every season and will consist of 3 rounds.

Nail will release a spreadsheet which consists of 120 players. The top 30 players will include scouting profiles and NHL comparisons for teams to get an idea of the kind of player they may be drafting. These players will have a rating along with a letter grade ranking their potential. The ranking system is as follows:

10 - Franchise G / D / F

8.5/9 - Elite G / #1 or 2 D / 1st line forward

8 - Starting G / #3 D / 2nd line forward

7.5 - Low end Starting G / #4 D / 3rd line forward

7 - Backup G / #5 D / 3rd line forward

6/6.5 - Low end Backup G / #6 or 7 D / 4th line forward

"A" means NHL ready immediately, "F" means nowhere near NHL ready.

The other 90 players will have all attributes hidden, and will only have their ratings released if they are drafted by a team. It is possible to gain some scouting intel on players by using perk points (see below).

Players will be assigned automatic contracts based off of their draft position. These contract values will be released shortly.

SALARY CAP:

Spoiler

The salary cap will be $44M. The salary floor will be $24M

WAIVERS:

Spoiler

Only players with caphits of $1.5M or less can be placed on waivers. Players will become eligible for waivers once they are 25 years of age or older. If a player is below the age of 25, they may freely be sent down to the minors.

IN THE SYSTEM:

Spoiler

Teams will begin with 5 players in their systems. Players who have just been drafted may continue their development in the CHL, NCAA or Europe. These players won't be eligible to be called up to the NHL until they are playing in the AHL. Nail will provide teams with the leagues that the prospects will be playing in prior to the season.

TRADING:

Spoiler

Trades are to be sent in to both trade trackers in the following format:

To Team X: Player Z, 2007 Team Y 1st

To Team Y: Player S, 2008 Team X 3rd

Once a trade has been sent in, please remember to send in your updated lines to Nail.

There is no cap retention in trades at all.

- You are allowed to trade pending RFA rights, you are not allowed to trade pending UFA rights.

- Once you have re-signed a pending RFA, you are allowed to trade him at any time.

- Once you have a re-signed a pending UFA, if you trade him before you reach the 20 GP mark, you may find it hard to convince any free agents to come join your team the following season.

- Once you have signed any free agents, if you trade him before you reach the 20 GP mark, you may find it hard to convince any other free agents to come join your team the following season.

RE-SIGNING GUIDELINES:

Spoiler

Our league will operate under an arbitration style system for RFAs. Players 26 years of age or younger will be RFAs. At the beginning of the re-signing stage, teams will choose between a 1, 2, or 5 year term for their RFA's.

1 year - prove it again type deal

2 years - bridge deal

5 years - long term deal

The RFA Agent will then provide contract values based off our contract guidelines (still TBD), and they will be a take it or leave it type offer.

If a team decides not to take the RFA Agent's offer, the player will be eligible for offersheets in free agency, however if they are not offered an offersheet in Stage 1, they will re-sign for cheaper than the agent's original value.

For any players 27 years of age or older, they are UFAs. Teams may commence contract negotiations with the UFA agent. Players will be looking to sign deals based off of the contract guidelines, and if still unsigned when free agency starts, will test the open market.

Some notes for RFA signings:

All 5 year contracts on "unproven" players are not subject to the guidelines. These players will be paid according to their potential on a case by case basis and the agent will work in tandem with the commissioner to ensure the player is adequately compensated.

ICE TIME will be taken into account for all signings - underperforming players with high potential not playing on the powerplay will not be taking discounts

CONSISTENT players (same or similar production 3 seasons in a row) will not take as sizeable a discount on 1 and 2 year contracts as inconsistent/developing players. These players have "earned" a 5 year contract and won't be cheaper for the sake of it. Expect their salary to fall between the 1-2 year guideline and the 5 year guideline

The contract guidelines are as follows:

 FREE AGENCY:

Spoiler

Teams will have the opportunity to offer for free agents through a Google Form. Here, teams will have their one and only opportunity to pitch an offer to a free agent. Free agents will then pick which offer best suits their needs the most. To make things easier for teams offering, the free agent spreadsheet will describe what type of offer each player is looking for.

Any free agents who remain unsigned will advance to the next wave. In total, there will be 3 waves of free agent signings.

OFFERSHEETS:

Spoiler

If a RFA remains unsigned, they will be open to offersheets.

As of right now, the offersheet compensation is the following:

Spoiler

0.5 to 0.74M - No Compensation

0.75 to 1.24M - 1 perk point

1.25 to 1.99M - 3rd round pick, 1 perk point

4 to 5.49M - 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, 2 perk points

5.5 to 6.49M - 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, 3 perk points

6.5M to 8M - 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, 3rd round pick, 3 perk points

- Perk points will transfer from the team offersheeting to the team offersheeted (i.e. a team may end up with 4 perk points while another ends up at 6).

- Picks must be in the following year, however they do not need to be the team's original picks

BUYOUTS:

Spoiler

As of Season 1, we will not include any buyouts. This may change in the future.

PLAYER GROWTH:

Spoiler

Players generally grow and receive attribute boosts during the offseason. At this time, players future potentials may change as well (very frequent in younger players). Development in EHM is key if you want to make the most out of your players!

 PERKS:

Spoiler

Each team will be given 5 perk points per year to use to their advantage. You may use the same perk more than once in the same year should you have the points available. Teams may pick from the following:

  • Contract Re-Negotiation - Teams may choose 1 player to have their contract re-negotiated, based off of the contract guidelines (5 points)
  • Draft Scouts - Teams may choose 5 prospects to receive a scouting report on for the entry draft (2 points)
  • Scouting Reports - Teams may choose 5 players to receive a scouting report on (can be players on your team or other teams). (2 points)
  • 10% Discount - Teams may choose 1 player to apply a 10% discount to in contract negotiations (does not apply to players already under contact) (2 points)
  • 5% Discount - Teams may choose 1 player to apply a 5% discount to in contract negotiations (does not apply to players already under contract) (1 point)
  • Depth Chart - Teams may use this perk to receive an updated screenshot of their current organizational depth chart, according to EHM (1 point)
  • Best Lines - Team may use this perk to receive a screenshot of their even strength "best lines" or may choose to receive Nail's version of the best lines (1 point)
  • Position Addition - Teams may add another position to their players, the position will be added on as a secondary position (1 point)

Please note all of the above rules are just very brief descriptions. If you have any questions at all about anything, do not hesitate to reach out in the thread, or to Nail via PM or Discord!
