Since you brought up the Manitoba years...part of me wishes we could get some recognition for the Vancouver Canucks when they were in the WHL before NHL expansion let them in. They were a powerhouse in the WHL and PCHL and we had some real legends wear the uniform: Gump Worsley, Andy Bathgate, Johnny Bower. And both Bower and Worsley won the league's version of the Vezina Trophy while playing for Vancouver. It's too bad none of that ever comes up. Or the Vancouver Blazers of the WHA. Look at that goalie. Awesome. And I'll agree with you about Bieksa representing what it is (should be) to be a Canuck. Of the entire roster during the Sedin years, I think he might be the one that would have fit in the best with the 1982 and 1994 teams.
