Introducing: Werewolf

Yes, you have played Mafia. But now it is time to play the-exact-same-thing-but-with-a-different-name – Werewolf.

Story:

The village has been cursed with Lycanthropy. The Goddess Ceres was displeased with the lack of sacrifices from this village and placed a curse on a crop of potatoes, causing the consumers to become Werewolves. With many afflicted by the curse, the Werewolves formed a pack and began attacking the defenseless town every full-moon.

The village was placed on lockdown and the villagers began hanging the suspected Werewolves one by one.

Unfortunately, it was a full moon every night that week...

Game map:

Spoiler

Round 1

Lynch: Alain Vilgeault - Villager

Kill: Blue Jay - Villager

Round 2

Lynch: lucklager - Werewolf

Kill: Kurisu - Villager

Round 3

Lynch: Zfetch - Werewolf

Kill: naslund.is.king - Villager

The setup:

3x Werewolves

2x Village Jack of All Trade (9x Doctor, 9x Motion Detector, 9x Tracker)

Spoiler

Doctor: Protects the target from kills on that night only (cannot self-protect)

Tracker: Learns who the target visited, but not what actions they did

Motion Detector: Detects motion involving the target on that night (finds motion if the target visited someone or was visited, with no distinction between the two)

10x Villagers

Relevant Mechanics:

  • DAYS will be 36 hours, and NIGHTS will be 12 hours (one full round will last 48 hours). The game will start with the Day; and Days will go from roughly 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM on the following day (36 hours later). The Night will then run until 10:00 AM the next morning, when the subsequent Day will start. All times are in PST. There will be NO POSTING during the Night phase - only the Werewolves can communicate during Night.
  • Majority lynch is enabled in LYLO or MYLO (Lynch-or-Lose & Mislynch-and-lose, respectively). This means that the lynch takes place as soon as a Majority of votes has been reached.
  • Tied votes will result in a player being lynched at random from among the tied players.
  • No Lynching is allowed. Vote for No Lynch to forgo a lynch that Day.
  • No private messaging, or any outside communication regarding this game (unless you are Mafia/Werewolf).
  • Mafia/Werewolf factional kills are assigned to one Werewolf. In this setup, that means they display as an action to the Tracker and the Motion Detector actions.
  • The Werewolf kill is mandatory. If no kill is submitted it will be randomized.
  • The JOAT must cycle through ALL three actions before they can reuse any of them. However, the order does not need to be the same for each cycle.
  • The JOAT can only use ONE action per Night.
  • Everyone will need to vote in the thread AND in the Poll. The in-thread votes are what actually count, but the Poll is for quality of life. You can change your vote as many times as you like. There is no "locking" votes in this game. I advise that you set your vote to 'Idle' when you aren't voting.
  •  You must now sign-in anonymously until you are killed off.

Rules:

Spoiler

1) Rounds end at a specified time, usually during late evening PST; the exact time will vary depending on the GM. The GM will update as quickly as possible; please be patient if there is a delay.

2) Once you've been killed off, please do not interfere with the game. Don't post during in-game discussions or loan your opinion to players, not even privately. The only comments you make should be completely off-topic and in no danger of influencing the game in any manner. Do not even up-vote posts relating to the game. Please also stay honest when conducting private correspondence.

3) Please stay active. If you sign up, that means you want to play. If you do not vote at least once every two rounds, you will be killed off for inactivity.

4) Screenshots of any communication (especially with the GM) are not allowed. It is also against the rules to copy/paste any message from the GM. Do not invite the GM into any private conversations, unless to prove rule-breaking. Faked screenshots/messages are subject to this rule as well, at the discretion of the GM.

5) If you are lynched, you are allowed "last words." You can say whatever you like at this time. However, anyone who is killed by any other means does not get last words.

6) Please avoid editing your posts, in order to prevent changing or removing information in old posts. Some GMs may grant leeway if the edit is made within the first 10 minutes after posting; after 10 minutes, there may be punishment. Other GMs allow zero editing.

