Vote Doug Lidster

Nominate Garth Butcher

Solid nomination...The "Strangler" was a respected player around the league - and good enough to get some great players for us when he was traded...top mark in the black eye rankings..both giving and receiving..

Doesn't have that letter on his jersey for no reason.

We had to give up a lot of leadership over the years to bring assets back our way...  Lever, Linden...

Vote Lidster.

Nominate Babych.

Tanev and Adams ahead of Babych or even Butcher? Booo.

Instead of spreading out our votes like we have, it’s time to get the forgotten greats on the list, so instead of voting for Sundstrom, I’m also voting for Lidster here.

Same will go for the next few. It’s apparently the only way to out-vote the posting youth lol

Next we need to get in the right nominations, like you all are trying to.

Thanks for the support 189lb enforcers? .... I absolutely agree..  Of the current list only a few wouldn't already be on my all-time list - and a lot of them in the top 20.. I know you have been voting for much deserved Sundstrom - will help you get him in when I can.   Tanev to me is a mid 40's guy.  He didn't make the cut three years ago in THN book - I suppose the extra time has moved him in but not if it means Butcher or Murzyn get bumped out for me at least.  Booo indeed.  I've been trying to vote for the few that have had a chance of getting in that are the most deserving - Boudrais last couple of times even though I feel Lidster has a case to be ahead of him - and that a couple of guys are very close as well - such as Jovo, Ronning and Sundstrom.    Don't mind the Bieksa votes - curiously THN had him right at 23....but behind quite a few of the guys still on the list.   Babych was one of my favorite Linden era defenseman - just a solid second pairing guy with Diduck especially his entire time with us.  Lumme and Murzyn might have been our first pairing but throwing out Babych and Diduck against the best in the league was also common place.   He wasn't used like a offensive defenseman anymore - but still to this day is the only Canuck d with a hat-trick.    Probert going flying behind the net when reverse hit by Babych is cemented into my memory banks....was a little like Tim Horton was back in his day - strong enough to crush a guy in a bear hug - and didn't have to fight because nobody wanted to risk their life - and he didn't want to hurt people with his otherwordly strength.   Legs like tree trunks they used to announce - and was so strong he could hold onto two guys one in each hand.    Wonder if Murzyn will get in too...he better.  Heart of a lion...not a good fighter but always dropped them if there was a code violation and willing participant regardless of reputation.  And despite his slow foot speed regularly had one of if not the best plus-minus on the team.    Tanev also is all heart - but he has to wait his turn...Butcher before him too of course.

And that is his happy face....it's either him or Momesso for the best resting bitch face in the history of our team.

Murzyn reminded me of Trevor Linden his last two or three years.  Trevor had once been 3rd fastest guy in the skills competition at the all star game if I remember right.  That kind of speed was gone but Linden still was very effective with smarts, anticipation and positioning.

One of my top five Linden memories is one probably very few people recall.  I think it was his last season, where he got healthy scratched 20something games, but we were down two men in a 5-on-3 penalty kill and Trevor had been the only forward for the first minute and a half or so.  With maybe 30 seconds to go in the two man disadvantage, Trevor skated to the bench, exhausted, and then AV sent him back out to take that last face off and kill the last 30 seconds.  A drained Trevor was still better for the job and smarter than any fresh legs coming off the bench.  The crowd absolutely roared with pride as Trevor skated over to take that faceoff, and it's the only time in my life I've seen an arena cheer the choice of guy to kill part of a penalty.

