[Game] Your All-Time Canucks Roster (as of this season)

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

With this pause in play, I think this could be a great time to both look back on glorious eras of old and look forward to future glory days, and see what would be some of the all-time teams that could be created had they all been in the same era.  We've had great eras with the West Coast Express, the Twins, the '82, '94 and '11 runs and there's future hope once again with the current era of young guns and Marky.  With that, the challenge is to create 4 lines, 3 D pairs and your goalie tandem (plus a forward and D spare), and if you can, also briefly explain why you chose each for that spot in the lineup.

Ready?  Let's see your lineups!

Smyl - Linden - Bure

Tiger Williams - Sedin - Sedin

Naslund - Ronning - Bertuzzi

Kesler - Petterson - Gradin

(Tony Tanti)

* Tiger Williams is the perfect winger for the Sedins.  35 goals one season and all-time NHL penalty minute leader.  Nobody is getting their face speedbagged with him around.

* Smyl - 88 point season, captained team to finals, retired as Canucks all time scoring leader

* Linden - ditto

* Sedins / Bure / Naslund / Kesler - everyone knows

* Ronning - heart and fire - 85 point season, overtime king

* Tanti - forgotten reliable 80s scoring machine.  Tanti on the power play with the Sedins would have been something else.

* Other HMs - Boudrias / Petri Skriko / Mogilny / Burrows / Patrik Sundstrom / G. Courtnall / G. Adams / B. Pederson

Reinhart - Kearns

Lidster - Babych

Hughes - Jovanovski

(Edler)

* In all cases, puck moving Defenseman with scoring touch.  All had 50+ point seasons as Canucks D-men, except Babych (perhaps the most offensively gifted of all) who was now older but a reliable shutdown D...and also still the only Canucks defenseman to score a hat trick.  Jovo is good protection for Hughes.

* Other HMs - Snepsts / Kevin McCarthy / Edler / Lumme / Ehrhoff / Jeff Brown / Ohlund

Kirk McLean

Richard Brodeur

(Luongo)

* Luongo is 3rd because of propensity for meltdowns.  McLean and Brodeur kept their head on straight during big games.  This is my playoff lineup.

My roster would be very similar, except I think I'd try Bertuzzi with the Sedins and Bure with Petey

I like your team Joe.  Good combination of elite skill, hyper compete, and toughness.

Bertuzzi - Pete - Bure (beastly PF and speedy gritty scorer with wizard Pete, this'll be fun)

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows (for old time's sake, that cycle was something special)

Pearson - Horvat - Kesler (big minute, versatile, north-south, shutdown and match-up line)

Miller - Linden - Hansen (speedy, grinding two-way line that can move up the lineup)

/ Rypien (honorary bench player, always admired his courage; RIP)

Hammer - Juice (perfect balance of stability and breakout ability for an all-round pair with some flair)

Quinn - Jovocop (an exciting, mobile two-way pairing, silky smooth Hughes with Jovo's physicality)
Edler - Ehrhoff (speaks for itself, a highly successful scoring pair which can hold its own)

/ Mitchell

Luongo (loyal through good and bad times, accomplished career, former captain)

Marky (liking what I'm seeing, displays clutch ability, can definitely steal wins)

I'd swap Kearns for Erhoff, and that's the only change I'd make. Anyone else is because of what they did elsewhere, and not as a Canuck (ie Rick Vaive and Cam Neely)

Apologies to those who remember the 80's Canucks, was born in '88, haven't seen many clips of those guys play.

1.a) Sedin - Sedin - Miller: Thought about Burrows for old times sake, but Miller's got more offensive upside to go along with the grittiness and compete.

1.b) Bure - Petey - Mogilny: I don't think this needs an explanation.

2.a) Bertuzzi - Bo - Naslund: The line that'll hit you like a semi, and put the puck in the net before you could take a number.

2.b)Boeser - Kesler(2011) - Linden: 2 players that are always hard on the puck and defensively responsible, with a sharpshooter waiting to bury it..

Higgins

I don't believe in 3rd and 4th lines.

Ohlund - Hughes

Ham-Juice

Edler - Jovo

Ehrhoff

(Salo's on LTIR)

Mclean

Markstrom

Luongo (cuz recrapture)

I was born in 94 and didn't start watching until 98 so this team is reflective of who I have watched over the short tenure.

Daniel-Henrik-Burrows

Naslund-Morrison-Bertuzzi

Pettersson-Kesler-Linden

Brashear-Horvat-S.Kariya

Ohlund-Sopel

Edler-Bieksa
Jovanovski-Salo

Luongo

Markstrom

Chose Brashear because he was probably the most entertaining scrapper IMO this team has ever had.   S.Kariya holds sentiment for me as he was the first asian decent player to play for the team, someone I looked up to and paved a way for myself to be inspired to play the game.  The hype around him was pretty unreal but definitely cheered him on.