7) Do not bring outside factors into the game. Making bets, offering real-life rewards, or claiming to ban yourself from future games to prove your innocence will not be tolerated. You're all clever enough to come up with better defenses than that.

8) Do not violate the spirit of the game. Exploiting loopholes or doing anything against the spirit of the game without actually breaking a rule is considered "Angleshooting" and will not be tolerated. The exact interpretation of this rule will be at the discretion of the GM. An example of Angleshooting is if players were trying to determine someone's alignment by asking about the contents of their role PM.

9) All rules are subject to staying within the "spirit of the rules" as well. Just because there may be a loophole in the rule's wording does not mean the rule can be averted. The GM of the game will have final say on what constitutes rule breakage.

10) The word of the GM is final. If you disagree with a decision, feel free to say so (privately), but understand that the ongoing game will likely not be altered. And please remain civil if you do have a complaint – remember that the GMs are devoting their own time to running this game for you.

11) Remember, this is just a game! If things start getting heated or personal between players, take a breath and a step back. Just have fun, and don't take it too hard if you get duped during the game!

Sample Role PMs

Werewolf

Spoiler

You are a Werewolf. You win when the Village can no longer control the lynch.

As a Werewolf, you have access to the Factional Night Kill Night Action. Players targeted with this action will die at the end of the Night unless protected. Submit your Night Action each night in the Werewolf PM.

If no Werewolf submits an action, a player will be picked at random from the living non-Werewolf players.

JOAT

Spoiler

Magic-in-Ancient-Greece.jpg

You are the Village Jack-of-All-Tades. You win when all threats to the Village have been eliminated.

You have access to three Night actions:

Doctor x 9

The Doctor action will protect your target from any kills. This action can be tracked or detected. You cannot self protect.

Tracker x 9

The Tracking action will inform you who your target used a Night action on that night, if anyone. You will not learn what type of Night action was used.

Example Tracker result: Ceres visited 112 last night.

Motion Detector x 9

The Motion Detector action will inform you if your target visits or was visited by anyone other player. If they didn't use any Night action and no Night actions were used on them, no motion will be detected. You will not learn what type of Night actions was used if motion is detected.

Example Motion Detector result: Motion was detected on Ceres last night.

Submit your Night actions in this PM. You can change your target as many times as you like, and the last action will be used. Please bold your selections.

You can choose to forgo submitting an action.

Please note: you must cycle through ALL three actions before you can reuse any of them. However, the order does not need to be the same for each cycle.

You can only use ONE action per Night.

If you have any questions, please ask in here.

^I didn't realize we were using actual Days and Nightfalls for the days and nights :P

In case the Day and Night thing is confusing, here's an example:

Day 1 starts and lasts from Wednesday morning until Thursday night at 10 PM. At the end if the Day (EoD), the Lynch takes place and I reveal that player's role.

Then Night starts - no one can post during this time. During the Night the specials and Werewolves will submit their actions. Night will last until 10 AM Friday morning. At that time, I will reveal the Nightfall report and Day 2 will commence.

If there's an appetite for it, I'm fine allowing majority lynches once we're past round 3 to speed things up. Majority lynches meaning that the lynch takes place as soon as a majority of votes is reached on a player. e.g. 7 players remaining and 4 are voting for player x.

anon game?

sweet.

I just mean you should be selecting the anonymous sign-in option, so no one can view your activity.

It would be cool to play a truly anon game, but I don't think we could do it here.

It looks like we can now edit the Poll options in an existing thread. I don't remember being able to do this last time I hosted.

I think I'll setup poll each round, where people can place their votes (in addition to voting in the thread). It should let you change it as many times as you want. It will be so much easier to track and tally the votes in the early rounds this way.

So each JOAT gets 27 actions? in a 15 player game?

And if the werewolf kills are assigned then does that mean the kill doesn't go through if the kill submitter is lynched?
