Van - Detroit (proposal)

Recommended Posts

Ok, I put this out there in a HF Boards thread and thought I would throw it out here too!

Loui Eriksson (2 X 6 Million) for Justin Abdelkader (3 X 4.25 Million per)

Abdelkader's buyout is...…..1yr - 1,805,000. 2nd yr - 2.305,000, 3rd yr - 2,305,000. 4th/5th/6th yrs - 1,055,000

Detroit is loosing a lot of dead cap this year.....somewhere around 20 Million, and could probably use Loui's cap, while they are on the bottom.

We might have to throw something extra Detroit's way, but I don't think it would be much. Maybe Josh Leivo?

It would free up almost 4 million per for the first 3 years...…...a million bucks for the next 3, after that (I think we could afford that)

Any thoughts?

you really think

loui would permit a trade to detroit

i think he might just exclude most of the bottom teams in his 15 team no trade list

i'd bet detroit might be very near the top of his no go list

He'd probably prefer it to Utica.

I like the proposal a lot.  Hoping something like this can help us keep our big 3 UFAs.

well there were strong forecasts by many on here

that he would be there this past season

did not happen

Team is a lot better and Green benched him a lot more.  I don't see how you justify making room next year.

I wonder if the further disincentive would be the fact that he's been with Bo and a resurgent Tanner this past year.

As much as the narrative is among fans that he's on that line strictly for defensive purposes while Boeser's out/ he's there to potentially seek to recoup value and is the anchor, he's still been on the 2nd line after all.  Highly doubt he'd get on the top line with Bertuzzi - Larkin - Mantha, and so he's probably fighting for scraps in terms of available line-mates.  In a dump of a roster like that he might just continue to fizzle out, while at least in Vancouver he has a potential to end up with a decent line-mate (even any of Ferland/ Roussel/ Leivo could help turn him into a depth option).

I honestly do not think he would want to go to Utica for any reason, lol

In Detroit he would not have CDC on him...….There is incentive!!   LOL

I honestly think he knows how we think of him...he here's the Boo's

there will be a lot of players for Detroit to choose from with the  cap not going up , they aren't going to waste money on loui  ,

Detroit may need cap, and if they do, Luoi's contract will provide a nice tidy sum, in exchange for Abdelkader

Eriksson > Abelkader and that is saying something! LOL

That is not to say they will not go out and sign some guys, but not at the deal I am offering

You should read the HF Boards talking about Abdelkader……….it pretty much goes step for step with Eriksson's

Yes and if you remember, when everyone was healthy, where was Loui sitting? I know a few NHL players...….they do not like sitting!

Utica would be better for us, his contract would be completely off the books in 2 years, and after savings, he'd be on the books for about 4.9 compared to 4.25 for 3.

We're better off just keeping him and seeing if we can "encourage" him into early retirement by sending him to Utica.

Proposal was to buy out Abdelkader though.

Hmm medium size fish in a garbage pond (at "best" he plays with Fabbri/ Filppula/ Gagner who can each produce some fluff stats, at worst he's stuck with a fellow dud in Nielsen from the same year and unable to claw his way back into a respectable role), or a defensive specialist of sorts who could at least pad stats with EN goals, or have respectable line-mates down the lineup?  I'm not saying it's much better but (unless they threaten him with Utica) I don't see how it's better for him in Detroit than here.  Either way he's stuck behind depth but he's playing behind crap there.