I'm gonna stop voting for Kearns cause nobody else is. Feel like he's very underrated

Another guy on this list that was nominated a while ago but isn't getting his due respect.  Played for a decade - close to .50 ppg as a defenseman and averaged around 23 minutes a game....two-way great for sure.  Yet Salo beat him out somehow.....FYI he was ranked 22 by THN - one spot ahead of Bieksa - and two away from Edler...who somehow made it all the way to the top ten....this list is a bit scewed towards what have you done for me lately.  Next time I will nominate Aucion just to f#ck with some guys ... who was he again?  Well he was one of our better defenseman that bridged the Linden and WCE era.. and still has the record for goals in a season at 23 - and one year tied the record for PPG by a defenseman ... tying all-time top five great Denis Potvin.  More then Orr, Coffey, Borque....but one less then Sheldon Souray who later beat him.   Just kidding on the nomination...kind of.  Is what he accomplished greater then Tanevs contributions - debatable.  Kearns deserves a spot in the top 20-25  for sure.  He is just another casualty of three or four guys that have already got in that are quite out of whack as far as greatness goes.   And really I cant comment too much given I was more into Star Wars half way through his tenure and what Wayne Gretzky was doing - and how cool Bobby Clarks hair was - or how cool some names were like Pete - Peters..that said the information is available - and he was our original best D - that did not debut in the NHL until 26...yet still played a decade.  Who else on our team has ever done that..

At times both my brother and I questioned why Linden did not get more chances in the top six...he was still better then most late in his career - more reliable and better points per sixty etc while spending most of his time in the defensive zone... was painful at times.  Great memory BTW - do not remember it myself but could see it happening.  Ryan Walter also played out his career on our fourth line - a former Habs Captain ... that ended up as a defensive specialist.  ...  The best part about the end of his career - he came back where he belonged.

Heh, I remember even Trevor got a little testy about the healthy scratches.  He never overtly expressed disapproval in the media but was getting asked about it after eight in a row and just kind of replied...yep, I'm feeling good, ready to go!

I agree entirely about his effectiveness at the end.  The healthy scratches weren't necessary and he was still our #1 gun for shootouts if it came to that.  It's not like Trevor had to crack the 80s Oilers lineup to get in there.

Yeah, I liked Ryan Walter.  Forgot to mention him a few threads ago in my list of guys with great careers that stopped by in Vancouver before the glue factory (e.g. Mel Bridgman, Pit Martin...)

Aucoin lived across the street from me during his days with the Flames. He and Daymond Langkow were next door neighbors until Aucoin got traded again.

Only talked to Aucoin occasionally but seemed to be a pretty good guy.

Lidster was such a great Dman for us when our teams were pretty awful, until Linden came our way.

Crazy how he’s several spots behind Salo. Good Kamloops kid too. (We sure produced a lot of character hockey players, not much lately though). I was cheering for him to die in the 94 Final, but that was bizness lol

Lidster was a 7th round pick, I think, yet he beat out that J.J. Daigneault disaster we took at 10 OA in 1984, who went on to be only beaten by Silly, Mike Sillinger, as the most traded NHLer ever.

Quinn Hughes didn’t do to us fans what J.J. Daigneault did, or Nedved. Man we sure got shafted a lot until EP came along.

Welcome to the list, Lidster.

This was the only moment of Rangers success that made me even slightly happy in 1994.

I posted it earlier so you've probably seen it, but maybe someone else missed it.

Kirk's like...what the hell guys?

Mel Bridgman...involved in some of the best line brawls in the history of the game.  Google Jan 6 1979...enjoy Bridgman beating on Hart - who high sticked Bridgman for stitches a week or so earlier.  PHI paid a high price to get Bridgman and he was not a bust - earning the C ( Clark became an assistant coach while still playing and choose him as his successor)for five years and scoring at a .80 or so a a power forward and PHI had their best regular season under him and went all the way to the final before getting ousted by the budding dynasty that also ousted us...(and stuck behind Clark for a lot of his career as a center, did not break out offensively until he finally got some PP after leaving PHI)   Also had three consecutive fights few months later in his career in another line brawl..against the same guy....(Jensen vs Bridgman all 3 rounds) went on for ten minutes or so - anyone who thinks Probert and McSorely who went at it for over two minutes ( was a great fight though) have the record for this sort of thing forgot about some of the things that went on before that....ended up the C for some terrible NJ teams...yeah we had some aging greats have a turn with us near the end and he is one of them.
